It's really hitting home with me right now.  My girls have been out on their own for several years, and my son is a senior in HS. They're all busy living their lives, and preparing for the future. I've been divorced for 4 years after 20 years of marriage. The house is increasingly quiet. I thought I'd enjoy the peace and quiet and time to myself, but the loneliness is beginning to creep in. Where does the time go?

New chapter in life.  My ex took off 3 years ago leaving me with the kids, house etc.  my daughter graduated college and son a junior.  They still live with me but time is short.  Need to find a new girl so try dating sites.  Good luck.. 

 
I'm getting that feeling as well now that I'm divorced and the kids are only here a few days a week.   It was just a matter of time until the kids were gone regardless and I don't think that I ever want to go back to living with someone.    I'm enjoying the online dating scene to a degree and there's certainly a trade off to living alone, but its really nice just having complete control over my dwelling that I don't think I ever want to give up.

I’m in a similar position.  Being the master of my domain for almost 3 years and like the independence but been dating a girl for about a year.  I’m reluctant for the cohabitation.  Got a big taste coming up in May as we’re going to Ireland.  Not sure 24 7 will work...  

 
Just don’t marry someone and let your kids get screwed when you die. My dads wife didn’t even want us at the funeral. Was annoyed that I put pictures in the slide show of his parents. And to top it off, she gets all of his multimillion dollar real estate, cash, 401k, stocks, etc. I know it’s his fault. He set it up. He screwed us. So don’t do that.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing seems to happen most of the time in that situation.

Can't really relate, I made damn sure all that running around hunting for Miss Tonight  was over before thinking of settling down. When unemotional sex got boring and I needed something more, ok.......time to get serious. 

Found her in a bar but she was no party girl,  she was just there with a friend who was with the bouncer.

Been married 33 years, our biggest argument is why can't I remember to put the top back on the toothpaste. Life is good.

Guessing you got married too soon.

I totally disagree,  nothing insulting at all,  if you think so then you're wrong.  Most marriages that don't work are because both were too young to understand what they were getting into.

Wow, that really sucks. My wife’s dad was getting close before he passed away. He mom died while they were married a few years ago. I’m glad he never got remarried because my wife and her sisters would have gotten screwed unless he put in a prenup but still I’m sure the legal battles and things like house would have still been an issue.

The lady was clearly in it for the money (my FIL was not a millionaire but it was a good chunk of change). When he got bad and lived with us she barely visited and when he went home to live our his last year at home with hospice she amazingly didn’t visit and didn’t go to the funeral in her home town (they knew each other).

My wife’s best friend is going through this now. Her dad, who owns a business and is a multi-millionaire just married a woman who is 100% out for the money and didn’t do a prenup. He’s got her by decades. He completely screwed his kids. They all do well for themselves but when he dies they are 100% screwed. I hope they get something in place before he passes.

This is the worst assumption about any topic ever. How do you come up with this stuff?

 
My Dad died over 10 years ago, and my mom started seeing a guy maybe 2 years ago. Hes a few years older than my mom. He’s not rich, but very comfortable, as is my mother.

My mom (75) went out of her way to assure his daughter that she will NEVER marry him or anyone else for that matter. She doesn’t need or want his money, plus she would lose her Tricare if she were to get married 🤣

You hear so many horror stories about women marrying old dudes for $$$, I was proud of my mom for setting that woman’s mind at ease and not bein a terrible person.

BTW, this topic of people bilking families out of inheritance should really have its own thread.

That is nice of her. Carole made it very clear that everything was hers now and she has no intention of giving us anything including the 1970s era ceramics my grandmother made that she didn’t want a year ago. But I will start a new thread if someone hasn’t already. I don’t want to continue hijacking this one. Poor guy is lonely enough, doesn’t need us ignoring him.

Funny thing is, I saw the username and thought, "That sounds familiar.  I should have something in my notebook about that."  But the avatar didn't add up.

Geez, that might explain why so many online dating profiles of women list a desired age range that's from their age to sometimes 20 years old.   I found it odd that so many women were looking to date men significantly older, but not even just a few years younger.
