Seth Roberts or Cordarrelle Patterson? (1 Viewer)

I must admit, I'm not a big follower of Oakland. Okay, not a follower at all. But suddenly these two guys are the starting receivers for a week.

Can somebody who knows these guys give us all a clue on who might be the better one week savior?

LOL, but they are playing the Giants :)

Dodds says Carr will get 253 passing yards. Somebody has to catch the damn ball.

Ahh, I was waiting for the Forum police to show up. You are wrong, Mr. The Frankman.

This is a discussion on the relative merits of 2 players that has general interest to all. Nobody asked who do I start. Most people don't have either of these on their rosters but they are suddenly relevant.

Years ago this Forum actually had great discussions with folks who knew a lot about football talking about the skill sets and strengths and weaknesses of players and the matchups they were facing. Not anymore. Its a pity that people like you have ruined what was once a great source of insight.

Roberts is a pain in the neck that never catches the ball until it's a big first down or a big touchdown. He's a nobody until dang it, he did it to us again! There's some high confidence in him. He's usually 5 targets 4 catches...pretty solid catch percentage.

"Big play potential" would be Cordarelle, but I think Roberts will be safer. As long as Carr trusts the guy, that's good enough for me

The correct answer is Jared Cook.
He will have at least 115 of Carr’s ~285 PaYd. I’d bet my dog on it*.

*narrator - no, he wouldn’t.

As for the question at paw, er, hand; it’s a coin flip with the nod to Roberts due to experience & relationship with Carr. He’s been in the offense far more than Patterson.  PPR I think he’s a sleeper this week.

That said Patterson has home run ability and the Raiders like to take deep shots. But he’s not as polished a route runner and hasn’t had a lot of time catching balls from Carr. Safer floor is Roberts IMO.

Giants secondary is legit, but I don’t know what to expect effort-wise after Eli’s benching. What a clusterbleep.

Whoa - I shoulda read your post before posting. You hit on a couple of my key points. So either we’re both on point or we’re both way off.

Roberts will unquestionably have more targets being the de facto WR1. No news on Cooper, but have to think he sits after watching that hit.

So agree, he's a better candidate this week between the two.

In my league we get return yards, so Patterson's points there, as well as the 1-2 jet sweeps/reverses he gets, puts him closer if not above Roberts any given week. Who knows, maybe they use Patterson more this week to confuse an already discombobulated team. But Roberts has the safer floor, esp. in PPR.

I stand by my feeling that it's Cook who will be the biggest beneficiary of Coop/Crabs being out.

Jenkins and Rodgers-Cromartie can ball in the secondary, especially against the middling WR talent we're rolling out this week.

Despite finally managing to negate Vernon Davis last week, the Jints have also been horrifically shredded by that position all year, ranking dead last in TE points against.

I think the Raiders move the chains with short passes and pound Lynch for clock control.

17-10 Raiders

See, I think this is a common fantasy fallacy. Yes, someone has to catch it (though there's also Cook, Horton, Richard, Washington ...) The question is, is there anything you can learn between now and Sunday that will lead to you having confidence as to which of them it will be?

So yeah, I was mostly joking, but the point I was making is that there's a high degree of uncertainty with a low-ceiling reward if you get it right.

I don't know everyone's options, so I can't say unequivocally that nobody should be starting a Raiders WR. I just know that for me, the bar would have to be set really low before I would consider it. I'm a Crabtree owner, and I considered it for about three seconds before deciding I would go with Doyle, Engram and Dez (none of whom I'm especially excited about) over any Raiders option.
