Even if we see Jones with less than a full workload, I don't trust that Kelley will get a RB1 share of carries. Gruden offered that Robert Kelley would take over the lead role if Jones is unable to go: “If Matt has an issue where he can’t go, it would be Robert in the lead role, more likely,” Gruden said. “Chris [Thompson] has such an important role as far as third downs and his specialty role that we need him in that role, and he’s not a very big guy. We don’t want to give him the ball 35 times between the tackles, you know? We’d like to have a more physical guy do that.” Nevertheless, I believe Chris Thompson could have a Jacquizz Rodgers-like statline if Jones is out. Gruden is not going to use Thompson as a battering ram between the tackles, so Kelley would see an uptick in his carries, especially in short-yardage situations. However, Thompson, IMO, is both the more talented runner and more talented receiver. We have seen the likes of Theo Riddick and Jacquizz Rodgers have success this season, despite their diminutive statures, and Green Bay even looked to Ty Montgomery as its lead back last week. Thompson had 12 carries for 73 yards and 7 rec. for 40 yards last week at Detroit (compared to 4 carries for 15 yards and 1 rec. for a 1 yard TD for Kelley). Look for Thompson's touches to increase if Jones is out.

I think there's a really good chance Kelley gets the nod this week with Jones sitting out again, Jones doesn't seem particularly close. This is actually a nice opportunity for Kelley, maybe he does enough to really challenge Jones. Despite running well, Jones was trending down before the injury due to his fumbling issues.
As I mentioned before however, WAS goes on bye next week and comes out of the bye with probably the worst stretch of RB match-ups (MIN, GB, DAL, ARI) possible. Seriously, there is no worse 4 game stretch. Outside of Thompson in PPR, I don't expect there to be much value in this backfield in the mid-term.
Here's how the backfield has broken down so far this season. You'll notice the RB snap percentages exceed 100%, this is because WAS lines Kelley up at fullback (this is actually how he caught his first TD).

As I mentioned, CIN has been quite susceptible to inside rushers over recent weeks. Zeke dropped a 15/134/2 stat line on them, Blount 13/50/1 and Crow 12/63/1. The NE and CLE backfields also profile very similarly to WAS'.
For Kelley, I think we can expect something like 50-60% of the snaps and 12-15 touches with possibility for more depending on gameflow. Seeing as how 6 teams are on bye and the position is pretty shallow, I could see Kelley being treated like a RB2 in standard and a flex in PPR. Really, what you're hoping for is a stat line that mirror's Blount's/Crow's.

Looks like Jones is out this week... At least they added an RB to the roster.
You know, Jones has run hard this year and has actually impressed me. Coming into this year, I was very skeptical of him, because 1.) he fumbled WAY too much and 2.) he just had to many "no yardage" runs vs. a back who could make something out of nothing. Starting with the end of the Giants game, when he started running hard, he was impressing me again.
But if his fumble problem comes back again, that's going to be huge. This is a big test for Kelley. If he runs well vs. Cincy, Jones will become more expendible if he can't hold on to the football.
Those who picked Kelley up may get more than a one game bump from him, but we'll see, so shouldn't take a roster spot if you really need it for something else...this team still may use 3 RBs all year...

Admittedly I haven't watched a lot of Redskins games this year, but when I have Thompson always seems to flash on screen. If you owned both Thompson and Kelley who is the better play? My initial assumption is Thompson will get more touches but Kelley has the opportunity for the touchdowns
Thompson I think has more upside but he is brittle and they know it. He will not be out there pounding it between the tackles. Still, game script will will lean in Thompson direction this week. I am hoping Fat Rob gets like 60 yds and a TD so I can flip him to an owner in my keeper league for WR help.

Initially picked him up just to keep him from my opponent who is hurting big time at RB, but I'm hoping maybe he flashes and ends up stealing the job. Gotta figure the Skins would love to replace Jones with someone who doesn't constantly fumble. This is a league where we keep 1 rookie each year so he could be valuable.

I love me some Fat Rob, but the skins just activated practice squad RB Mack Brown who looked like an absolute monster in preseason. Could be nothing. Or could make this a 3-headed rbbc. I have bye week issues and was leaning his fatness over Asiata until this news broke, but now I'm reconsidering.

Not going to act like I know how Washington is going to split carries, but generally activating someone off the practice squad just means that Jones is definitely out and they need a warm body. I'd be surprised if Kelley and Thompson didn't get the lion's share of work.

Nice tape for sure. Again I'm not gonna act like I know what Gruden is thinking, but if they liked Brown better than Kelley, he would be getting the start on Sunday. I understand your worry though and while I own him I would be weary to start him this week as well.

as many as would give up the number 2-3 (depending on your league) qb for a no-name, third string rb who hasn't done a dang thing who may play a little this week but is essentially backing up a rb without a severe injury that is averaging 4.6 ypc

Dude you're trying to trade a backup RB when the primary guy has done a decent job this year. The primary guy has an injury and there is no knowledge that it will be a long-term injury. And you would to combine the backup with some pieces to get a top 3 QB? Good luck.

To alleviate your concerns, the other 31 teams in the league could have signed Mack away from the Redskins. Generally if someone blows up in the preseason there is concern that the other teams would notice and they wouldn't be able to stash them on their PS anymore. The Redskins were still able to. It's not necessarily an indictment that Brown will never be successful, but other RB-needy teams have had an opportunity and didn't take it.

I can tell by your posts in here you have some shares of Matt Jones. Yes his ypc has been decent but the guy can't hold onto the ball. Regardless of his injury i don't see Jones finishing the year as the Redskins starter.

No, I don't own him. I soured on him last year. I actually picked up Kelley as a desperation play. But trying to trade Kelley because you think he's going to overtake the starting spot and then expecting top 3 QB returns on him is a little absurd.

Based on your comments on the McCoy thread, I'm not surprised. You might want to wait to see what Kelley does this week before embarrassing yourself by offering such a ridiculous offer. Unless your other pieces are the QB 4-5, plus something else and Kelley, you're expecting to rape the other guy. I'm not commenting any further on your trades as it doesn't represent even a percentage Kelley's true value.
