Shark Pool Board Mock Draft - Version 1 (2 Viewers)

Alright, heading to Disney on friggin Ice....will be gone til mid afternoon. Sending a revised list to that tall drink of water Dufresne

At the senior bowl, Personnel consultant Phil Savage went right to DE Melvin Ingram after todays South practice. Savage also chatted up Courtney Upshaw and then spent a while with Quinton Coples. In 3 days he spoke with:

DE Cam Johnson Virginia

DE Jake Bequette Arkansas

DE Vinny Curry Marshall

DE Quinton Coples UNC

LB Courtney Upshaw Alabama (would play DE in our system)

DE Melvin Ingram South Carolina

Further, I think this Bleacher Report article (yes, I know) is kind of interesting.

So I think it's safe to say that they're looking for a DE.

So, therefore the Eagles select

2.14 - Vinny Curry, DE - Marshall

Sad news for my man Brandon Graham :sadbanana:

I think this would be a good spot for David Wilson.
Very different runner than Shonn Greene and isn't LT walking after year? Could be a good fit. I will be very surprised on draft day if Doug Martin is taken below anyone not named Trent.

Almost went with another WR, but I'll go with David Wilson.

More offensive help for Mark Sanchez. Shonn Greene has been a disappointment thus far, while LaDainian Tomlinson isn't expected back with the team next year. If Tomlinson leaves, the Jets will need a runner to complement Greene.

Pass Rush, Pass Rush, Pass Rush

Whomever you talk to or read, this is widely acknowledged as the biggest failure on the Packers this year. The DLine was completely unable to get a decent rush, forcing the Packers to either blitz or pray the coverage holds.

At this point you could go DE, DT or OLB and you would improve the team. I see Courtney Upshaw, Whitney Mercilus, Brandon Jenkins, Nick Perry and Andre Brown as all legitimate choices here, and if they were all still available I would not be surprised if TT listened to offers to trade down a couple of picks.

However, for our purposes they are not trading, so that leaves the Packers taking……………………

The Green Bay Packers, with the 28th pick of the 2012 draft, select………

Courtney Upshaw, LB, Alabama!

Upshaw is a versatile player, having done 5, 3 and even 2 point technique at Bama. Excellent pass rusher, even stronger on the run, and still is capable dropping into coverage. Being paired with Clay Mathews on the other side will free up Clay from his double and even triple teams. Expect the Packers, with this pick, to be able to at least double their sack total from 2011.
 This pick just keeps getting better. He's been unstoppable at the Senior Bowl Practices and I just read on Rotoworld a Steelers scout compared him to Lamarr Woodley.

Wes Bunting typed this clip from the South practice yesterday.

On the D-line, Alabama DE Courtney Upshaw again used his combination of strength and leverage to overwhelm on contact as a pass rusher. However, he also did an impressive job turning speed into power on his outside speed rush, dropping his pad level and running his legs through the corner. He’s been a bear to block all week and looks like one of the safer prospects in this year’s draft

2.16 - Brandon Boykin, CB - Georgia

Skinny, but tallish and long arms. Athletic, tough, football-intelligent, good tackler, willing special teamer.

Tried to send a PM to jacobo_moses but got the following:

He is flat out going to shoot up the draft boards. If he's projected as a DE I'd call him the DE1 in this draft. Coples is super talented but people feel that he played his senior year at UNC to not get hurt and project his draft stock. It really makes you wonder what he will do after his payday.

First off, this team basically has no current offensive/defensive scheme or the coaches in place to make those decisions -- so I'm not going to pick a 3-4 DE or a good zone-blocking OT. Secondly, this team is going to do a complete over haul, meaning any position of need can get filled. I'm not a talent evaluator, but I'm going to go with a player I think will be valuable regardless of scheme...

2.02 -- Harrison Smith, Notre Dame.
I like it. I read somewhere that some teams have a 1st round grade on him, other sites have him ranked 90th. Going into the off-season minimum starters they need are: SS, CB, OG/OT (depending on where they play Ijalana), WR (assuming they don't keep both Wayne and Garcon), and probably DE. Any word on whether Pagano will bring a 3-4 DEF to Indy? That will change needs as they lack a nose tackle. Hughes would probably play one OLB slot, and Antonio Johnson is the only DT that I think would fit as a 5 technique. I really like the CB Boykin that went to the Pats in this mock.

That's one of the fun things about this. It's been going less than a week and if we run it again as soon as we finish it'll look completely different with coaching and offensive/defensive coordinator changes. The nice thing about the Smith selection is he can play in either scheme. Mayock had some interesting notes from the Senior bowl

Notes: Barron was among the top-rated prospects to decline Senior Bowl invites, but Smith, Iloka, Martin, and Allen are all in Mobile. Per Mayock, some NFL teams have first-round grades on Smith, whom he describes as physical with underrated range.
Most rankings I've seen have Barron...then no one else with a 1st or even a 2nd round grade. This would be huge for Smith and run him up several draft boards.

Chargers 2nd rounder:Zach Brown, OLB, North CarolinaHe's a good weak-side linebacker who was named first team All-ACC last season
Damn.....I thought there may even be a chance he'd drop to the Lions. I considered him in the first. He could end up the SOD.Question though.....is he more suited to a 3/4 or a 4/3? I thought he was considered more of a 4/3 guy.

At 2.19, Eagles select

Brock Osweiler, QB, Arizona State

Eagles aren't resiging Vince Young (at least I hope not). It's almost inevitable Vick will get hurt plus he is 32 and on the downside of his career. Osweiler stock is rising. Also considered Lavonte David.

it also didn't take me 16 hrs to get this one in. Aren't you guys proud of me?

I like it. If you hadn't made this pick I was going to suggest Nick Foles.

Yikes, I forgot about him too. Either one I think would be great value for the Eagles if they slipped to 2.19.
