Snow was a big driver in my decision to leave Boston for Denver. I'm watching this storm closely to see what I'm missing. And I have two ex-wives back there who have to do their own shoveling!Boston is supposed to get hammered. Ive heard everything from 6" to 18" here in NYC.

When it snows in Boston, it sticks around until April. here in DEnver, it's all gone in a few days. And I'm not sure I believe your numbers, either. So far this year, Denver has only had a couple "storms", one for about 3" and the other for 5".There isn't snow in Denver?
Denver averages 60.2 inches of snow per year. Boston averages 48.1 inches of snow per year

This has been a off year so far. The first snow is usually before Halloween. It only takes one or two 30"ers in March to change that. But you are correct snow usually melts quickly with sun and Chinooks. When it snows in Boston, it sticks around until April. here in DEnver, it's all gone in a few days. Denver gets more snow than Boston. I was confused about the comment also. When it snows in Boston, it sticks around until April. here in DEnver, it's all gone in a few days. Yeah, after a little more research, I see that Denver does get more snow than Boston. Still, I expect winters here to be considerably milder than in Boston. Finally... I just have a walkway and my share of the sidewalk to shovel here. No driveway.Denver gets more snow than Boston. I was confused about the comment also.
Winters are milder then most people think. I moved here from Kansas. Everyone said you're going to hate the winters. In Kansas I wore insulated coveralls almost ever day. Here I worn them about 3 days a winter.Yeah, after a little more research, I see that Denver does get more snow than Boston. Still, I expect winters here to be considerably milder than in Boston. Just don't drive anywhere and as long as you keep power you'll be fine. Quantity won't be an issue outside maybe the cape and east long island. Impact is gonna be something fierce though. Big hourly snow fall rates and high winds. Gonna be a mess outside of anyone's home. Hope your town has the infrastructure to clean it up asap.yea these forecasts are all over the place. im just hoping for less than a foot. but i have the snowblower on deck just in case.
It’s been an unseasonably dry winter in Denver. When it snows in Boston, it sticks around until April. here in DEnver, it's all gone in a few days. And I'm not sure I believe your numbers, either. So far this year, Denver has only had a couple "storms", one for about 3" and the other for 5".
No snow, but it certainly won’t be warm the next few days.Good time for a trip to Florida. Thankfully I have someone plow my driveway and if needed, they will do my walks as well for no extra charge (I usually do that myself.)
In Miami, it might get as cold as 39 tomorrow morning which will stun invasive and annoying cold-blooded Iguanas with many falling from trees but not dying. It's legal to kill them but it must be done humanely. The meat supposedly tastes like greasy chicken. No snow, but it certainly won’t be warm the next few days.
Love seeing those things fall out of trees. It’s funny. Tampa area is gonna see at freezing of below the next few nights. I don’t miss this wind at all. The cold I’m fine with.In Miami, it might get as cold as 39 tomorrow morning which will stun invasive and annoying cold-blooded Iguanas with many falling from trees but not dying. Temperatures and iguanas are dropping across South Florida
Money well spent there.3 kids came by my house asking if we wanted them to shovel: this never happens! I was like oh hell yes!
Dude for real. For years i haven’t seen kids do this. I used to love snow days so i could make some money for video games. Nowadays not so much. Told them come back next time!!!Money well spent there.
Hold on.... am I misreading this? Sounds like your reaction when they first showed up was "oh hell yes". When did you tell them to come back next time... before or after paying them?Dude for real. Huh? I was happy they came and had them shovel and then told them to come by next time it snows.johnnycakes said:Hold on.... am I misreading this? Sounds like your reaction when they first showed up was "oh hell yes". When did you tell them to come back next time... before or after paying them?
Which place around here that's gonna get messed up isn't yet known, but we still have over a foot of snow on the ground...are then going to get about 6-10 hours of rain (so, water everywhere cause drains are clogged from the snow)...followed by about 4-6 hours of ice on top of the water soaked surfaces...followed by 12-18 hours of snow (most of which at 1" per hour rates) on top of all that ice...then the temps are gonna bottom out for 2 days after - freezing the wet heavy snow that falls on top of all that ice.Supposed to be the biggest winter storm in a few years starting tonight here in the Midwest. Continuing until Thursday. Schools already closed tomorrow. Let's see if it's as bad as they are saying.
This could shape up to be disastrous for a lot of people over a large area.Which place around here that's gonna get messed up isn't yet known, but we still have over a foot of snow on the ground...are then going to get about 6-10 hours of rain (so, water everywhere cause drains are clogged from the snow)...followed by about 4-6 hours of ice on top of the water soaked surfaces...followed by 12-18 hours of snow (most of which at 1" per hour rates) on top of all that ice...then the temps are gonna bottom out for 2 days after - freezing the wet heavy snow that falls on top of all that ice.
Whoever ends up closest to the ice/snow line may be shut-in until the weekend, especially if it's rural.
Much like NE Ohio, completely depends where you are in relation to the transition line. On or above it are terrible places to be with this one. Below it should not be a problem unless the water it leaves behind freezes when the cold air arrives on the other side of this storm. So just rain in the north east?
They’ve already issued their warning about iguanas falling from trees due to the cold immobilizing them.
