Snowmageddon 2022 (3 Viewers)

Just got done with 2nd round of shoveling. Glad I went out yesterday, it would have really sucked doing the 10" of heavy, icy snow. I'll hit it again at about 4:00 today to clear off the last bit of slush and then put down some salt and I should be done.

Its starting to warm up and getting melty. Snowfall has stopped - I think we're done, now its a matter of getting the roads cleared. Also, school is cancelled for tomorrow.
Still calling for some possibly freezing rain to drop in. And there is a chance of more precip tomorrow.

Snow and sleet stopped for a bit. Shoveled again, then made a run up to the local Burger King to bring back some goodies, proceeded to stuff my face. Should be break even after all the shoveling.

The forecast I'm watching for this area (Waxhaw, Marvin) shows no precip after 2:00 today, and a high of 48 tomorrow. I may go into work tomorrow afternoon.

Agreed...we're done. The sun is coming out and all the snow/ice is now falling off the trees.

How would hear coils work? Wouldn't it turn to glare ice at some point?
If they turn the coils off before the driveway dries it could.
I guess it's hard to understand for me because here in Illinois it may not get above 32 for weeks on end. I would think that would get expensive, unless it gets so hot that it can evaporate in weather well below freezing.
Cousin says it's like radiant heat in the floor of your house. It doesn't have to be on long to get warmed up. Doesn't even take a long time to warm up. I don't think it has to be on all the time.

Yea, you turn it on before the snow comes and it keeps the pavement just above freezing for the duration of the storm. Plus my driveway is pitched pretty well to the street, so the water does not really have time to freeze on the driveway.

I dont think its something that you could do once the snow fell and had a few inches there. But I dont know, i've never seen it in action, but wouldn't mind trying it this winter.

People in my area seem to think the storm is over. As it turns back to snow, we're still going to get another 4-8" here in South Jersey on top of the 10-11" we already have. Still will make out much better than Philly and those western suburbs.

Today, I've pretty much just shoveled snow, drank beer, and waited to see who gets stuck and needs help getting out (townhouse neighborhood that's all up hill and covered in a foot plus of snow for about a third of a mile. no idea when/if snow plows are coming).

The Jeep, Hummer, Pilot and F150 made it out. The Escalade with the low profiles (or whatever the thin tires are called) didn't have much luck. We got him unstuck, but he didn't make it out of the neighborhood. Escape didn't make it. Hospital worker in a Prius tried, but wisely gave up.

Anybody else's dog refusing to take a ####?

Mine enjoys the snow, but hasn't gone 1 or 2 in over 24 hours now.

I had the Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires put on my BMW this past winter. It's like a tank in the snow. I feel bad for poor people in cars covered with duct tape. I really feel bad for people in cars that run on vegetable oil.

I spent 2 hours shoveling my Jeep out to hit the liquour store. Only to find out all the ones near me are closed. I HATE PENNSYLVSANIA

Same here. It has stopped outside for some time now, but the reports are 14-20" total in my area, which means another 2-8 on top of what we've already got.

Overall a non-event here in NYC. Lots of slushy and flooded intersections though.
A meteorologist here projected category 2 like low pressure system for NYC tonight. Not same winds as a hurricane, but 40-5mph creating a blizzard effect.
Still a winter storm warning for tonight, with "heavy snow" at times (along with the dreaded... dun dun dunnnnnn ...thundersnow).

Well I just went out to clean off my car. Since I live in apt that is as close as I get to shoveling.

This complex doesn't hire contractors to plow it. I live at the bottom of a hill. Steady grade to the top. I just watched it take 6 people 20 minutes to push a Honda to the top. And it's kind of slushy and snowy still. I am not getting out of here tomorrow morning after it refreezes tonight. It will be a skating rink.

We had to have received 10 from the first drop. Driving around at 10 am was a mess, but possible on the main roads. Coming back at 3 was not bad at all.

Weatherboy said another storm on saturday more substantial than they thought
wtf. Where?
"Data coming in this afternoon is suggesting that Saturday's snowstorm may be more significant than originally thought.

A new area of low pressure will swing through the Mid Atlantic and intensify, bringing more accumulating snow to portions of DE, NJ, PA, NY, CT, MA, RI, NH, and ME. The potential exists for several inches of snow throughout this region; snow would begin late tomorrow night and continue through the day Saturday.

Once the next batch of heavy snow from today's storm clears the region tonight, we will post a new snowfall forecast map for the Saturday storm."

Don't they face liability issues??

You face MORE liability if you clean it oddly enough.

Deblasio and the school chancellor are getting abused on local media here. Nor Eason for the schools to be open today... At about 8am it was really bad.

They don't do much at all. The only clean off they will do is around the mailbox area. The sidewalks will have to melt clean they won't be shoveled.

Up here- if you don't make the effort to clear walkways at your curb YOU can be held liable. I can't imagine landlords not taking care of this crap.

My Mom moved up from VA in November because she was on a waiting list to move into a garden apartment complex near me. Been living with me. She is supposed to move out and into there on Saturday...

Pffft- like that is gonna happen. :wall:

I'm curious how that works. The theory (even when I lived in Ohio) is that if you didn't clear things off completely so that it was safe you could be in big trouble. However, if you left it untouched it would be obvious that people proceeding were doing so knowing that it comes with the risk.

i am going to hunt down the plow guy and dump snow in his house. So I clean up snow today he plows one side of the street a few feet from the curb. So all my neigjbors acrossed the street barely have snow at the edges of their driveway. Tool bag is a good 10 feet away from the curb and there is a 3 ft wall of snow 6ft from my driveway... wth

Finally getting out of Charleston. 80 degrees projected for my golf round in So Cal on Sat. Can't wait. Don't know how you people do it.

It's 85 in orange county today. Downright hot.

I'll get my share of snow next week when I go up to Mammoth Mountain for a 4 day bender with 25 people celebrating my buddy's 40th.

Down here you can't hire anyone to do that. Local boys aren't going to invest in a plow only to use it once every five years. Plus it usually melts within a day. Only the gov't can afford to buy those toys and buildings for them to sit around.

LOL and the news teams interviewing people griping about the streets not being cleared. My favorite was "For what we pay in taxes the streets should be clear". Given that we're shedding teachers and they only make $30k a year to begin with, I can can see why the streets aren't pristine during a once in a decade type of strom. Then again, they may have a point, the dang city probably had the walks cleared at the NASCAR HOF and workers holding umbrellas over Richardson's new scoreboard.

Got a few inches of show here so far. Forecast says up to 1/4 inch of icing, then an additional 2 to 5 inches of snow overnight.

The snow removal guy was over zealous in keeping the driveway clean, and even built a snowman in front! He should have left the snow on the ground until the ice is all done. Now it's gonna turn into a skating rink. :hot:

So don't send your kid in if you don't trust the weather.
Preliminary numbers are showing less than 25% attendance rate today.
I really thought it was alarmist of many to think that DeBlase would be an absolute disaster.

It's early, but consider me legitimately concerned. It's been a disaster, let's face it. The repeated snow issues, the now school issue, the garbage cleanup issue, the helping your bud out of jail issue...

And this is one freakin' month. Oye.

Hey at least you guys dont have to deal with Antarctic condition 1...conditions:

http://m.wimp.com/antarcticaweather/

A woman staying at a research and weather station in Antarctica shows off what a Condition 1 snowstorm looks like by opening the door. The station's protocol forbids anyone from leaving during a Condition 1 snowstorm.

to be fair NYC schools very rarely close. Its only happened like 5 times in the past 15 years.
