Spencer Ware, possibly the new work horse (1 Viewer)

In a contract league and have 48 hours after picking him up to decide whether to extend him. Not huge rosters though, and can’t cut if I do it.....if he’s a UFA I guess I’ll have to pass. I do remember him being pretty effective a couple of years back, but he’s obviously not as explosive as Hunt. Half the battle is opportunity though....

Any chance Leveon Bell is a Chief next season?
Sources close to Bell/PIT have said it's an "inevitability" that Bell lands on the Jets.

Bell has tweeted to Luck insinuating he would like to be a Colt.

This is all pre-Hunt release. I'm sure he would play for KC if there was mutual interest

So, here's the real question: What percentage of Hunt's fantasy production will Ware be able to muster?

70%?

80%?

90%?

I remember him being pretty solid before his injury, but he lost his job instantly to Hunt, so...

I think he lost his job because Hunt was very dynamic. A guy that's hard to sit. I think Ware will do very well. Hard to give a number.

Put it this way. Hunt had more upside because he's a much more dynamic player. But the offense is so good and ware is solid himself I see no reason he can't have a 20 point game here and there.

Absolutely about blowing out his knee. I guess I meant him not getting his job back after that.
Sorry, totally misunderstood you there.  Yeah -- after Hunt's 2017 and coming off a major injury Ware wasn't going to get his job back.

Having said... Ware's 4.7/11.6 career yards per match or beat Hunt's and the offense is much stronger overall than the last time Ware was starting.  No real reason he should miss a beat as long as Reid and Mahomes are still involved.

I wasn't very clear so that's my fault. And I hope youre right about him producing like Hunt. I think it'll be very close as well.

insane month for my dyno rb squad, on top of rb1 conner.

1 ware lands rb1 spot.

2 a jones ascends to rb1/2 status.

3 bell walks and will come in as rb1 next year.

Looking back, I made some ridiculously cheap offers to move Ware to the Hunt owners and all were rejected. Thank God for that.

Any chance Andy Reid uses this game as an example that the running back is totally interchangeable in this offense?  Maybe goes out of his way to get Ware more touches?  Sort of tries to justify the front office's decision to release Hunt by having Ware have a big game?  Okay, three questions, but whatever, it might happen.

While I’m sure mike at FFT would love this material, GB you’ve been here long enough to know this is the wrong forearm/thred for this

Some numbers from Rotoworld's breakdown:

The Chiefs waived Kareem Hunt Friday afternoon, vacating 88% of the team’s backfield carries and 55.5% of running back targets. Kansas City has been more than comfortable using Spencer Ware in two- and four-minute drills throughout the year, so he’ll presumably get the first crack at this entire backfield to himself. Having run 98 routes to Damien Williams’  24 so far this season, Ware’s passing-catching chops also means he has the safest floor of this bunch. It’s hard to imagine him failing in any format Sunday.
A way to paraphrase that last sentence = Ware’s passing-catching chops also means he has the safest floor every week. It’s hard to imagine him failing in any format period. Remember, Andy Reid usually has a bellcow back and then a passing back that usually doesn't play even 30% of the snaps barring a blowout. As long as he's healthy, he at worst should be a low-end RB1.

Everyone talking about what a great bellcow Ware is going to be needs to go back thru the KC gamethreads and read how every other week folks are complaining about Reid’s underusing his primary RB.

No other back getting a lot of snaps only translates to bellcow if the RB isn’t inexplicably left out of the game plan for quarters at a time.  Why would it be different with Ware?

This

I stumbled across the Hunt news when it broke and grabbed Ware in 3 leagues and was pretty excited about it.

Today I worry about the Andy Reid RB disappearing act and am struggling to bench anyone for him, especially in the the league I need a win and help to get in

I've thought about this

Ive also seen enough Andy over the yrs to wonder if he may just have Maholmes throw it 60 times

It's a quandary.

Normally I would agree, but this is Oakland. Plenty of RB yards to be had verses a team that has mailed it in and only hope is to not be embarrassed too bad by Mahommes and Co. I think Gruden doing all he can to slow the pass will give up 150 plus on the ground. JMO

This.  Reid spelled Ware heavily with West in 2016.  I know Ware missed 2 games, but I think Ware played 50% of snaps, and West had 35%.  Thats not RB1 potential.

Ware will be the bellcow initially, however in blowouts and as the season gets closer to the real playoffs expect the Williams duo to get more usage.

Gotta believe he will be the GL back though right?
Vegas seems to think so.  Bovada has him at +450 to be first touchdown scorer and -275 to be an anytime TD scorer.  Both odds better than Hill or Kelce.  The ONLY player with better odds on Bovada for a TD is Gurley.  Ware has better odds than the likes of Barkley, Jones, Mccaffrey, and Conner.

I guess we're probably seeing the impact of the Hunt situation.  Its gotta be affecting the whole team.  Hell, there could be a divided lockerroom.

Hunt he is not.  He looks awful compared to Hunt
Hunt looked awful as well his first three games of the year.  I’ll give ware another game or two before I write him off.  But I would agree that a 23 year old hunt is going to look better than ware who is older and hasn’t played much since his season ending injury two years ago.

True, but not sure how sold Reid is on Ware.

I think Williams gets more touches going forward.

12.2 in 1 ppr, I'll take it

Could have been much better if they would have ran him more inside the 10.

Probably won't start him again

Game script was against him, plus it is not like they had a lot of time to prepare for the change. He'll be fine.
Agreed. It’s his first start in a long time, so he is not there yet. It’s not fair to judge him on this one game. Hunt didn’t do well in week 1 vs SD, by the way.

And I know it is playoff time, so I get it but if you have Ware, you most likely have a good RB to count on, if needed. Just my opinion of course.

Spencer Ware rushed 14 times for 47 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' Week 13 win over the Raiders, adding a five-yard reception.

Ware nearly did not find the end zone in his 2018 starting debut. He was stuffed on a 3rd-and-goal but managed to convert a direct-snap carry one play later. It required a second effort to get in. It was an otherwise disappointing day for a back many fantasy players had outsized expectations for. Speaking during the game, CBS sideline reporter Evan Washburn said Chiefs coach Andy Reid told him he would like to establish a three-man committee between Ware, Damien Williams and UDFA Darrel Williams. Reid also said he would like to use the short-passing game as an extension of the running game. In other words, Ware is not stepping into Kareem Hunt's old role. He will be a touchdown-dependent RB2 for Week 14 against the Ravens.
Spencer Ware - NOT the new Work Horse... :sadbanana:
