Stanton (not Orlovsky) could start for Lions week 6 (1 Viewer)

MLive.com reports that despite Jon Kitna (back) being downgraded to "out" for Week 6 Saturday, Dan Orlovsky is not a sure thing to start at Minnesota.Orlovsky (knee, ankle) is less than 100% and shared practice snaps with Drew Stanton all week. Since they are facing a ferocious Vikings front four, the Lions may end up opting for Stanton because he is more mobile than a banged up Orlovsky. Both Orlovsky and Stanton will likely be active, but the starter won't be known for sure until the first offensive snap. Source: MLive.com

Calvin's potential breakout season is quickly evaporating. Glad I traded him when his value was high a few weeks ago. I traded Calvin and DMAC for Gore

Who is to say Stanton won't be better than Kitna? He has the ability to make plays... it's not as if Kitna was tearing up the league.

only reason im gonna roll with calvin is they probably gonna be down all game and have to pass to catch up.

but calvin is special, he migh take a quick slant all the way to the house. Have to roll with my guy there.

Stanton has the best arm of anybody on the roster. He's very inexperienced. But he can make all the throws, unlike Kitna. CJ was never going to reach his full potential with Kitna behind center. It's time for the Lions to find out what they have with Stanton.

Stanton is going to get rolled by NFL defenses and disguise packages. It's going to be tough to use his arm when he keeps throwing picks to the other team. Name the last NFL rookie QB to have a good season.

Matt Ryan? And Stanton is not a rookie.
Drew is a virgin, he's seen preseaon, that's it. Vanilla defenses. And let me know when Matt Ryan has a full season. Matt Ryan has 5 games. 4 TD's and a 172.6 ypg avg with a 75 rating. Sorry I don't consider that "good." Calvin gets downgraded, Williams gets downgraded. They both need Kitna in the game.

:hophead: :D While it may be true Kitna wasn;t tearing up the league, to say "Who is to say Stanton won't be better than Kitna? " is hysterical. Nothing like a good early Sunday morning laugh to start the day off right. As a Lions homer I can say this...........they will not win a game. Seriously folks, this is as good of a chance as we have had in years for the NFL to have a winless team. Take a look at their schedule and find me a game they might win............

Wow. Anybody still keeping Calvin in their lineup?
Calvin is staying in for me over Holt and Cotchery. One of the TD's Cal had this year was a short little pass that he took all the way himself. I'm not expecting much (especially with his lingering knee issues) but I can't bring myself to sit him.

Brady was a "virgin" when he went in for Bledsoe. Romo did ok replacing Bledsoe. Rodgers is having an ok season. Big Ben did ok as a rookie.

Stanton is a playmaker. Personally, I wouldn't throw him at the Minnesota Vikings D unless there was no other choice...and there is, Orlovsky.

I'd start Stanton at home in a couple weeks, it's not like the Lions are trying to make the playoffs, there's no real rush. I stashed Stanton on my roster in the 1,000,000 league where you can start 2 QB's just in case. I know he's going to start and I think he's just as good as Kitna, definately better than Orlovsky.

as a Calvin owner, I just hope Stanton shows us something if he starts today. No, I don't expect a Romo or Brady type first game, but hopefully he gets rid of the ball faster than Kitna does, and knows where to throw the ball (Calvin)

They all had teams. Stanton has five pieces of Kleenex in front of him. The Lions best bet is the wildcat formation.Lions homer here as well.

Just giving a few recent examples of young, inexperienced qb's that have done ok. No doubt the Lions Oline isn't good but the skill players are pretty good. :potkettle:

If Orlovsky suits up, I think they give him the start.

Mike Furrey said of Orlovsky, "I think right now he is our QB going into Sunday, isn’t he? I mean, that’s how we’re looking at it. We’re getting ready to play with him."

"If I have a chance to start, I'll have to be dead not to," Orlovsky said. Coach Rod Marinelli echoed the sentiment, though he hasn't made an official choice between Orlovsky or Drew Stanton.

Stanton's only been healthy for a week. "I'm third on the depth chart right now. Dan's second," Stanton said. "So if he's ready to play, I'm sure he'll play."

Quick Update....

ESPN Radio is reporting that Drew Henson is dressing as QB 3

bleh.....I am looking at my Autographed #20 Jersey on my wall...Those were the days.

this thread isn't about winning. It's about whether we think that the rookie might put up some stats. I think he might, especially since they'll be down (CJ owner)

I'm glad I was able to give you a good laugh. Pop quiz hotshot... How many QBs have a worse QB rating than Kitna? Only six. 72.2 Rating - 5 Tds, 5 Ints, 15 sacks. With Roy and Calvin at QB, could Stanton equal that or be better? Sure... it's not out of reach. Stanton is also much more mobile and wont stand in the pocket and hold onto the ball. At least Orlovsky was getting rid of the ball dumping it out and checking down. Kitna was just standing back there. He wasn't playing well at all. I'm sure he will have his moments where he will look pretty bad. Once again, Kitna wasn't doing anything special. An if you take away game #1 stats, he's just slighty above 50 comp ratio, with a QB rating around 62.

I didn't know you got to "take away" games in the NFL. Very convenient.

I'm sorry that was too hard for you to understand. Players do lose their jobs and coaches do make switches in the lineup if a player is ineffective over several consecutive games which Kitna has been the last three games.

According to ESPN (Chris Mortenson), Orlovsky to start and Stanton to be the backup today.
Thanks for the update, but does anyone on this board think that either one has a good chance of success fantasywise. This offense is inept. Their WR's banged up. TE is nowhere. Lion's passing is in very bad shape. Is anyone really starting a player in this passing game? This includes CJ and RoyW.

The Vikings aren't great in pass defense, so it's possible the Lion skill players could have solid games. It seems like a lock that they will not be able to run the ball against the Vikings, since few do. A lot of pass attempts can make the most mediocre QB put up decent numbers.
