Setting the Record Straight on Johnny Manziel (1 Viewer)

I can't get past his footwork/mechanics and arm strength. I just see Doug Flutie.
Flutie only completed 53% of his passes in college, Manziel completed 69%.

However flawed his mechanics are, he's able to throw the ball accurately.
Very Poor comparison, completely different offenses and eras.
Even judging them by how they performed vs. their peers, Manziel did much better.

Manziel: 2012 - #9 in pass completion percentage (68%)

2013 - #4 in pass completion percentage (69.9%)

Flutie: 1983 - Not ranked in top 20 (51.3 %)

1984 - #17 in pass completion percentage (58.2%)*

*12 QB's completed over 60% of their passes

Manziel is very elusive.

but he doesn't come close to Vick's first step acceleration.
no disagreement here. but vick doesnt have manziel's instincts to sense pressure
Manziel seems to sense pressure even when there is no pressure. He'll bail out of a clean pocket with receivers wide open.

mike krupka of dawgs by nature charted Manziel and only had him leaving a clean pocket on 20% of his scrambles. It is a bad habit, but far from one that he relies on primarily to move the offense.

Wow, there is very little in his grading that I agree with seems like a flush piece to me.

he told me that he didn't really like manziel when he started watching him to write the piece

Most of the reviews now seem like an exercise in confirmation bias. Good and bad.
Just like Manziel. I don't believe anyone who claims to know what he'll be in the NFL. He does enough things well that he could be very successful but also does things that could be a :tfp:
