Shark Tank on ABC (1 Viewer)

I really like this show, but one thing which is really starting to bug me about it is the number of sob story pitches that are showing up. It isn't as bad ad Extreme Home Makeover, but the Japanese dude crying about how he couldn't gt married unless a Shark gave him X thousand dollars was getting a bit much.

This trend seems to be getting worse over the past couple of seasons...

I did love the pitch were they said to the guy who wanted to call his CFO that he couldn't since he was the guy who gave them the bad valuation.
I don't watch the sob stories or any pre-produced packages other than the updates. I don't care. I just want to see the pitch & negotiation parts. Fast-forward to the rest. This is one of those shows I will only watch on DVR after it's fully recorded.
Not sure how you can do that when the sob story is part of the pitch and it's why the Japanese dude got a deal.
30-second skip ahead works great once I'm bored with the pitch and negotiations and it becomes sob story time. Jump ahead until I either see handshakes or walking away dejectedly. An episode of this show takes like 20 minutes to watch.
I watch it all. It sometimes surprises me how mean or funny a judge(s) can be even during the sob story pitches.

IMO Barbara is the worst and adds the least value. Put her out to pasture already.

My kids love the show.
She's one of my favorites. And iirc, as of a year or so ago all the sharks said she had made the most $$ from the investments on the show. I could do without one of Lori, Damon, or Robert.
Robert is key. He rarely makes deals but he's got the most compelling back story and he is willing to step up sometimes when other sharks are not.

Damon is also key, due to his fashion industry expertise imo.

Lori is just the QVC gal. She's better than the original home shopping guy they had when the show first started, so I don't mind her.

The Profit is another angle on a similar premise (millionaire investor makes the difference in a small business' future) that I think works really well too. Has anyone seen that one?

Heard Daymond speak in Las Vegas a couple months ago at a conference. Interesting guy.

Actually Mr not very wonderful makes the fewest deals. They had shark tank on every day last week, multiple epis and I saw Robert make more deals than the dead to me dude.

Daymond is a funny dude. He was on What Would You Do one time portraying a poor dude in a very expensive men's store looking at suits that you'd think he couldn't afford. One of the shoppers recognized him but fooled others, one of which was offended that such a guy was in that store. It was great when it was revealed who he was. Apologies galore to those who thought he shouldn't be in there!

The show has really lost its way. The stupid injecting of emotion at every little thing is infuriating.

That little red dress girl credited her dad dying as the motivation to boost sails by like 500% I just don't get it. I'm going to blame it on Obama, because that seems like the thing to do.

Also, the businesses/products just suck lately.

The "Go Pro Guy" is clueless. Most of these Shark Tank Investors have had multiple investment ventures. Love this show but he has to go.

The way he went in on the deal and then how they "improved " the offer didn't make sense. Maybe I heard it wrong.

Makes it more entertaining watching Mr not so wonderful dissect them. :D I love this show. Not excited about guest sharks as I really like the original cast.

Did anybody see this past weeks episode with the GoPro guy substituting for Robert? I did not like him at all. And I thought the companies were kind of weak too.

I don't like how all the updates are success stories. I want to hear about as some failures too and why the shark thought it failed.

I'd posit most if not all these turn into "successes" simply because the sharks can pretty much put scale up anything they want at this point with any decent profit margin. The only failures seem to be some of the food products which you can hear in their reluctance to do many of those deals.

Terrible. He had to work GoPro into every segment. "Your company reminds me a lot of when I started GoPro" and "The scalability issue is something we had to address with GoPro", etc.
Absolutely. This was my biggest objection to him. And in addition I think he knew he was the new kid and so was trying to sound real cool and prove what a savvy dealmaker he was.

BTW, what did anybody think about the Squatty Potty from the 100th episode show? I'd been hearing some radio advertising for Squatty Potty, but I didn't realize it was just a stool to raise your feet so your stool would come out more easily.

I was excited for it, but never bought one

If you took all the remaining shark brain power and added it together, you still wouldn't match the intelligence of Mark Cuban. I think that guy is one smart dude.

And Cuban hates Robert. Probably because he thinks he's a dumb###

I just lift my legs up or put my feet on the bathroom trashcan, works just as well

Same thing if you added up the money. Cuban is worth $2.6B and I think all but one of the other sharks are under $100M. The 2 women they have on there are worth a measly ~$40M. It's Cuban's show.

Cuban is a genius. No surprise he's worth over $2 billion.

I think you guys may be over-valuing Cuban's intelligence a tad. Cuban helped create a product that no one uses, no one cares about, and has since disappeared. He helped sell it to Yahoo at the height of the dot-com boom at a value of $10,000 per user ( ) in what would be known as one of the top 3 worst deals for the acquiring company of the dot-com era. The guy is a good salesman and is obviously smart, but he had some very fortunate timing in selling a bad and over-valued product. That doesn't make him some sort of genius.

Not that impressive and him taking the video w/his camera is completely lame. Doesn't seem that smart and no idea why GoPro is worth so much freaking $$$$$$.

There have been numerous occasions of someone coming onto the show and taking a lesser deal to work with Barbara. And as of a couple seasons ago, all the sharks readily admitted Barbara had easily made the most money off her investments.

audio streaming of sports, music, and books. They also did a small amount of video

Broadcast.com

basically listening to radio and sporting events over the internet.

One mistake that people always make iun their valuations is not putting a price on twhat he "sharks" bring to the table

i.e. if you think your company is worth 3 million and you are offing 300,000 for 10%, you're doing it wrong.

hoyrs of shark time and the hours of the resources they have available plus their consulting wisdom and contacts is not worth $0.

I think people generally overvalue (or should) coming in, because the sharks almost always make an offer at a lower value, and everyone should expect to negotiate....and I agree that they should adjust for the value the sharks bring, its definitely worth SOMETHING.

Yeah, the companies were very weak, and the people didn't seem all there either. Ended up fast-forwarding through most of the show in 10/12 minutes. My thing is I skip the shark intros, then I skip any pre-made video about the people before they walk in the door. I just keep forwarding until they walk in the door. Then I watch the pitch, and, if it sucks, I fast-forward to the end to see if any shark makes a deal (usually, if I've tuned out of the pitch, the sharks tend to drop out as well). If the pitch kept my interest, I'll watch negotiations until they suck. If there's too much bickering or it's too drawn out or the person is blowing it, I'll again jump to the resolution to see what happens and move on.

Add in skipping most of the "update" segment (I'll only watch the first minute to hear them mention the revenue increase, I don't need to know the rest), and skipping the 100th Episode fodder at the end of last week, and, yeah, record fast time for me to get through an episode
This seems idea must lot time but a.d.d.

like efficient posting style - no unnecessary words.

Robert's pretty damn near worthless.

The main thing he does each show is announce what each person's financing request translates to in terms of a valuation total.

Next he's the first one out.

Then at the end, he rehashes the other shark's offers and presses the person for an answer.

I could probably count on one hand the times I've actually seen Robert do a deal.

He seems like a nice guy, but he doesn't add much to the show deal-wise.
