Snowmageddon 2022 (4 Viewers)

Deblasio and the school chancellor are getting abused on local media here. Nor Eason for the schools to be open today... At about 8am it was really bad.
So don't send your kid in if you don't trust the weather.
Preliminary numbers are showing less than 25% attendance rate today.
I really thought it was alarmist of many to think that DeBlase would be an absolute disaster.

It's early, but consider me legitimately concerned. It's been a disaster, let's face it. The repeated snow issues, the now school issue, the garbage cleanup issue, the helping your bud out of jail issue...

And this is one freakin' month. Oye.
to be fair NYC schools very rarely close. Its only happened like 5 times in the past 15 years.
Alternate side parking has been canceled just about every day for the last 6 weeks, so I'm kinda happy wi him about that... However, I think it was lazy, stubborn, & stupid to announce schools would be open at 9pm last night. At about 8am this morning it was full on blizzard. Only a small minority actually went to school today, but if it was a normal group of attendance I think it would've been very dangerous.

I just check and the driveway is ALL ICED UP already! :hot: I smashed the snow removal guy's snowman to smithereens.

This belongs in the lose lose thread... Not for nothing, but your snow removal guy, removed all the snow... In most places it is supposed to snow again tonight and this dude sounds dependable so I bet he's back in the morning.

Yes, he is extremely dependable. I hear him plowing at 1am, at 2am, at 3am, at 4am...

You talk to him about the overplowing? He sounds like someone who cares about his business... If you asked him to just come one time, I'm sure he would.

I don't pay him so he must love snow removal.

Today was outrageous to me...

1. he LIED no other words or way around it, he LIED about the NWS 3 inch scenario as of last night, that was not part of their forecast, they were saying at best six inches before a flake fell. So either he's being fed bad intel or he's fibbing. He's lying or wrong, neither is good for a leader

2. he called school teachers today, in the least veiled manner possible, babysitters. We understand this is a function and reality for some but these are professionals educating your children, they deserve more respect from the damn mayor of the city

If he can't get the plowing right, you can start to wonder about his policy on the larger things. The little things are the big things, before you worry about all day kindergarten with your "babysitters", get the damn snow off the sidewalks and roads. I can't even imagine what its like in the outerboroughs, they were just barely passable before this.

Some of the comments out of him and the school chancellor were beyond ridiculous - "the kids have to come in for a hot meal, the kids are safer at school, etc, etc"

No, I don't think he can work Boston and NY on the same night.

I thought the school chancellor's comment this morning was in very poor taste. "Its a beautiful day outside" basically mocking every parent, teacher, and student

Worked from home today. Slow as hell because so was everyone else. Went out at 1 to shovel. Got done at 4. At 5 the plow put it all back at the end of my driveway. Got done shoveling that "small" amount by 7. Free and clear. Till it started snowing at 8:30. Another 5-8" expected tonight.

Yay.

So for the NYC people who didn't make it into Manhattan today, are you planning another snow day tomorrow?

This is the best winter ever.
No.
lol, I mean it's been colder than usual and we have gotten a lot of snow, but my day to day routine really only came to a haunt that one day when it was like -15. I get why it seems bad elsewhere, your cities aren't used to it and can't handle it, and I probably shouldn't laugh. But I am. Schools have closed way too often though, product of the afraid to get sued culture I guess.

Or the afraid to get criticized for a bus crashing culture. I think getting sued is the least of their worries.

The only thing worse in these weather threads than Southerners complaining about snow is a Midwesterner acting like a tough guy.

i don't mess with ice, I moved to ne ohio from nw ohio to get away from it. It's why I shouldn't laugh because those dealing with that problem. Sympathize. The ones just getting pummeled with snow and #####ing about the cold...they keep getting me to laugh. So everyone gets bunched together.

well, just about all kinds of #####ing and moaning irritates me, so it's less tough guy and more shut up and make the most of it.

Lots of snow for the DC area, these people can't hack it at all so they shut everything down and keep people off the roads. Not a lot of chaos like further south, but quite a few people died because of various weather related circumstances. Not really a situation to make light of, but emergency weather seems to bring the stupid out in people which can be entertaining I guess.

Glad to see the predictions for overnight were off. Only and inch or two of snow. Mid-30's today.

Get through this weekend and we're looking at upper 40's, almost 50 degrees next week. Hopefully the end is near.

Who didn't go to work today?
I left at lunch Tuesday. I may not make it in until Monday depending on how much warming we get late today/early tomorrow. I am working from home though.
Same here, but doing very little work. I don't bring my laptop home very often and forgot the power supply. My 'work' from home is noe limited to occasional e-mail checking.
Isn't that everyone's definition of work from home?

Makes my decision tough. It's still a freaking mess out there. I still have a wife due any day now. My train line is one of only a couple listed as "GOOD SERVICE," but of course that's now, and often changes in the blink of an eye.

So I'm left with the question of whether I stay home and live with the guilt of being a wuss for not making it into the office when at least some others will, or trekking out there into a mess of a day and not being around to help out my wife here (and worst case, her going into labor and me scrambling to get home in this mess, which will be a 1:30 proposition BEST case scenario, and with delays, likely more like 2hrs or more).

If we'd gotten another 6 inches overnight, it's an easy call. But with only the extra inch or two we got, tougher decision.

NC schools in my area are still closed today. Although talks of making it up on a Saturday?!?

My work is open today and the main roads are pretty clear. I saw 3 cars abandoned while making a morning coffee run.

Your wife is days away from delivering and this is an issue? I'm pretty sure the wuss card is cancelled in this situation. If you can effectively work from home, it should be a no brainer. Plus, haven't you been there a while, worked hard, and earned some goodwill among the C-Suite?

Yup. And nobody would give me grief about it, all of this is neurotic Otis. My wife thinks I'm nuts. As a young single man, I'd be blowing off work and not giving a crap. Old fat Otis is pretty intense about this stuff. :kicksrock:

I actually went in yesterday for the afternoon. Wasn't bad along 34th st coming home. The LIRR cancelled 14 of 114 trains, but everything else looks good to go. I'm just going in an hour late today. I can't work as effectively from home, so YMMV.

Already using the baby as an excuse? ;)

No one's going to say what you should do with the kid on the way but yesterday was barely bad enough to stay home, imo.

Is Nashville tn the only place in the country where it hasn't snowed all year? Please send us some of your snow. Just a little.

PA Turnpike is cooked. Never seen a massive accident like this. Miles of crashed tractor trailers and cars wedged between and under them etc. Hank if you had work today you may have passed it or be stuck in the westbound side?

It is one big sheet of ice out there today. Temps are to go to mid 40s though so hopefully most of it will melt. We ended up with about 8-9 inches best I can tell and various layers throughout. Pretty interesting to dig into it and see the different layers.

A-freakin-men brotha. I love the snow but hate the cold. And my love for snow is wearing thin. So ready for the first week of 50's and 60's with sun. When it hits 70 and sunny can't wait to take the Jeep top off.

a caveat... one sheet of ice except for the GIGANTIC puddles piling up by the driveways/crosswalks.
