Self checkout (1 Viewer)

I don't mind the idiots in the self checkout.  Makes my constant thumb over the barcode mistake seem more credible.

I like the self check out system, the problem is it really doesn't work well with a cart full of stuff.  More than 3 bags and it's a #### show.

Maybe I didn't understand what you were asking but at my store you put the basket with all your stuff down on one side. It takes the weight, then as you pick something up it makes sure you put it on the bag side. If the weight doesn't match it stops the whole process and flags the main attendant person. I assume it's so you don't steal / not scan things.

I don't mind the self serve thing if I have just a few things and not much produce. It seems to get hung up about fairly often for some reason or another when I use it which is semi-annoying.
What store is this that you have to put everything on a scale first?

Pretty much every grocery store where I live that has this self checkout thing. You put the stuff down on one side and it weighs it, then as you scan it makes sure that item gets placed on the other side or it stops working.

Pretty much this.  A full cart wouldn't be too bad either if they gave you more space to put your stuff.

The ones here already know what an item weighs. You scan it and put it on the scale.

I can see why you wouldn't like self checkout if you had to weigh it first.
I'm just an idiot. The mysteries of the grocery store checkout lane

I just assumed there was a scale under the things you placed the bags on, after rereading and my coffee kicked in this makes more sense  :bag:

Hate using anything but self checkout. The lines is shorter and I can be faster by myself than most of the crappy cashiers anyway... at least for the grocery store!!

You don't have to put the stuff down first, you can leave it in your cart.

I mistakenly thought it weighed the whole thing at that point including the basket or whatever. Then as you picked something up and scanned it it would make sure the same weight was put down on the other side, instead of knowing the weight of the scanned item which makes a lot more sense.

Good thing I'm not designing these things - would have been chaos at the selfcheck line

WTF?

I use self-checkout so frequently at this one store that I know the five-digit code to grant approval for liquor purchases. There is usually one employee who stands at the head of the bank of registers, and they have to come over and punch the code in. I have seen them do it so many times, that I memorized the sequence.

Am I the only one who uses those scanners that you take around with you?  You scan it, throw it in the bag, then just scan your scanner at checkout and pay.

20% to the bag boy is pretty standard.  I'll go 25% if he doesn't break the eggs.
i can honestly say I've not seen a single person, myself included, tip someone for simply bagging groceries in my life. Back in the day when they took it out to your car and loaded it in the car my parents would tip but never ever for doing nothing more than bagging. And a lot of people don't even carry cash anyway.  I call BS.
