What can be done for these soldiers and their families? Would giving to the Red Cross accomplish anything?

Yes. Red Cross makes all the notifications and provides a ton of assistance in times of tradgedy. The people who really help are here. If you want to donate money to help soldiers and their families, donate to them.

Bumping this again. Dr. Detroit was kind enough to post this earlier. It's the Army Emergency Relief. I've already made a donation. Please help if you can. You can write that it's for the Fort Hood tragedy.

What are you talking about? The idea that I posted if anything was justified today? When the folks in the ME blow themsleves up isn't there always a few people that want to at least find out what was making those folks so upset they blew themselves up? According to the General the shooter is not dead and death is no imminent. A CID officer has been with him the entire time.

I am sort of happy that he is alive and he can provide the information of why he did this. I am very surprised he was not executed by whoever shot him.

I've heard all day that there were three suspects. The more recent updates have said that the shooter acted alone. I must be blind because I haven't ever met nor do I imagine in the US Army a Major being harassed by racists to the point where he feels the only answer is to kill a lot of innocent people. Lower enlisted get harassed, relatively senior officers might get a joke thrown their way here and there but they know how to put an end to it and the guy is a freakin mental health professional, he of all people knows how to deal with any racists.

Virginia Tech largest civilian shooting spree...the shooter today went to Virginia Tech. Very weird coincidence?

I think it's important to remember that not everyone who went to Virginia Tech is a mass murderer of people and/or dogs.
