Snowmageddon 2022 (3 Viewers)

Yeah, I'm DC.
Yeah, so for DC the main reason those temperatures and precip type might not be jiving up is because of how close you are to the boundary. Those temps you see forecasted are not set in stone. The models I've seen show the DC area starting as rain and changing over to a mix, then ending as snow. Again, the long duration of this storm will be the reason you'll most likely see a little of everything. But we are also still outside the window of using the more reliable short range models, which will allow forecasters to get a better idea of where that boundary will set up for the storm.
My point was I was looking at one source that wasn't reconciling with itself.

Just saw the latest for DC and Baltimore:

Winter Storm Warning in effect from 7 pm this evening to 6 pm EST Monday.

The National Weather Service in Baltimore Md/washington has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain, which is in effect from 7 pm this evening to 6 pm EST Monday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

Precipitation type: freezing rain, changing to sleet, and then heavy snow.

Accumulations: around one tenth inch ice, then 8 to 12 inches of snow.

Timing: Freezing rain and sleet will begin this evening with heavy snow late tonight through Monday.

Temperatures: dropping from the low 30s this evening to the mid 20s overnight, then low 20s through Monday.

Winds: north 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

Impacts: very hazardous travel this evening trough Monday. Affecting both the Monday morning and Monday afternoon peak commute hours. Power outages are possible with the combination of ice and heavy snow.

everything still shifted south. Philly is down to 6-8" while the southern jersey shore(AC, cape may) went from 2-4" yesterday now to 8-12". And it's no longer one giant storm instead broken up into a couple different waves of storms coming by. Either way it's still the suck.

I can live with 3-6... Just moved my car to the Monday side of the street with anticipation of alternate side parking being cancelled...

My neighborhood is like D-Day right now. It's chaos with everyone flocking to Trader Joes... So pathetic.

Blowing things out of proportion again in Nashville. I stopped by the store to get a couple things and it's slammed. :wall: When will these people ever learn?!?

Did my regular shopping at a Wegmans here in NOVA. Every register was open, each had a packer, and each like had 5 or six people in line. This was before noon. Obscene.

We are due here for 8-12. And then they are calling for "record cold" after. FUN!!! Our county builds in 15 days into the school year, we have used 11 so far. We are a bit west of the city (Loudoun Co.) and there are parts that don't get plowed real fast, so I wouldn't be shocked if we miss Monday and Tuesday.

You in Leesburg, Mr E?

Calling for 9-13" over here in the Valley

Be safe and stay warm, my friend.

I love that Leesburg built a bypass on Rte 7 then put traffic lights on it :loco: The bypass in friggin Playa Del Carmen in Mexico works more efficiently than Leesburg's

The good news is I will likely not be going anywhere tomorrow. The bad news is I will likely be stuck in a house with a half dozen screaming little kids (3 are mine). Ahhhh, the joys of Xbox! ;)

ETA: Since we live on the north side of downtown Leesburg, we rarely, if ever have to use the RT 7 bypass! The RT 15 bypass is better, but there are still lights.

Sounds, like you will get as much snow as us. Enjoy it out in the hills!

Enjoy the snow and ice guys. It's 73 here right now and I went to the golf range with my oldest earlier, the golf course was packed. Looks like we might get freezing rain tomorrow afternoon/night, which seems odd since it will be almost 60 during the day. Looks like we're getting flap's temp drop tomorrow afternoon. Still, as TIS mentioned above, the ground isn't close to freezing and it would shock me if the ground will get that cold that fast to go from a high of 58 to freezing rain.

The Canadian model (which has been almost completely accurate this year and used by a meteorologist I follow, Justin Berk) is calling for 10-14" from the Maryland/PA line down to DC. This is insane. I still have close to a foot of snow on the ground where it doesn't get much sun.

Raining here in Philly right now. I was outside today without a coat. I'm flummoxed that when I wake up tomorrow it may be a disaster.

Philly schools already closed. Something tells me this is going to be a big swing and a miss.

Justin Berk is kind of an idiot. He, like Foot's Forecast, calls for the maximum possible total with every storm. They're rarely right, but when they are, that's all anyone remembers.

Baltimore will get 6 or so inches, a little more south of here

I actually like Foot and think they're typically on point. They usually give a few options with their forecast along with the % chance of each.

Berk has been on the money all winter. It's more the model he follows than him, which is predicting 10-14.

I hope he's right, but I just don't see that much for Baltimore north. Then the temps crash, and it doesn't go above freezing again until some time Thursday

School systems shutting down now. The local weather guys says the cold front has moved further South so that Nova and DC are more in the crosshairs than Baltimore. Predicting 6 - 8 inches for the city with a big caveat depending on where the front ends up.

This has been the hardest winter I can recall since I moved to the upper midwest 15 years ago. That said, you can keep you climate. I can always bundle up for a run in sub-zero temperatures (even though I didn't today thanks to the wind). But I'll take my summers over yours.

Edit: For full disclosure, I actually enjoy our winters in what I admit is probably a somewhat perverse way. This one has just been a little too much.

Rain here in Memphis that's slipping into ice shortly. Word is 1-1.5" of ice topped by sleet and an inch or two of snow. Good times.

Oh that's really bad. That much ice will take down a ton of trees and power lines. There will be a LOT of people without power if you get that much ice. And hopefully nobody is dumb enough to drive in that.

I actually don't mind the summers at all. It isn't Florida, i.e. so muggy you can't go outside. I love the weather here, all year round. Winter is easy and often really nice, like today, gorgeous with kids playing their hearts out. Spring and Fall are perfect and Summers are nice. Sometimes it is a too hot to have fun in the late afternoon, but every night is usually perfect for cookouts/just having out. IMHO, being in a t-shirt and shorts makes any weather doable.

Freezing rain and sleeting like crazy here. This is gonna be a long freaking night. I may miss my first weather related day of work.

Woke up to freezing rain here about 30 minutes ago. Now it's sleeting and the radar shows the snow is just up the road a piece.

There's going to be a lot of annoyed people at work today. EVERYONE assumed we would be closed based on the forecast on Friday.

At least its bonus day :pickle:
