Silicon Valley - New Mike Judge 8-Part HBO Series (1 Viewer)

Sweet Jesus this dude is out of touch.  He has no sense of self awareness
Just read the interview myself and I have to agree.  He really sounds like his ego has got the best of him and really threw some people under the bus there.

Did anyone catch this quote from him:

I didn’t talk to Alec because I don’t like Alec...
Wow.  I'm starting to think him leaving is probably a good thing.

seems more than a little self-absorbed, but maybe that's par for the course with comedians. and he definitely has beef with Alec Berg.
I don't agree with TJ's opinion of himself, but he is dead right the show is way too cyclical.  That cyclical nature has made it harder to integrate the vast array of funny, but temporary characters in the stable.  I'm not surprised that TJ didn't want to become one of those, but I wish he had.

I'd be surprised if they think giving more to Thomas Middleditch is the solution. The show suffers when he is too much of the focus.

I was going to post something similar. That last scene was so predictable. I wish he would have taken the Hooli offer.

Yeah, the less of him the better. I thought the season was disappointing albeit with some great parts.

Also agree. I've been posting about that since pretty much day 1. I don't understand the writers' obsession with this show being so ridiculously plot heavy every episode. It's not Breaking Bad or Mad Men. 95% of the scenes doesn't have to be about the business and the next steps/successes/struggles. Put these idiots in some typical sitcom situations and the quality writing will make it seem atypical and original. It would have the benefit of being less cyclical and could also stretch the show out much further.

The show is hilarious but seriously 4 seasons of the whole failure/last second save or vice versa is very tiresome at this point.

agree with everything you said... except...

I read that piece thinking he was a self-absorbed idiot... and then slowly came around to thinking the entire thing was his schtick or act by the end. and I kind of liked the interview and him more with that in mind.

loved his last line "big.... head....". made me think of "rose bud", except by an insane opium addict.

And then the people that don’t are like stupid f—ing websites like TV Over Mind or something, and they’re putting forth very reasonable, well written logic for why this is so dumb and the only thing I’ll ever be good at was this part in Silicon Valley. Yet none of them have seen Yogi Bear 3D, so they’re all talking and chit-chattering and squawk, squawk, squawk — but none of them have seen Yogi Bear 3D. So they don’t know that I’ve already done the best thing that I’ll ever do. And because of that, there is no fear about any move in Hollywood for me. I’m just on the downslope. This is all a downward spiral, career-wise.

Ya the fridge thing, while clever, seems a bit of a stretch. It's basically at the point where there's never any actual drama because you know when they're in a bind they'll just pull something out of their ### and everything will be fine again.

The hacked smart fridge is the funniest thing since middle-out

I couldn't tell if he really doesn't like Burg and Middleditch or if it was schtick

It was funny, but for me the last episode and that ending essentially completed the transition from smart comedy incorporating real-ish tech and silicon valley start-up finance caricatures (season 1) to outright farcical comedy with a crazy rotating cast of quirky slapstick clowns (current season).

Completely agree.  Still a damn funny group of clowns.  I wish they would have kept Erlich around sporadically. Glad Gavin is back agree with @NYRAGE that teaming up with Gavin would have been a good turn.  Having Jared and Gilfoyle in the same room with Gavin was pretty great.

I liked it better when it was less about Richard's neuroses torpedoing the project and more about just the sheer absurdity of the "tech" culture/business as the antagonist. As its become...it's still very much worth watching...but I think its kind of reaching the end here.

I really do think that they can get a full season out of these guys basking in success.  So two more seasons seem reasonable/plausible.  Agree that it's gotten way too cyclical.

:lmao:

I do miss Erlich (and Jian-Yang isn't quite as good without Erlich as a foil, at least thus far) but as long as we still have Dinesh/Gilfoyle and Gavin, I'll be watching.  It's still great.
I don’t know, I’m finding Richard to be a major drag on the show (which started sometime last year). I started skipping through a couple of his scenes where he wasn’t being balanced out by the other regular cast.

I've always found Richard to be less funny and more of the guy that keeps the plot going.  He's funny sometimes, but he doesn't get a ton of great comedic lines (which apparently, he complained about and was part of the reason TJ Miller left the show, albeit a small part.)  Jared is funny sometimes too, but I don't know - Gilfoyle, Erlich, and Gavin are the three that always did it for me.  Missing one of them hurts, but I still have the other 2.

- gettin' my   back on tonight -

but no Erlich is gonna be brutal for me, just brutal ...  i rank him as a top ten HBO character of all-time.

sum##### really knew how to bring it.

I agree with all that. I guess the difference for me is Richard has gone from lovable loser to an awful person, and not in a funny way like Russ Hanneman. I assume that has been done for a plot reason but it feels out of place on this show.

Jared’s lines are getting more subtle. When they were talking to the CEO of the company they wanted to take over and he busted out with “We all know what it’s like when you have to make a decision to only save half of your family.”

oh, and Ed Chambers. Moar Ed Chambers.

Gavin continues to be one of the funniest for me. his reactions and his F word ferocity crack me up.

I hated Erlich but I think that was more due to the fact I despise TJ Miller. I just dont find him funny and hes very obnoxious. Apparently, hes a real jackhole in real life too.
