We're one episode away from the season 2 finale and then will spend multiple years talking about the theories.

Few shows or pieces of visual media have approached the levels we are at now. We're in rare air here.

Please enjoy each episode equally.

Will we be allowed to post spoilers in here or will we have to wait a few years for everyone to catch up?

Seems like this show comes out weekly so one checking the thread should be up to date.

Agreed. If you don't want spoilers, stay out of the thread.

Anyway, this is an awesome show, with top notch acting all-around, even from Adam Scott, of whom I previously didn't think much.

The S2 finale next week should be a doozy.

Yes, I thought this last one was pretty good after that dank journey into Mrs. Selvig's past.

I've read some articles that reference the tie ins to Twilight Zone episodes. In the last Severence episode "The After Hours", Cobel's exchange with the security guard where they talk about Miss Marsha White, the ninth floor and the golden thimble were all easter eggs that coincide with a Twilight Zone episode called "The After Hours".

Possible spoilers here:

I thought the implication in the article about the "outsiders" is interesting.

Can't wait for the season finale!

There does seem to be a TZ vibe, right down to the spooky theme music.

That was a great episode. I need to watch it again for sure but it did a great job of answering some questions I had.

Spoilers

Awesome finale. That decision at the end felt like the end of a big football game lol.

Can’t believe Drummond didn’t take the bolt gun when Mark did he elevator transition thing. He would’ve been out of it for a few seconds and Drummond would know that.

Drummond wasn't exactly at the top of his game at that moment. I also thought it raised a very interesting legal/moral dilemma: If he was shot literally in the middle of Mark's transition, who actually committed the murder?

I thought the video-recorder scene at the beginning and the final scene with Mark S's decision were both amazing. I really felt for Gemma, who had just escaped years of literal torture, only to be forced to watch her husband choose another woman over her

That finale was really good. Like really really good

I still think the show is quite boring overall though , despite being beautiful shot, acted and scored. It’s feels more like an art project than a tv series to me

I agree with your last statement, but for me that takes away from how I feel about the finale.

We really didn’t learn anything of substance. We know nothing about the larger world, what Lumon is actually doing, why Mark specifically was so important, why Irv knew the hallway was important or who Irv was calling from the pay phone (Irv’s storyline in general was not resolved at all), etc. I know I’m in the minority based on what I’m seeing here and elsewhere and that’s fine, I still enjoy the show, I just worry it’s going to get worse from here as they try to cobble stuff together. In the spirit of the Twilight Zone an ambiguous ending with unanswered questions would be perfect for this story.

This is for sure a nitpick but they have an entire depart ent of severed workers just to be in a marching band? I understand it’s just an excuse to get Milchick dancing and in the moment I loved the scene but I think that’s where the show lost me. The lore has turned into a weakness where I previously thought it was a strength.

what Lumon is actually doing, why Mark specifically was so important
It is interesting how everything at Lumon seems to revolve around this single team leader, even in the outside world. It's almost as if this whole thing is his own feverish dream.

Yeah, kinda wish they had gone a LITTLE further explaining what it was all for. Obviously they need something to delve into next season and we're all free to speculate, but I wanted more answers now.

Loved how we basically got a repeat of brienne of tarth vs the hound

Drummond needed to go if only because of that awful haircut.

In any event, I thought the finale was great. The marching band thing was a bit much, but that scene where innie and outie Mark were conversing was top notch IMO.

Never thought much of Adam Scott before this show, but he’s knocked it out of the park. And Trammell Tillman as Seth needs to get serious Emmy consideration.

It's a love story and an exploration of how corporate America treats its employees.
The first time I watched it, I immediately thought it was kind of a play on work life balance in Corporate America in trying to balance two sides of your life.
Much like "Lost" (which this show was clearly inspired by, down to using "the numbers" as part of the Lumon employees locker numbers), I think it's a mistake to think that the point of the show is to get answers to all our questions. It's the journey, not the destination.

And while I agree that the commentary on work culture and corporate influences on our lives was part of the original premise of the show, this season delved much more into broader questions of identity, as the video conversation between Innie and Outie Marks so skillfully demonstrated.

Speaking of which, something I was thinking about today: What is the significance of Helly rebelling so thoroughly against everything Helena stands for? Is it a peak into Helena's subconscious discomfort with her life? It's especially interesting because you would intuitively expect the opposite to be true: Most people live their work lives suppressing their innermost thoughts and impulses. Yet Helly meets Jaime Egan and (correctly) calls him out for being a weirdo who deserves to burn in hell. Similarly, Dylan's innie is described (by his own outie!) as a "bad-a##" who is more sexually appealing to his wife because he's unburdened by life experiences.

I suspect the show is building toward the conclusion that, as evil as Lumon may be, they actually did these characters a favor by allowing them to sever. And that holds all kinds of confusing implications.

My other prediction for S3 is that the tensions between innies and outies will escalate into full-on warfare. We already know how much Helena hates Helly (and now that Cold Harbor is completed and there's no need to placate Mark, she will surely try to kill her off for good). Meanwhile, Mark Scout has now been betrayed by Mark S, who prevented him from being with his wife and basically committed psychological torture on her.

I have no idea how all of this will play out but I'm looking forward to seeing how they manage it

He's great. Quickly moving up the rankings as a great all time villains (is he one?)
It’s feels more like an art project than a tv series to me
This is a great comment in that I know exactly what you mean yet keep coming back to the meaning of this comment. Aren't most great TV shows art projects? Certainly a TV show is better when it is more like an art project than a business venture.

Stiller reminds me of how Gilligan ran Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. It's designed meticulously yet the actors feel like they have a lot of freedom and deliver great performances.

We also didn't know who Jon Snow was until 6 seasons into Game of Thrones.

Also "Legion" which seemed to be a bit underrated or at least underwatched for how good it was.

How’d that one turn out?

I get your point. I don’t think this show is telling a cogent story right now. Still really good though. I’m interested to see what they figure out moving forward.

A “devour feculence” response could get oneself banned.

there are a lot of victims here but i would say the biggest is gemma she was abducted as far as we know after a car accident and subjected to awful experiments and was going to be killed or sacraficed or whatever at the end of the experiments and then was rescued by mark scout only to be basically betrayed by mark s so in my mind that is who i am rooting for her and mark scout in fact you can make an argument that the only reason mark s exists is as a result of the torture that gemma was put through so yes i feel for him and his love for helly e but none of that happens but for what happened to gemma take that to the team gemma bank bromigos

Learned fairly recently that the actress who plays Gemma (Dichen Lachlan) is married to the guy who played Zava (Maximilian Osinski) in Ted Lasso.

Was she abducted? I thought it seemed like she was unhappy and maybe staged her own death even though the cops showed up at the house. They were having problems after the baby lost so part of me thinks she volunteered for it.

Enjoyed the season a lot. I think a lot of what makes the show great is that the premise itself is so unique and terrifying. Occasionally it feels too purposefully strange (marching band, goat herders) but overall so good….

Mill chick cobell Irving and Burt were/are the best parts of the show. It’s pretty meh for me. But I wanted to see what the hype was all about

Eta: and dylan. He is most excellent

Dylan's choice of cuss words in particular!

"dry ****s" LOL
The scenes with outie Dylan and his wife were heartbreaking - him realizing how his outie self didn’t measure up to his innie self.
