Wow people have become a bunch of pansies.

Oh noes... I can't go to bed until midnight and I have to be up at 7am!!

Suck it up for a day or take a half day of vacation.
Great post. All the people in here saying they weren't going to watch the Super Bowl at all because they didn't want to stay up late are total pansies.

:own3d:

You should probably learn what a "preference" means. For example, if I tell you that I'd rather sleep with Adriana Lima than Megan Fox, it doesn't mean I'd turn down Ms. Fox. It just means that I'd prefer Adriana Lima. See how that works?

In case you don't, the Saturday Super Bowl is Adriana Lima in this analogy, and the Sunday Super Bowl is Megan Fox.

One thing not mentioned regarding moving it to Saturday is all the NBA and NHL games already on the calendar for that date. I'm sure most big league cities don't want to lose a major revenue event night so people can stay at home and watch TV. The NFL has always seemed to be friendly with the other leagues with their scheduling.

Huh? NBA and NHL games don't differentiate between playing on Saturdays and Sundays. The NHL skews a bit to having more Saturday games, and the NBA to Sunday. They would just play their games on Sunday if the Super Bowl was Saturday, or would play them earlier on Saturday like they do with Sunday games on the day of the Super Bowl.

Leave it on Sunday, but have kickoff around 5. Most of the second half still carries into prime time, and whatever your feature show is afterwards, it doesn't end up showing AFTER prime time. Optimally, game & post-game could be over by 10:00-10:30pm east-coast.
...and now you've lost prime time for the West Coast.
Most of their football isn't in prime time (the playoffs)...and until they get a market in L.A., they're at the end of the spectrum in terms of football TV market audiences.
The Super Bowl is.

Huh?The Bobcats have/had 15 Saturday dates and 4 Sunday games. The first Sunday game of the year is Feb 28th. Friday and Saturday games fill the local restuarants and bars.

Do you really think that's why the restaurants and bars are busy on Fridays and Saturdays? Serious question. I have no idea how popular the Bobcats really are.

Yep...the Charlotte Bobcats are the key stopping point from a Saturday Super Bowl.

Huh? LA is a huge football TV market. That's the argument for NOT putting a team there.Maybe I misunderstand.

What I meant is that the league has little incentive to shift schedules or game times to pacific time- there are only 6 teams in the pacific/mountain time zones and the majority of the TV markets nationally are in the central/eastern time zones. Another team and venue on the west coast would add some numbers to the argument to keep things later or even shift things later, but even the last olympics wasn't shown live on the west coast, so it wouldn't be the first time west coast prime time was a lower priority.

Ok, see what you're saying... and of course while a chunk of the reason a game starts at 8:30pm on the Eastern Seaboard is to get it in prime time, part of the reason is also to get eyeballs home (or close to it) on the left coast.I don't think you could ever go later than the games are now - you'd lose a lot of the East Coast.Forget Sat - I'd take a game that started at 4pm EST. That'd be 1pm for PST, early for kids and parents but still on Sunday.Win-win!FWIW - 6:30 isn't terrible IMO but my kids are getting old enough to hang at a Super Bowl party so... I dunno as a single guy I would have liked a Sat Super Bowl because I could sleep in and be hungover Sunday without burning a vacation day. OTOH I worked a lot of jobs that had me at work Sunday too, so it sucked to be me regardless. ;)

No way. They could cut down on the 6 hours of pregame though and start the game a little earlier.
The thing is, I'm fairly confident that the NFL has done the market research and arrived on the 6:30 start time as the ideal time to maximize viewership. They're not going to change that.Saturday, on the other hand... most of the country is off, and is off the next day. Super Bowl parties would go from common to unavoidable. I know it seems strange to have Super Bowl Saturday, but having the Orange Bowl on January 4th seemed odd a few years back too.

Chicago Bulls...18 Satuday dates and 3 Sunday games. So tell me more about this Sunday skewing???

One of the reasons why the local gov't paid for an uptown stadium was to drive more traffic downtown to other businesses. If you move the Super Bowl to Saturday you might see and huge economic impact across other leagues, movie theaters, restuarants, etc. Heck...hundreds of thousands have kids playing basketball/soccer/hockey/etc this weekend. Why would the NFL mess with the apple cart when it provides no financial benefit to them? I suspect ratings would be down on a Saturday night. The host cities would likely lose a night of hotel revenue. I'm sure the commish and owners want to risk losing revenue just so guys like EG can party a little more.

bottom line is NFL and Sundays are a perfect match and should stay that way.they don't change march madness to start on a weekend just b/c people have to work.

To add to the point I've made previously, I just would not want to spend my Saturday night in front of the TV. Not even for the Super Bowl. I would be willing to bet that there are an awful lot of people in the 14-30ish range who feel exactly the same way.

for us here in Germany (or Europe in general) it would also be great if the SB would be moved to Saturday.

We are 6-9 hours ahead, the SB this year starts at 2 a.m. CET...

So if you want to see it live, you have to take a day off on Monday.

Too bad it isn't your thread. :link:It doesn't make me sad. I read an article showing that the nation loses over $1,000,000,000 in productivity the Monday after the Super Bowl, presumably because panty-waists can't nut up and go to work. I've been at work at 8 AM every Super Bowl Monday, including the Steelers' Super Bowls. Just seems like it would not only eliminate the massive productivity loss, but also make it easier for those with kids to accomodate the family, if the game were held on Saturday. To reiterate, I have no kids, and I suck up the Monday every year, so this isn't about me.

It's a little different. March Madness goes on for weeks, and doesn't draw nearly the casual fans of the Super Bowl. I don't go to a lot of March Madness parties (sadly.)

1.) There is no possible way that they could measure $1B in lost productivity on the Monday after the Super Bowl. That is a number that was completely made up for shock value.2.) If you're making into work at 8 AM every Monday following the Super Bowl, and that includes the ones that your team has won, then you're not celebrating hard enough, and I just lost a ton of respect for the Steeler fan who I respect more than any other Steeler fan on this board. Say it ain't so, EG... say it ain't so. :blackdot:
