Solar Panels buyers remorse (1 Viewer)

Is there a better feeling than getting a product that over delivers? These panels consistently deliver 440w when it's sunny; only rated at 400. It's not supposed to be that good!

Have you ever bought an Alpine amp for your car? All Alpines carry a certain rating, an advertised wattage. But once you get it home and open the box there's a little, handwritten certificate in there that declares the test-wattage of that specific amp. They test each one individually before putting it in the box, and often you get one that's rated over the advertised wattage on the box.

It's much like that, and it's crazy that these two different products over deliver on wattage - of all things - and in two different industries full of knock-offs and otherwise ****ty products & salesmen! Makes you feel like a genius when you get it right.
i agree brochacho several times i have gotten a pack of beef sticks that had an extra stick and it makes my whole week take that to the bank

Our solar panels and power walls just paid for themselves big time. We lost all electric and connections. We never lost AC or the food in the fridge or anything else.

No buyer's remorse here.
They push generators for homeowners here in Florida, we see some solar panels but more folks seem to buy big generators.
Glad you and you're family are doing well.

That is something that is pretty awesome about solar and the battery banks. I have a conventional generac whole house generator. Power goes out and it takes 10 seconds for the thing to fire up. I bought a ups for the router because I didn't like losing the internet and having to reconnect. 🤣Look at me with my first world problems!

For those who live in Florida, Southern Texas, anywhere around the Gulf of Mexico, it's the humidity much of the time that drives the feeling of it being hot inside the house.
We own 2 dehumidifiers and I run them a lot during the warmer months to take some of the humidity our of the air in here. It doesn't take very long for them to fill up with water

I like it around 75, and I have to be honest, after the weight loss I tend to get a little colder more easily, with the dehumidifiers running, 75 is pretty cool vs 92 outside
Mrs likes it more 72, I like it a little cooler at night to fall asleep.

If you have a 2.500-3,000+ sq ft home in Florida and run your AC at 70...yeah you're gonna run a $500 AC bill
Also because we now work in the house most of the time, you're going to run the AC more when you are home.

I could see solar panels being part of the overhead or tax write offs for work/business, that's gotta be on the table when you think about implementing these on to your property.
I know whenever we decide to buy a SFR in the "Sinkhole Alley" section of Florida  definitely going to have a couple acres and a specific section of the property to put these in.

Do you save money doing it? Maybe, maybe not but I respect and understand why folks try and do this. Sounds like it is working well for some of you.

You still have internet? Haven't lost power in awhile, but I know at least at one point that if you don't have power at the pole you also didn't have internet. I think there's a switch that needs power somewhere in the neighborhood. Maybe that's changed.

One of the best improvements I ever made was installing a whole house fan in each bedroom. At night when its cooler outside, you open a window next to the bed and the fan which is situated on the other side of the bed in the ceiling pulls in the cool air through the window, across the bed and up into the attic. Feels like you're at the beach. Gets so cold that I decided to install a thermostat in each room as well to turn it off.

Usually we still have internet (via the cable company) when the power goes out. It goes out a lot around here: 2-4 times per year. We did have an annoying outage last year where internet, cable and cell service were all down. I assume the local cell tower was in the outage area. That was brutal.

For a few hours, we had nothing. Normally if the power is out, we still have internet. Otherwise, Mr R can still work remotely by setting up a hot spot. That also didn't work. He actually had to go in to work. Weird.

We recently had an attic fan installed for our small summer cottage. We love it. We run it on high for an hour in the evening (with just bedroom windows open) to cool things down and then let it run on low for 2 or 4 hours via the built in timer when we go to sleep.

Sounds nice but right now it "cools" down to a humid 80+ at midnight so that's a no go in our house. Probably would work well in cooler months though.
