I give 15% to the employee in charge of the self checkout area, 20% if they have to check my ID or key in my produce for me.20% to the bag boy is pretty standard. I'll go 25% if he doesn't break the eggs.

FBGs tip everyone, guy.Tip who?? You people really tip cashiers at grocery stores???
Is this schtick????20% to the bag boy is pretty standard. I'll go 25% if he doesn't break the eggs.
What store is this that you have to put everything on a scale first?Maybe I didn't understand what you were asking but at my store you put the basket with all your stuff down on one side. It takes the weight, then as you pick something up it makes sure you put it on the bag side. If the weight doesn't match it stops the whole process and flags the main attendant person. I assume it's so you don't steal / not scan things.
I don't mind the self serve thing if I have just a few things and not much produce. It seems to get hung up about fairly often for some reason or another when I use it which is semi-annoying.
Oh bull####I give 15% to the employee in charge of the self checkout area, 20% if they have to check my ID or key in my produce for me.
Pretty much every grocery store where I live that has this self checkout thing. You put the stuff down on one side and it weighs it, then as you scan it makes sure that item gets placed on the other side or it stops working. What store is this that you have to put everything on a scale first?
Pretty much this. A full cart wouldn't be too bad either if they gave you more space to put your stuff.I like the self check out system, the problem is it really doesn't work well with a cart full of stuff. More than 3 bags and it's a #### show.
I'm just an idiot. The mysteries of the grocery store checkout lanecstu said:The ones here already know what an item weighs. You scan it and put it on the scale.
I can see why you wouldn't like self checkout if you had to weigh it first.
You don't have to put the stuff down first, you can leave it in your cart.Pretty much every grocery store where I live that has this self checkout thing. You put the stuff down on one side and it weighs it, then as you scan it makes sure that item gets placed on the other side or it stops working.
I mistakenly thought it weighed the whole thing at that point including the basket or whatever. Then as you picked something up and scanned it it would make sure the same weight was put down on the other side, instead of knowing the weight of the scanned item which makes a lot more sense. You don't have to put the stuff down first, you can leave it in your cart.
WTF?I mistakenly thought it weighed the whole thing at that point including the basket or whatever. Then as you picked something up and scanned it it would make sure the same weight was put down on the other side, instead of knowing the weight of the scanned item which makes a lot more sense.
Good thing I'm not designing these things - would have been chaos at the selfcheck line![]()
At grocery store I use they only have self checkout for 15 or less items in a basket so I assumed it weighed it before and after.WTF?
Am I the only one who uses those scanners that you take around with you?

They don't offer that here. What if you change your mind and don't want to buy an item - can you rescan as a "drop"?Am I the only one who uses those scanners that you take around with you? You scan it, throw it in the bag, then just scan your scanner at checkout and pay.

Makes the regular lines shorter.Apparently places let you scan an entire grocery cart I gather from this thread? F that.
It would be just my luck to get arrested for stealing vegetables that are exactly the same as the ones I paid for.Self-checkout is awesome. How else can you get organic vegetables for the price of regular vegetables?
Similar to how we need an "unlike" button here, the scanners have an "unscan" button (ok it really says remove). They don't offer that here. What if you change your mind and don't want to buy an item - can you rescan as a "drop"?
I love all movies scifi and I could never get into that one. Weird.
When we unlike something though, does it still count towards our daily limit?Similar to how we need an "unlike" button here, the scanners have an "unscan" button (ok it really says remove).
yes/noWhen we unlike something though, does it still count towards our daily limit?
i can honestly say I've not seen a single person, myself included, tip someone for simply bagging groceries in my life. Back in the day when they took it out to your car and loaded it in the car my parents would tip but never ever for doing nothing more than bagging. And a lot of people don't even carry cash anyway.
