That's because they don't want the defense picking the ball up and giving the offense worse field position. The rules make sense. Defense can carry as far as they want, but it's where they first touched it. Unless it goes into the end zone. Then it's a touchback. That's not inconsistent, just a quirk. It has its impeccable logic to it.

Good luck finding a better QB at this point in the season.
And IRL this kid is incredibly talented and considering how badly stacked his situation is against him…..yeah he has been working miracles for the Chargers.

The sad part of what you are saying is that i feel like the Chargers have spent a lot of capital bringing in quality prospects on the OL, pretty sure when healthy they have graded out well.
How is a FO to overcome 3 of your best WRs out or constantly unavailable each and every week?
They need to clean house at WR, keep Ekeler but start building a plan for when he runs out of gas, RB shelf life short. Herbert is the best part of things there but he will get frusrated if they are in shambles towards the end of his rookie deal.
Herbert can be extended or start talking extension about the time they try and exercise his 5th year option, that always plays well(Murray-AZ).
Tua as well but i'll save that talk for after the season

It seems clear that they still don't totally trust Jimmy G, which is understandable. That is why kicking the FG late was the smart move, as if you go for it on 4th, Jimmy could always get a bug and throw a pick-6. Kick the FG and make Herbert have to score a TD in a minute with no timeouts to beat you.

Herbert is absolutely killing my team this year. I know it's not his fault, but damn if a whole lot of injuries on this team have tanked his stats. Lost another one due to not expanding upon last years numbers.
