Shark Pool mock draft - three rounds. Draft started (1 Viewer)

Baltimore takes

Tracy Porter, CB - Indiana

Ravens couldn't stop the pass because their starting corners got old and average and their backups stink.

Saints pick = Antoine Cason - CB - Arizona

Going well so far for the Saints, got there man at Safety and CB. Other consideration was Curtis Lofton LB from Oklahoma.

With the 37 pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select...

Chad Henne - QB - Michigan

Beck didn't have a lot of opportunity to shine last year.. but he didn't look like he had "it" when he was on the field. He's also close to retirement age.

Some might think it's too early but I think we've seen the real Chad Henne lately. I actually have him above Brohm, and right about here in the 2nd round. His throwing shoulder was injured during the season and he looked horrible... but after it had a month to heal he made all the throws against Florida and looked great at the Senior Bowl practices. He's also got the cannon to make use of Ginn's speed... now we just need an Oline and another reciever.... oh and some more defensive players.
Kirby...Nice job so far. As a phin fan, I cannot disagree with your picks. However, the D backfield and O line are things that need to be addressed as well.

2.11 - Denver Broncos - Philip Wheeler, LB - Georgia Tech

Ian Gold is going to be shown the door and D.J. Williams wasn't the answer in the middle. Wheeler can play any spot in the corps, giving the Bronc's a lot of flexibility.

I thought about grabbing Porter here, but I'm gambling that I can get someone comparable later and I weeped softly as I watched 5 OT's go in the first 22 picks. I think there's a big gap between those 5 and the next few guys. Both spots are on my list though.

He's a better fit for a cover/tampa2, but still is an upgrade from what they have.
This Cason hate is mind-boggling. Guy is an absolute stud and for no reason should be falling behind the likes of Tracey Porter. Pound for pound, he is probably the second most versatile CB in the draft and played so much man in AZ that he is easily the most NFL ready of all the DB's. All this talk that he's not fast, pffft. Just ask Desean Jackson. I've seen it happen not only here but many fan mocks as well, leading me to think that the sheep have really come out in full force lately.

Just around a month ago, people were slating him going #7 to the Pats and now he's falling into round 2- for what reason exactly? Do people really put THAT much stock in the senior bowl that it can wipe out three years worth of memories of a guy who was battling to be the #1 CB off the board last year, had a stellar senior season that won him 1st team All American and the Jim Thorpe Award?

:goodposting:

As far as saftey goes, #1 - the two guys andy listed I know nothing about

#2 - weddle is one starter and they took a supplemental pick on Paul Oliver who is moving to S this coming camp.
Totally forgot about him. I think Connor is a decent pick. Not too many holes on that roster.
I think without Jamal in there SD suffered vs. the run. Plus he getting old. Also Cooper,Wilhelm etc. is an area that need an upgrade, more than saftey.

I wanted Balmer, or Baker/Williams at OT.

This concludes the SD portion of the draft.

SD Holes that will be dressed later in the draft or, hopefully, via free agency. (should get a supplemental 3rd from D.Edwards)

Backup RB

G and or T - Faneca please,please,please

Saftey

Kickoff Specialist - Kaeding struggled with Kickoffs, but I can overlook it a little due to a broken leg

Backup NT/DT
They also have Waters on the roster, and he was basically given a redshirt year. That said, with the OT's off the board and no DT's worth taking at this point, it is a tough pick. I might have gone with Felix here, but Connor would be an interesting addition, and you can never have too many LB's in the 3-4. Good pick.

Who said I hated him?I saw Porter's name through a lot of PM's so I had him on my mind when I sent him to Baltimore. It could just as easily have been Cason. I like him a lot and still think he's a first rounder. He's getting lost in a numbers game this year though as there are a lot of good guys at the position.

If he runs a 4.45 or better at the combine, his value will shoot up again.

Well?
If Manningham is too small, and Buffalo wants a big wr, then why not Hardy instead of Thomas?

Both moves by Dallas have been about maximizing the value of the assets available. I think I've accomplished that so far.
But you haven't improved the team at the spots that need improving. We'll see what you end up with in the 2nd, but this was a risky move.
We do need a RB. So to that end, that need is filled. But you're right, there are some other spots that need addressing.
Based on what has unfolded you are doing fine Ridge. You got good value for the 22 pick as Chicago will be middle of the pack again next year. Mendenhall will be a great pro and fits the Cowboys offense fine. I agree he isn't a compliment to Barber, but he sure makes a graet insurance policy as you have already pointed out. Still have 2 second picks to look at CB and WR. Heck maybe even a Safety.

Well?
Not familiar enough with Buffalo's need, but Thomas would make a great complement for Evans. Can't argue with that pick. The Wheeler pick is a great pick, and as a Chargers fan, I hope that doesn't happen..

Because Hardy is too slow. Seriously, I think the buzz on Hardy is unwarranted.**This statement brought to you by the "Department of Things You Say That Later Come Back To Bite You In The ###."

With the 44th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select:

Mario Manningham WR Michigan

Manningham is the top rated WR on several boards and is exceptional value at 44. The dropoff in talent after him is substantial. He fills the need for a deep threat on the Cowboy roster and has the potential to develop into a #1 receiver in time. Might also help in the return game.

Dallas still has not addressed its primary need, corner. But that position has been so picked over to this point, value, again, is driving the selection to another direction. Both Manningham and Mendenhall fill secondary needs for the Cowboys.

Oh sorry andy, I wasn't referring to you specifically, I just accidentally quoted you. My point stems more to the fact that upon declaring for the draft, he was slated a top 15 pick based upon three years of stellar play in the pac-10. Now I see why everyone is excited about McKelvin and that he may show the most promise out of any DB in the draft, but why are all these other CB's jumping ahead of Cason? A stellar set of 3 practices and the senior bowl? If anything, the Senior bowl inflates the value of DB's in particular because QB's and WR's are not even close to being on the same page.

And the knock on Cason's speed has always been there. Did he suddenly become slower in the last few months? I just can't believe people are buying into the flash-in-the-pan prospects over a proven stud. People who have watched Cason know that he was consistently thrown into man-coverage situations where he would be left on an island with no over-the-top safety help and STILL held down his end of the field.

Hell, Porter didn't even have a great Senior Bowl.

No prob.I agree. He was talked about as a potential 1st rounder last year, comes back with a better year this year and he DROPS? I don't get it either.

This is how you draft. Zig when they zag. Dallas has many holes and these selections address that. Although I am not a huge Manningham fan it's hard to argue with the value here.
