STAR WARS: Episode 7 (All-Time #1 opening box office.) (1 Viewer)

I guess it is impossible for us to stipulate that some people hated the prequels and some people liked them and that we should try and put a moratorium on the constant bashing of the prequels and just concentrate on the new movie?
I assume there aren't any elementary school kids on here, so it's safe to bash them.
The prequels were fine. They had some bad parts but they still added to the lore. A few better actors and some better dialogue and they enter the good to really good realm.
No
Yes. Deal with it.
:lmao:

I think it's time to remind everyone that my 5 year old LOVED the original trilogy and saw the prequel for the turds they were, demanding to watch Paw Patrol on Nick halfway through that bull#### TPM and refusing to watch the other two movies.
Pa-pa-pa-paw patrol...you're all good pups, and you save the daaay...

Thanks.

Trailer was  . I'm expecting this movie to be attack of the clones level bad. Hope I'm wrong.
 It's pretty much a franchise reboot with hardly none of the people that were responsible for the dreck of the prequels involved, why would you expect garbage?
Because we've been burned before. This is the 7th movie in the series and I'm not sure there's really anything that's left unexplored in the universe. Also, I thought Abrams star trek was crap. In the end rebooting the series is mostly likely about selling toys and video games.
They're...probably the best Star Trek films ever made...with the possible exception of II. Into Darkness was pretty damned good.

Looks cool. I'd have liked to have seen the old gang briefly.
That had to have been by choice. Not even R2 showed up.
Unless the guy in black was Luke
why is this in spoiler?
because it is a possible major plot point and I don't want to spoil it for people who are trying to avoid any information on the story.
Hmm
First time I read it, I thought you said the black guy was Luke and I thought you were just joking. But now that I read it right (the guy in black), that Would be AWESOME!

it fits some of the rumors we have had and they went out of their way not to show his face.

Follows the books too

I am pretty sure I read on here (or maybe somewhere else) that JJ is pretty much scraping the entire book universe and starting fresh with the prior movies as the baseline.

Didn't he also deny that "Into Darkness" was NOT going to be about Khan?

Any director with any sense would scrap the book universe. No need to be tied to something that is nonexistent to the general public.

The first remake was better. Into Darkness tried too hard to be Wrath of Khan.

I'm not the one complaining about a Star Wars movie. They are what they are. A 6, 7 and 8 out of 10 compared to the 10, 10 and 7 that the originals were.

Didn't deny. Just didn't confirm and used misleading quotes. He said the villain was John Harrison.

No one said he has to beholden to it in strict order. But to think he's not going to borrow elements from it is beyond naive.

What is the timeline? When do these three take place?
30 years after Jedi.
Earth years? :)
[geek mode] Actually it is based on the Coruscant year, which was 368 days long. Epochs are used in the universe to mark points in the time line, the most common of which is referred to as BeforeTheBattleofYavin or BBY for short and ABY for AfterTheBattleOfYavin (kind of like our BC and AD epochs).[/geek mode]

Yeah, vehemently.

The yahoo article says that the VOICE OVER for the trailer is Andy Serkis (LotR fame as Gollum, and motion capture guru for Disney and WETA)...

https://tv.yahoo.com/news/reveal-true-identity-mysterious-narrator-032000005.html

But it sure does sound like Benedict Cumberpatch who has long been rumored to be part of the movie. But not currently shown as a actor.

Serkis has a pretty impressive range as a voice actor, so its entirely possible. Will he be evil???

That was a burrito

My expectation going into Star Wars 7 is that the galaxy is in a technological decline. Technology seemed more advanced in the prequels than the original trilogy. The state of technology in the galaxy should be much worse now than what we saw in episode 6.

It makes sense (to me) to still see the Falcon in use because they can't build anything like it 30 years after episode 6. It should be almost a mythical ship by now among people living in this galaxy, with people spinning wild tales about what it can do.

I both loved and hated the prequels.
There was some good, but mostly they're just junk.

Lucas had a choice between telling a story about warrior monks with magical powers and telling a story about politics, poop jokes and creepy teenage stalkers. I'm pretty sure anyone else would have went with the warrior monks.

this. It's been over 20 years since I read any of the books, but I enjoyed them as a HS nerd. Not many people have read them but they seemed well-crafted (from what I recall, again it was 20 years ago and STAR WARS! so we were biased). Using some of the main points would help the new team write the story easier. It would be impossible to use all of the books but Zahn is one of the better writers in the genre.

I wouldn't go pick these books up in the hopes that the movies will follow them completely. But the plot-point mentioned is one that just makes sense to use.

 I enjoyed them overall. the first was junk but the next two were done as well as I expected.

I failed as a parent (tongue in cheek). My 11 yo son was completely surprised that IV-VI were made first. We had them watch I first, mostly because it was the least scary and they were really young. then we let them watch II-VI. He truly didn't even know New Hope was the first one made.

Not really what happened though. Disney said all this was scrap so they could restart their own new expanded universe books which would be considered canon.

Nothing to do with a director not wanting constraints, all to do with Disney wanting a clean timeline that they could make more money on. If it had to do with constraints, then their books also wouldn't be canon so not to hamper future directors.

So do we know for sure that they scraped the book universe or is this just guessing?

They said it was scrap so if they do take parts and not others they don't get blasted by fan boys.

The thing I immediately gravitate to is that this looks like an actual film and not a digital video game like the prequels. The tiny amount of emotion in those characters already blows away the cardboard cutouts that were Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman.

I'm in.
Apparently there will be a lot less green screen and a lot more actual sets in this one to give it that feel.

I imagine there would be less when you compare it to 100%.

This is how I feel about them.

I loved how they made the Jedi completely bad###, and the lightsaber fights (save the Yoda ones) were excellent (as opposed to the original trilogy, where Darth vs. Obi Wan / Luke looked like kids with whiffleball bats).

The rest... meh.

others don't like the broad sword light saber? People are idiots.
Could do without it. Why do they always need to wow us with new light sabers? I thought that was a stupid Lucas thing in the prequels.

Oh look, Darth Maul has a double light saber. He must be really tough.

Then they had to up to 4 (Grievous)

These go to 11. It's one louder.

Overall I liked the teaser. Loved the falcon.

.
Light Sabers are obviously suppose to mimic swords

The look of swords constantly changed over time. It makes perfect sense that people would experiment with different designs.
