Sit Reggie Wayne? (1 Viewer)

It is what it is said:

There just isn't a bigger sample size to fairly work with.
Sure there is, let's just go back three years as opposed to two. It really doesn't matter much since the Jags have had a starting CB change all of these years to go along with CB Rashean Mathis. Deon Grant came over in '04 which was a factor in helping out the Jags pass d...but still the constant changing at the CB position makes it difficult to determine when the cutoff point should be in soley judging Wayne's stats as you are doing. Marcus Stroud, John Henderson and that strong run D has obviously been there for the past three years ('03-'05), Mike Peterson was obviously a huge addition to the linebacking corps when he was signed away from the Colts (addition by subtraction factor here too for Jags). Leftwich and Taylor were there for the offense, along with WR Jimmy Smith of course. Can see no reason why Wayne stat comparison should not go back 3 years. Including Wayne's '03 numbers vs the Jaguars changes things quite a bit from a stat perspective...
Ofcourse you can go back further, but 3 years in the NFL is a lifetime. There are so many changes that happen. Like another poster said, it is difficult to even attempt to make predictions on a yearly basis. So, based on nearly everyone's responses here weekly matchups just don't really matter for #2WRs?

Again keep in mind Wayne is the #2 on his team and last year was only 21st ppg at his position. Does he get too much credit from us?

It seems like I must be the only person who has a possible better play then Wayne this week.In a 3 WR league, its nearly impossible to bench Wayne. In a league that only plays 2 WRs or uses a flex spot, then this might be a week to try somebody who has been productive from the bench. I am fortunate enough to have Coles burning a hole on my bench and might give him a shot (if he is healthy).

On a week to week basis, I agree it is nearly impossible to really predict stats- especially the TDs. I am just showing that there is a little trend developing. Is this trend because something Jax does? Or is it an anomaly?
According to the numbers that Chase ran that I posted earlier in the thread, the odds are incredibly good that it's just an anomoly.Think of it this way- let's say you have a 3-sided coin (i.e. bad, average, good). The odds of it coming up "bad" or "average" over any particular 4-flip split are nearly 20%... so the fact that Reggie Wayne has had a bad or average game against Jacksonville 4 times in the last two years are fantastic just based on random fluctuation.

Bryant, Coles, and Driver all seem to be good plays over Driver. I would still be a bit hesitant to plug Housh into my lineup at this point. I would wait and see on him. As for Portis, what is his status? He makes me nervous.

The Colts will not be able to run this week, Manning could throw 40 times.

There will be some stats to be had.

Reggie had another very low-end good game with 8 points (standard scoring). I don't think that really proves anything one way or another.

Those that mentioned starting Portis, Reggie Brown, Housh or Donald Driver over Mr. Wayne were rewarded.

Bryant and Coles came just 1 point short of Reggie.

OK... new week, new question: with the recent events surrounding him what do you do with him this weekend? is he good-to-go for the game ball or does he sit home?

If he's going to play, I'm going to start him. I can absorb a bad week if I have to, but too many times I've seen an emotionally distraught athlete turn in a positively inspired performance (Tiger Woods and Brett Favre come most recently to mind). If Wayne plays, I really wouldn't be surprised to see him go 0/0/0, or 17/265/3. Well, okay, 17/265/3 would surprise me, but not that much.

Colts | Wayne "will definitely" play this Sunday

Published Fri Sep 29 9:02:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) John Oehser, of Colts.com, reports Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (personal) spoke to the media Friday, Sept. 29, for the first time since returning to Indianapolis. "Whenever I'm around this team, it's always good to be around. There are great guys on this team. I'm just happy to be around them." When asked whether or not he would be playing this weekend, Wayne said, "This is what I love to do. I love to play football. So, whenever I'm smelling football, I'm happy. . . . I'm ready to go. I feel good. I'm just anxious to get out there on the field in New York and play the Jets."

I am playing Wayne for sure, but Greg Jennings is a real intriguing option against Philly on Monday night. Anyone feeling risky? How long before Jennings becomes a #2 option?

Guys, if there is one thing I am sure of it is Rollin' with Reggie this weekend! I am not looking to capitalize on the extremely unfortunate situation with Reggie losing his brother and I am genuinely sorry for his loss. However, I would fully expect Dungy and Manning to call Reggie's number numerous times on Sunday to get him the ball and ultimately get him a gameball for his efforts this week. You can be sure that Reggie will be playing with extra enthusiasm thinking of his brother this weekend and the Colts will be trying to help him feel a little better about things, if just for three hours, by calling his number this Sunday.

Wayne vs. Jets = 135 yds / 2 TD's

Book it!
