Just curious, for anyone who thinks the punishment of the broken phone does not fit the crime, what do you think the school should do to the guy (assuming he's a student)?

Nothing. From Penn State's perspective, this is an open-and-shut 1A issue.

That said, I know some general counsels take the view that it's worth it to settle this kind of case out of court (i.e. pay the student to go away) rather than take the PR hit, but I seriously doubt there's a PR hit to take here.

Jason Kelce was heckled by a student at Penn State game that called his brother a "F*ggot"

Kelce grabbed his phone and smashed it.

Of course the internet is cheering him.

But wondering what, if anything, you think ESPN should do as his employer?

I wanted to quickly respond as I couldn’t when this happened. I had a few friends at this game and rumor was it the kid who was yelling was pretty bombed. I think Jason only apologized for using the word back but it wasn’t much. Kids today have the keyboard warrior mentality and so do some adults as there’s no consequences to their actions. I recently saw a video at abaseball game some fan acted out of pocket and opposing fan took the cell phone and gave it a nice Chuck onto the playing field. Good for them imho.

No one got hurt in the Kelce incident besides this dbags ego and a broken cell. Not sure what charges the rent a cop university security can throw on Kelce because 1A protects people in you can’t incite violent reactions with hate speech or actions and the word is under hate speech he used. Dude is lucky all Kelce did was Chuck his phone. If this guy was brave he’d done it at an eagles game but he’d probably be in a body bag or sipping food through a straw. Dude should be lucky that’s all Kelce did.

More people should react like that. As for the rest shocked this dude hasn’t been Id’d yet. He must not be a student or he’s probably an alumni. I will say if I was his current employer and saw this he’d be terminated. It may not be at work on work time but this guy represents a company in public and if investors customers see this could hurt my bottom line. Hopefully he gets his walking papers. If it is a student considering the college code of conduct they could easily ask for expulsion

Either way I can’t stand that school or program after Sandusky absolute cult up there. Love seeing them take Ls on and off the field.
