How old are you?

My last year of being a quinquagenarian. Next year I’ll be a sexagenarian, and I have to tell ya, I’m looking forward to it.

Saw Led Zeppelin for $3.
It was $9.50 for a ticket when I saw them. Still totally worth it.

First concert* was $5 advance, $6 the day of the show. I was making $1.75 /hr but the next year min wage jumped to $2.50. Cigarettes were 35 cents (think they’re $15 now?), a bag of weed was $15 for Mexican, $35 for Colombian gold and Thai stick like $60. I gave up partaking in ‘82 so I can actually still remember this ####. I forget how much gas was but $5 pretty covered the weekend. Bleacher sears were $1 all summer, box seats were the top ticket @ $4 if we could talk Dad into going.

Started a similar thread many years ago after my younger brother told me that season-long fantasy football and message boards were my generation (X), not his (M). ####er was right.
This form of social media is definitely for the more mature crowd.

I'm not crazy old(45) but I'm kinda old tech-wise.....for example, when I've looked at the twitter, the responses confuse me......it's like some strange millennial language I do not understand.  I'm definitely one of those people who gets tied to what I'm used to and I kinda let the new #### pass me by.....gladly.

Absolutely.

Fantasy football is a big tent. Room for lots of different folks.
Ahh, I see. Good move. I hope your return on investment is a good one. I only know Roto does because they cross-post their TikTok on Twitter.

This is coming from a very not savvy guy. I know you're not fooled. Lol a little at that, sad a little at that, generally satisfied to let it all pass me by, as are others.

Great job. Good luck.

Thanks GB. It's probably more boring than anyone wants to hear but I'm interested in expanding our reach. That's been one of the primary changes for 2021.

Our Instagram account is crushing it. The production value and style we're doing there is on par with ESPN https://www.instagram.com/fbgfantasy/?hl=en

We're doing much more on Twitter and Facebook.

And even dipping a bit into TikTok with a much different age demographic.

And I think we have room for all of it.

One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere, like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now, where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones..
I'm picturing Frank Costanza of Seinfeld narrating that story

Since I have to find something to nitpick about, I find the groupings odd.  I'm sure there's something standard or official about 31-40 but 30-39 feels more appropriate.

I got the original polio vaccine. Went to Ebbets Field. Saw Maris hit #49. Saw Led Zeppelin for $3. I think Rutgers tuition was $250 a semester. Saw Ruby shoot Oswald on live TV. Ate the brown acid.

Now get off my lawn punks.
Got the polio vaccine sugar cube. Went to Forbes Field twice a year--once on bat giveaway day and once on baseball giveaway day (with 3 kids in the family, we never had to buy a ball or bat) and got my gloves with my mother's S&H Green Stamps. Watched Maz's HR live. Pitt tuition and room and board were each $500/semester and I could make enough to pay for a semester of each working at my $2/hr. summer job. Snuck a look at newspaper articles reporting Marilyn Monroe's death because they talked about her being nude.  However, I'm glad one guy here is older than me. Thank you for that.

51 yrs old, Canadian, 31st yr in my main league (Keeper, TD heavy, no PPR, no Flex). We're dinosaurs I know but we all play in other re-draft, PPR, etc., leagues and we like the history of league records.

It's Abe from the Simpsons and is an actual speech in the show. Funny stuff if you know the character. He digresses and nobody really listens or cares. He's also really opinionated about the youth, which makes it all the more funny.

In order to reveal my age I will give a riddle for those that peruse the SP's various threads.  I started playing FF when I was 13......

I'd say FF was active for hardcore players in the mid to late 80's and caught on more in the late 90's early 2000's for the average fans. Now it's a full on casual event. So you can be anywhere from 13 to 53 IMO.

Thanks @Truebluey   Do you mean the young people or the old people over react on the reddit forum?

As a long time redditor, the thing to know about reddit is that momentum rules. People want to be on the popular side of issues. So if a topic (Myles Gaskin is finished!) starts gaining upvotes, it will often snowball into a tidal wave.  That lends itself to over-reactions and often funny over-corrections. It feels bipolar.

Also, arguments tend to be brief, so the story of reasoned discourse you get here is lacking there.

I don't know many older people who use reddit, although many surely do. But it's dominated by the crypto crowd.

Have to say I’m floored by this poll … I thought I was on the older end, but I’m in the youngest 12%?

I'll be 60 next April.

The poll results skew about how I thought they would, with the vast majority of folks here either a) born in or b) came of age in the 1980s. You can really tell in the FFA in the various pop culture threads.

   Why would you say that?
I was just echoing LawFitz and it's something I had been noticing. Maybe I'm totally wrong, but it seems fantasy football, season-long, skews towards an older crowd. The DFS and Best Ball leagues where you draft and then auto-pilot it seem to make up the bulk of Twitter, IMO. Maybe that's just who I follow but I generally follow guys that create both types of content, and so far I've seen DFS and Best Ball rule the roost.

I also see it in participation on the board. Tons of people love to draft and then don't manage as seriously as they should. The core of us manage down to the nail-cut quick, of course, but that's us.

I guess I could be totally wrong but it seems the crowd really into season-long FF has dwindled even in the ten-twelve years I've been aware of it and into it.

I usually use my nephew and his friends as a gauge for all things youth. He's seventeen. They all play hybrid sim games like Madden and stuff like that. Raw probability isn't quite in their vocab yet, and I'm not sure it'll ever be.

I'm consistently in the oldest 10% of players in all of my dynasty leagues.  Many of them have people who aren't even legal to drink yet.
Fair enough. Maybe I'm just so used to this board that I'm missing it. Flame away, I've got on my flame-retardant suit.

Ah. I see what you're saying.

I don't see that at all. I think you're letting the board demographics sway you. We are not at all representative of the audience in my experience.

The forum is way older and crotchety by a LONG shot than the masses. I was joking about the guy complaining about the poll options being 30-39 vs 31-40 but not really. That's who we are.

If this board represented the masses, every league would be IDP dynasty going on it's 20th year.

I love this crowd, but it's not representative of the audience at all. And that's great.

These are the wise old veteran power players. Some of the best and most knowledgeable players around. But wildly unrepresentative of the mass audience of fantasy football players.

Oh, I knew you were kidding but it was lethally true. This board will kvetch over things that...I can't believe. I'll be in a full-throated compliment of someone that's obvious and somebody will pick at it. It's just the nature of this beast. I do the same.

I get what you're saying Rock, but do you ever listen to the Sirius/XM fantasy channel?  I assume they know what pushes earballs to their channel, and they skew heavily toward season-long advice. There IS DFS programming, but this month everything has been draft, draft, draft. Of course, I have no idea about the demographics of the population they are catering to.  Maybe satellite radio also attracts an older crowd.

I'll be 36 in September.  Oldest league hits 20 this year, second league is 12 years old, third is 6.  Each is a bit of a different format (IDP, 2 QB, keeper) which keeps things fresh.

Per the poll results, I have noticed that even among my age cohort, there's a turn toward what I call the instant gratification of DFS.  The consistent complaint seems to be that season-long leagues are "unfair" because of injuries.  Perhaps I am old at heart, but those seasons can be some of the most fun to manage because you have to pull every lever available to have a shot.

I'm 53. I think of more interest would be how your use of FBG has changed or no changed with your age. In my 40s I was a daily visitor year round. Now in my 50s I am becoming one of those dreaded visitors only during the football season. I don't think it's an age thing but that among other things has changed since I crossed the 50 year line.

I'm 33, which, if my estimation is correct, I'm either the fourth or fifth youngest person to respond to this poll *edit* so far.  I was a teen when computers screamed at you and AOL made it so you never needed to buy coasters.

Yeet!   Doggo!   Yolo!  Umm, I can still speak l33+ - 1f +h4+ 1mpr3ss3s 4ny1?
