I agree with this to a point but I would add if you have a contrarian view you will be ridiculed. There have been some good posters that have had some legendary hits on players that don't post here anymore for this very reason. If the forum police would come to the rescue of the contrarians like they have the posters in here that were wrong today......well we might have a lot better forum. I'll chill out the rest of the day though. I've made my point.

I'd like to see a civilized discussion of what might happen with Ware if Charles comes back to relatively good health, especially after Ware's spectacular performance today. I'd like to think Ware stays in the lead role because I have trouble imagining Charles being his old self at this stage of his career.

Of course he's not going to average 200 yards per game (lol), but it's going to take a LOT for him to not produce. His floor is ridiculously high. Ahead: Chiefs run and Ware just pounds on anyone he faces. Behind: Smith dumps it off to him and he gallops for yardage. And goal line? That'll be 6 points, lock it up.

IIRC, people have pointed out Reid doesn't do RBBC. If Charles picks up where he left off last year, what does Reid do?  Ware was excellent today and seemed to get better as the game progressed. But Charles is a HOF-caliber player.  Is it possible for the Chiefs to have two high producing RBs?  Maybe they both play?  I remember Charles splitting out wide many a time. 

We just have to wait for Charles to step foot on the field to see if he's still got "it."

There was a pretty good report on how he worked silly hard in the off season to get better as a receiver, he felt it was essential for playing time in Reid's offense...I've never quite seen a turnaround that large in the 1st game.

-mild point I would like to make...dude plays on a team that doesn't really have "elite" talent at WR and TE, it's not bad but it's not untouchable by any means, some of that has to do with a pretty weak arm QB but Ware helped that passing game today so even if Charles comes in and handles 10-15 carries/touches a game, Ware has to factor into the passing game right now, KC needs the help. 

I am not naive though, Charles is going to be given a good chance to return. I hope Ware made an impression today on Reid, feels like he knows what he has but is slow to reveal his true thoughts. Honestly, he's motivating Ware to not get comfy.

I think I like KC here.  They really seemed to hit another level in the 2nd half today and if they carry that over, they can beat that Houston team that beat up on the crappy bears.

 While I like Ware, in that deep of a league I would see if you can get something more "dependable" long term. It looks like in a matter of weeks it will be a Jamaal Charles/Charcandrick West/Spencer Ware scenario you may not want any part of.

Before the game, I put Ware into both lineups where I had him. I wasn't sure it was the right move. Just read he was warming up with the starters. I was kind of guessing, and I guessed right.

By way of contrast, I was almost positive you were the kind of person who called people "bro," and not ironically. 

Two-for-two. This might be my year after all... :)

 
I found it eye-opening that the Chiefs increased the usage of Ware after they trailed 21-3. That kind of a deficit usually turns game flow away from FF RB production. It's really not a surprise but week one sold me that this guy is going to be a huge part of the KC offense.

He's a weapon, and will likely sustain RB2 numbers in the event Charles returns to full strength.  There were several packages with Ware and West on the field at the same time.  They will do the same with Charles and Ware.  Ware will likely see short yardage and red zone work as well.  He looked fantastic.  Fluid in all aspects of the position. 

 
Started Ware over Demarco Murray and Matt Forte. Almost wavered though when I started hearing about West being atop the depth chart. My faith in Coach Otis screeeeeeeeeeeeech kept me from goofing up.

The question is of course...now what?

A. Trade him to the Jamaal Charles Owner

B. Make an offer for Jamaal Charles

C. Do Nothing and Sit Pretty

D. Offer him around the League for a Stud WR/TE

Leaning CBAD right now

 
Ware is a tough sell right now.  He is perceived to have a short shelf life as his value drops significantly when Charles come back.  So nobody is going to pay much for a couple week rental.  Owners of Ware cant sell low because there is a non-zero percent chance that Charles doesn't come back soon or at all and then they have a top RB1.  Combine that with its too early in the season for teams to be desperate cause 0 and 1 isn't the end of the world.  By the time a team is 0-3 and looking to make a deal, we should have more clarity on Wares value going forward and you won't get any great steal from him.

I think you have to hold at this point unless you have a very antsy owner that has the perfect roster to make a deal.  Brandon Marshall seems like a good target this week if the owner has depth at WR.  He got 8 targets but didn't do much with them, he is obviously still part of the Jets plan, just had a dud day.

It just so happens that the Charles owner has Brandon Marshall and I was thinking the same thing.

I am not in your situation (I own both Charles and Ware in a couple of leagues), but if I had Marshall, I would not have any interest in trading for Ware (likely to be a short term solution for now or a longer term, part time solution down stream). I would be trading a WR1 (Marshall) for a time share RB2 (if Ware gets a split once Charles comes back). I wouldn't do that. Maybe your Charles owner thinks differently than I do (or is more desperate).

I am firmly in the "sit tight" boat. Also, I  don't want to derail this thread into a Jamaal Charles thread.

That being said, is now the time to grab Charles?  If you are the Ware owner?

I am not paying anywhere near what the Charles owner would want at this point.  The problem with both Ware and Charles is the unknown of Charles. Both sides see RB1 upside, but see RB2/3 time share production coming.  If you think Charles is coming back and will be the old Charles you should take advantage and go get him, but it won't be at a discount good enough to justify the risk.  If you own Ware you can't sell because you won't get enough value to compensate for the upside.

I am pessimistic on Charles and put the odds of him playing soon very low. I think there is a decent chance we have a Deon Lewis situation or worse.  As such I am holding Ware and have no interest in Charles. If we were to redraft today, I would consider Charles in the 9th or 10th round.

 
Here's a price update. 

In one of my dynasty leagues Ware + 3rd was traded for Melvin Gordon.  Based in the team, that's probably a high 3rd. 

 
I'm just going to sit tight on Ware.  Too valuable when he's in and give me a far greater chance to win in any week he plays with a good matchup. That being said, if the Charles owners comes correct with a big time WR in a package I'll listen.  But doubt it -  before week 1 he offered me Henry straight up.

That's interesting. Would think Henry side would be the favorite based on age alone.

 
When I heard the news on Ware & Charles I was expecting a great game or two from Ware and then a quagmire of who to sit/start unless one goes down for the season.  Makes for a great combo in best ball leagues, but a mess for regular leagues after Charles is active.

My plan for both players is to sit and hold until the situation is obvious as either is a gold mine, but it's a gamble either way.

Best way to max value is a 2 4 2 swap...

Ware(RB2) + Michael Floyd(WR3/4) for say Latavius Murray(RB1) + DeVante Parker(WR4?)...who wasn't even active for Week 1, his stock must be thru the floor. 

Pick another choice of players but pairing can sometimes land you something you actually want. I am probably holding Ware but a the same time I could use a shot in the arm at WR or TE.

Strong hold. I think I struck 8th round gold here! I was really impressed yesterday.

This is turning into quite the story for FF at RB. He looked ridiculous. He is going to be a big part of this team all year. I think Charles may have a tough time coming back to begin with, and by the time he returns....he very well may be a role player. Again...advanced age, lot's of wear on the tread, and everything seems to indicate that they have not liked how Charles has looked in practice. He is not running with confidence. Not planting and cutting like a confident RB. The mental edge might be tarnished after a second ACL injury. That is the toughest part in coming back. The confidence to plant and cut on the knee. It remains to be seen if he can make it back this time. 

Ware is the teams horse now and for the foreseeable future.
