Silicon Valley - New Mike Judge 8-Part HBO Series (1 Viewer)

Great finale. Gregory dying has to be a hard pill to swallow from a writing/production stand point as his character was obviously gonna play a major role after they won the competition and with his rivalry with Gavin Belson. I know they can just say he died in the next episode and have a replacement for him, but his character was so freaking unique.

I don't know if it's a great idea, but they could re-cast the character.

Liked the last episode. The biggest laugh I had was Dinesh saying "we may never see him alive again". Good delivery. The whiteboard jerking scene was funny too.

Sets up well for next season, can't wait!

Anyone know why it was set up to only run 8 episodes?

Just started watching VEEP. Two episodes in and its pretty good. Silicon Valley is much better though.

The ironic part about his breakthrough solution was that he threw away all the work of all the other characters and his "pivot" to a compression company as opposed to an entire platform means that he doesn't even really need them. They kind of glossed over that and I wonder if they'll even bother addressing it in a season 2.

Doesn't he need them now to build the suite of apps around it?

I have no idea what I'm talking about.
I suspect next season they get to set up their big nerdy office environment a la hooli and google and all of these others (amazon? ;) ).

Also, I assume they move on from the house...new mega house?

That's exactly the point. He dumped the idea of building an entire platform with a suite of apps and instead just focus purely on the compression itself - essentially letting platforms like Houli buy their service for their apps, eliminating the need for the guys who were building those apps.

Hmm, I assumed that he just improved the compression and despite the fact he had no apps to go with it, it was revolutionary enough by itself to earn the win. I suppose now he could sell to anyone or make his own apps for it...

All he showed in that presentation was a better core algorithm. He can do anything with it. Season 2 could be him trying to sell it somewhere else or pivoting into some different solution. It's more like starting with a clean slate. They have everyone's attention again and where it goes has yet to be defined. I don't think it causes any problem with the plotline.

Veep gets better as the seasons go
I watched the first couple of episodes of season 1 a while back and didn't really get into it. I've been watching the current season after Silicon Valley/GoT and even without knowing all that's happened in previous seasons, it's hilarious.

The hour of comedy that is Silicon Valley and Veep can't be beat right now.
Veep is easily one of the funniest shows ever, and no one is watching.
Saw the third episode S1 last night. It was pretty funny. I just find it more difficult to LOL at VEEP than SV. Not sure that SV will have the staying power of VEEP though.
Veep is subtler. But they have such a sheer volume of hilarious insults, it kind of flies under the radar.

Just watched the hilarious finale. Great ending to the show. Looking forward to season 2.

eta: Veep is still better but this could get there.

Watching the league and all the main characters are showing up.
Judge was on WTF a couple weeks ago and said that all of the main guys have a long history of doing improv together for a long time, which he didn't even know when they were cast. The League casts from a similar world, so it makes sense.

Don't you bury the lead on me. Mike Judge was on WTF!? I need to check that out.

So stoked to listen.

If you remember SCTV, Maron also just interviewed the hilarious Andrea Martin.

Maron's really a fantastic interviewer. As much as he can get trapped in his own head, he really has a genuine curiosity about his interview subjects and asks good questions, and gets to some good stuff with some pretty simple/mundane questions.

Agree with everything you said EXCEPT: there are times where Maron doesn't spend much time on the guest's best work.
