Because nobody wants to sit and watch the weather channel when it's average weather. So they've become all about hype for every storm and creating "entertainment" to fill in everything else.Yes I know theyre awful. Why?
It's a guessing game and they want to generate the highest ratings and make the most money possible.Yes I know theyre awful. Why?
My point was I was looking at one source that wasn't reconciling with itself.Yeah, so for DC the main reason those temperatures and precip type might not be jiving up is because of how close you are to the boundary. Those temps you see forecasted are not set in stone. The models I've seen show the DC area starting as rain and changing over to a mix, then ending as snow. Again, the long duration of this storm will be the reason you'll most likely see a little of everything. But we are also still outside the window of using the more reliable short range models, which will allow forecasters to get a better idea of where that boundary will set up for the storm.Yeah, I'm DC.
gotta be two days ahead of these storms.James Daulton said:Made the mistake of "dropping by" the grocery store yesterday to grab some risotto. Big mistake.

You in Leesburg, Mr E?Did my regular shopping at a Wegmans here in NOVA. Every register was open, each had a packer, and each like had 5 or six people in line. This was before noon. Obscene.
We are due here for 8-12. And then they are calling for "record cold" after. FUN!!! Our county builds in 15 days into the school year, we have used 11 so far. We are a bit west of the city (Loudoun Co.) and there are parts that don't get plowed real fast, so I wouldn't be shocked if we miss Monday and Tuesday.

The bypass in friggin Playa Del Carmen in Mexico works more efficiently than Leesburg'sThe good news is I will likely not be going anywhere tomorrow. The bad news is I will likely be stuck in a house with a half dozen screaming little kids (3 are mine). I love that Leesburg built a bypass on Rte 7 then put traffic lights on itThe bypass in friggin Playa Del Carmen in Mexico works more efficiently than Leesburg's
Raining here in Philly right now. I was outside today without a coat. I'm flummoxed that when I wake up tomorrow it may be a disaster. The Canadian model (which has been almost completely accurate this year and used by a meteorologist I follow, Justin Berk) is calling for 10-14" from the Maryland/PA line down to DC. This is insane. I still have close to a foot of snow on the ground where it doesn't get much sun.

Something tells me this is going to be a big swing and a miss.Justin Berk is kind of an idiot. He, like Foot's Forecast, calls for the maximum possible total with every storm. They're rarely right, but when they are, that's all anyone remembers. The Canadian model (which has been almost completely accurate this year and used by a meteorologist I follow, Justin Berk) is calling for 10-14" from the Maryland/PA line down to DC. I actually like Foot and think they're typically on point. They usually give a few options with their forecast along with the % chance of each.Justin Berk is kind of an idiot. Baltimore will get 6 or so inches, a little more south of here
Berk has been on the money all winter. It's more the model he follows than him, which is predicting 10-14.I actually like Foot and think they're typically on point. This has been the hardest winter I can recall since I moved to the upper midwest 15 years ago. That said, you can keep you climate. I can always bundle up for a run in sub-zero temperatures (even though I didn't today thanks to the wind). But I'll take my summers over yours.Enjoy the snow and ice guys. It's 73 here right now and I went to the golf range with my oldest earlier, the golf course was packed. Looks like we might get freezing rain tomorrow afternoon/night, which seems odd since it will be almost 60 during the day. Looks like we're getting flap's temp drop tomorrow afternoon. Still, as TIS mentioned above, the ground isn't close to freezing and it would shock me if the ground will get that cold that fast to go from a high of 58 to freezing rain.
Oh that's really bad. That much ice will take down a ton of trees and power lines. There will be a LOT of people without power if you get that much ice. And hopefully nobody is dumb enough to drive in that.Rain here in Memphis that's slipping into ice shortly. Word is 1-1.5" of ice topped by sleet and an inch or two of snow. Good times.
I actually don't mind the summers at all. It isn't Florida, i.e. so muggy you can't go outside. I love the weather here, all year round. Winter is easy and often really nice, like today, gorgeous with kids playing their hearts out. Spring and Fall are perfect and Summers are nice. Sometimes it is a too hot to have fun in the late afternoon, but every night is usually perfect for cookouts/just having out. IMHO, being in a t-shirt and shorts makes any weather doable. This has been the hardest winter I can recall since I moved to the upper midwest 15 years ago. That said, you can keep you climate. Edit: For full disclosure, I actually enjoy our winters in what I admit is probably a somewhat perverse way. This one has just been a little too much.
Woke up to freezing rain here about 30 minutes ago. Now it's sleeting and the radar shows the snow is just up the road a piece.Freezing rain and sleeting like crazy here. This is gonna be a long freaking night. I may miss my first weather related day of work.
