Shark Pool Mock #2 - "What teams WILL do" - Spots open. (1 Viewer)

You haven't seen a mock with 5 CBs taken in the first round and I don't think anyone else has from a credible mock.

It probably isn't going to happen and I am not sure Milliner goes as high as #6 or that we'll a run on corners till the second round.
Pete Prisco has five. A few others with 4. Milliner is almost universally slotted to Cleveland at #6.
I could see the Falcons trading up for him as well. Ma

I don't think Prisco has been widely considered to put out credible drafts.

Cleveland is getting lots of play for trading down from numerous sources.

Miami is supposedly interested in OT Brandon Albert but he comes with a $10 million salary and they'd have to give KC their high second round draft pick so why on earth would they let Jake Long walk and then turn around and pay a guy that high of a salary AND give up a high second round draft pick to fill-in that hole?

If they are going to give up that pick then why not move-up and get a younger and cheaper option with more upside?

This mock that projects CB Trufant in the top-twelve likely won't happen and we likely won't see five CBs taken in the first round.

Be..cause...they're Miami?

And because Albert probably is better than Long at this point in their respective careers. Both are banged up but Long much more so.

:goodposting:

It is like you people aren't familiar with Jeff Ireland.

ETA: Andy, Long wasn't a fit for Miami's zone-blocking scheme either. Not sure how Albert fits there, but the writing was on the wall for Jake last year. Dolphins reportedly don't like Lane Johnson too much.

Ireland took a gamble last year on a young QB who wasn't ready to start but it seems to be working out for him.

Lane Johnson is taylor-made for the slide-zone blocking scheme the Phins want to incorporate.

If anything the 'interest' in Albert is oddly timed no?

Less than two-weeks prior to the NFL draft and ALLOFASUDDEN Miami has Brandon Albert in for a visit.

Hmnnnn lets see, free agency began in March, its now past mid-April and rumors have already swirled about Miami moving up for Lane Johnson and the draft trade chart shows it would cost the FIRST of Miami's TWO-second round picks plus their fifth rounder to move up before Arizona at #7.

If I were skeptical I'd almost think Miami was serious about Brandon Albert they would have had him in for a visit in the last month but they didn't, hmmnnn. Naw I'm sure teams don't jump on the top rated free agents in the first 24 hours and then back-fill other minor holes after the market has bottomed out which it did with Albert weeks ago.

Yep, it would almost seem like a bargaining ploy to weaken the price to move-up, Nawwwwwwwwwwwww that'd never happen in the NFL.

I'm sure they are dying to pay Brandon Albert $10 million a year AND kick-in that high second round pick to boot for a guy who will be 30 years old next season instead of the 23 year old guy who would be under a much more managable rookie salary the next four years.

That looks like a great deal beause in 4 years the Dolphins would have a guy who would turn 34 and they'd have paid him $40 million instead of having a young vet entering his 5th NFL season who they would have paid half of that amount.

Yes, now that I look at it, it makes a lot more sense and the timing doesn't look the least bit suspicious.

SF pick #34 takes SMU DE Margus Hunt

It was hard to pass on Eric Reid, but S is a deep spot and we can get one with our next pick.

Hunt is an athletic freak who has the opportunity to develop under the tutelage of Justin Smith without pressure of immediate production.

Hunt is a Jim Harbaugh player: an exceptional athlete who is pliable and would do well with the outstanding coaching the 49ers have. Let's see Russell Wilson try to throw bubble screens to Percy Harvin on Hunt's side of the field. Not happening.
Hunt has strength and length, and he can run. The 49ers take him with an eye toward his future development.

Not a needs-based pick, but I like his potential a lot.

Actually, DL is a huge need for the 49ers and has been for awhile now.

We lost Sopoaga and RJFrancois this offseason, which leaves us very thin. Ray McDonald, Justin Smith, and not much else. Dorsey?

In hindsight, a NT like Hankins or Jenkins would fill a bigger "need", but IMO this team is going for players with much more upside (Corrdarelle and Hunt).

Next 2nd rounder will be another defender unless you guys keep letting the TE fall

I'll just be blatant; Titans offer this 2nd and the 4th or a 2014 3rd for any pick that would land us Eifert.

Bengals take Eddie Lacy. 2.37

Bengals always seem to think they're ok at RB while everyone else disagrees, but come on... This has to happen. Lewis has talked for years about having interchangable backs to rotate and never ends up using his backup. Now he finally gets the talent to play with. BJGE is a quality player, but he's not a long term stud and will eventually give way to Lacy here.

Add in the chance for another Alabama player and the fact that Cyprien, Elam, ABrown, Ogletree were all gone and they probably run to the podium.

Lacy was probably the 3rd choice at 21 and if so I probably would've gone Menelik Watson here.

any chance the Lions take Keenan Allen or Justin Hunter? Datone Jones? Pugh or Long? Trade down?

ETA: if they're sold on Reiff, go Moore, Hunter, Warford... Gotta think they'd be looking to trade down here. Jones seems the BPA, but he's more valuable to other teams.

2.35 - Tyler Eifert, TE - Notre Dame Easy pick. Don't care that they acquired Casey.
Great pick. Kelly has gone on record in saying that the TE position will be used heavily and his "consulting" with Belicheck seems to show an on the field example. Celek, Casey, Eifert is a great combo. I would not be surprised if Hunt were the pick here if he fell because Kelly has also been very clear that he wants big athletic players at every position. Reid at safety seems to fit that description as well. As much as I like Fisher or Joekel, I wouldn't mind a Dion Jordan/Margus Hunt combo added to the new 3-4

Arizona probably depends on their QB plan. If they like Matt Barkley, maybe him here. If they like someone they can get later, Allen would make sense.

Vikings looking to trade up from 52.

Offering 2nd rounder(52) and the 5th pick in the 4th round(102) looking to get in this range

2.38 - E.J. Manuel - QB, FSU

I can't decide if I like Manuel or Barkley here but Arians seems to like his QBs a bit more mobile.
I think that AZ would've preferred to wait until later to get Bray honestly -- Arians likes QB's with big arms. Another OL or a DB makes sense here.

Not to jump ahead, but have to step out.

If the Jets don't take the falling star, make the Titans pick 2.40 Datone Jones, DE/DT

If they do take him, I'll grab the guy I expected too all along - Larry Warford, G

Edit - I'm back, but sticking with this.

Don't see the Jets spending a 2nd rounder on a guy who will be third string behind Beavis and Butthead...er, Sanchez and Gerrard. There's also a Tebow problem on the roster.

I know it's en vogue to bash Barkley but he's better than either Sanchez or Garrard and Tebow will be cut eventually.

The other argument against Barkley is that they just traded Revis in our scenerio, which means they're going to be completely awful in 2013 regardless. Maybe wait a year and draft Teddy or Marriota?

Could see it either way.

Yes, he's better than all three, but Sanchez is an awfully expensive backup and I don't think Garrard came to NY to be a 3rd stringer.

And I think Barkley will be a fine QB, but that's a terrible situation for him.

Garrard has a shot at it. He won the QB battle in Miami before he was injured over Tannehill and Moore. I think Sanchez and Tebow are worse than those QBs.

Franchises simply don't behave that way. You can't expect players to have a "tank it and we'll get better next year" mentality. They play to win every year.

A rookie GM will want to put a stamp on the team and if you have to have an expensive backup in Sanchez to improve with a rookie in Barkley then I think he'd do it.

Maybe. You think they'll take a different QB or just roll with Sanchez another year?
Maybe a different one, but there isn't one worth taking here.

Hypthetically, with Philly drafting Geno; why would they keep Foles? Maybe the Jets trade this pick for Foles.

Walter football lists their goals as:

  • New York Jets: The Jets are a complete mess. They're about to cut the top quarterback on their roster for moronic reasons, so they'll need to find a franchise signal-caller at some point. There are holes everywhere else as well, with only the left tackle, center and defensive end positions not needing to be upgraded.

Ideal 2013 NFL Draft (First Four Rounds):

    9. Dee Milliner, CB

    13. Tavon Austin, WR (Darrelle Revis trade)

    39. Zach Ertz, TE

    72. Sio Moore, DE/OLB

    106. Andre Ellington, RB
Just a thought but - trade this pick for Foles; Philly drafts D Jones.

To keep this moving, let's just say that they keep Sanchez simply because he is so expensive and take:

2.39 - Keenan Allen, WR - Cal
