The cutoff is insane! I said before that some counties will see 2 feet in the south and nothing in the north. Same freaking county!

Come on, Sheik. Don't scare the kids. The NAM has a reputation for putting out fantastical snow totals, and this is another example. What's crazy is that for once, the Euro and the GFS aren't that far behind.

You can check, the low, likely and high forecasts according to the National Weather Service. Keep in mind, though, that those totals are only through 7 p.m. Saturday and there's plenty more likely to come after that. And suddenly, the NAM totals don't seem quite as crazy as before (though still a little crazy).

You should be fine. Right now, it's looking like a start time in Baltimore of between 5 and 7 p.m. Add or subtract an hour for every 50 or 60 miles north or south.

Urgh. We've lost power in maybe 2/3 of the major storms since we moved to Baltimore in 2009 - once for more than 5 days. Both sets of next-door neighbors bought serious whole-house generators for around $7K after the 2010 snowstorms, but I figured we could spend lots of snow days in hotels for that kind of outlay. That was before we had a dog, which makes cutting and running a lot more difficult. Not sure what's the best play here...

I always find things like this funny, so I thought I'd share:
Weather is one of those things were if it doesn't happen in your backyard, then it didn't happen at all. I've always said, including multiple times in this thread over the years, that people will complain about weathermen being wrong because "it didn't rain at my house" even though it rained in the region. People will watch the news, see a report that says "chance of showers" and it could rain every where but their place. And they'll be on social media railing against the idiot meteorologists. Always happens. I find it kind of funny.
But the best thing I saw today is people talking about how the media hyped this storm as "an historic storm" and now they're not even getting 3 inches!!!! "What a joke!

I'm in Towson. We had no power for a week after the derecho. Bought a mini-generator right before Sandy. Used it for one night, and we haven't lost power since.

Catonsville, but somewhat back in the woods. There are only like 5 houses on whatever electrical line is causing the problems, so we're almost always one of the last folks to get fixed. Whenever there's an outage, we make a game of watching all the dots on BGE's power outage page disappear while our little "<10 families affected" dot burns brightly.

I got a whole-house Genrac after the derecho. That was the 2nd time that year I'd lost a fridge full of food. I figured it would never pay for itself, but I like peace of mind. It's come on a few times since, but not for more than a few hours at most. I'm glad I have it when stuff like this storm is coming, though (watch me have jinxed it and the damned thing won't work now).

Heaviest stuff looks to be Saturday from about 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Maybe a foot falls during that time? That would be 2" of snow per hour with high winds.
Wherever you go to sleep Friday is definitely where you're going to wake up Sunday. And maybe Monday, unless you have snowshoes.

GFS really scaled back for SE PA. Hopefully that's not a trend. Although, it's hard to complain that we "only" got a foot of snow.

My first experience in Virginia. Grew up in New England and used to have a 60 minute commute along the Mass Pike which included some very heavy snows. If you know how to drive in it safely, it's never a big deal. So I'm officially worried about how the South handles things.

I don't think the problem was all on the drivers tonight. They didn't pretreat the roads at all. My main obstacle tonight was a bus that got stuck, blocking two lanes on 395 and backing up traffic behind it.
