Why do so many people equate Dynasty with good 3-5 years from now? SA will be a stud when he returns. He'll be a top 7 RB next year, and a top 10 RB the year after that. AT WORST. He had a cracked bone not gangrene.Last time I checked you want to win THIS year first. Unless someone is offering me Maroney and maybe Addai, it would take a good RB plus some first round picks for me to part with SA this year or next.I'll worry about 2008-09 later.
Not sure how anyone could imply that the original post was worried about 3-5 years from now. I am worried about next year. I've been in a dynasty league a long time, and I've seen owners buy Eddie George, Terrell Davis, Priest Holmes, Marshall Faulk, etc. during their first down year thinking that "he's goign to come back full strength next year and I am getting a bargain this year". Turned out, that these backs were on just beginning a very steep and hard fall from success. NFL RBs can fall off the cliff very quickly.Sounds like you would be willing to trade your perceived RB10 next season for Alexander straight up this season. What happens if Alexander turns into RB15, RB20, RB30? Then you came out behind. Obviously, if the SA owner offered me SA for Mike Bell, I jump at it. But do you jump at it if you have to give up Rudi Johnson? Ronnie Brown? Caddy Willaims? Reggie Bush? Addai?Sure, SA may return to being a top 5 back, but I think it is naive to assume there is no way that he doesn't end up at RB30.I think the productive discussion to have is: what would you be willing to give up for Alexander in a dynasty league?Personally, I think it's a bit risky to trade expecting RB5 value. I think you have to temper it and hope you get a bargain.
