STAR WARS: Episode 7 (All-Time #1 opening box office.) (1 Viewer)

So now officially only Episodes I-VI and the Clone Wars cartoons are canon. The entire expanded universe books are now referred to "stat wars legends" and are thrown out the window. All background on character all relationships etc. I thought all these were approved by Lucas/Lucasfilm so were legit. Now they are garbage?

This deal is getting worse all the time.
Is this a surprise to you? 99% of people don't know anything about Star Wars fan fiction. And from the little bit I've read, it's a good thing. A bunch of rubbish, imo.

Well Im glad they're not using fanfiction like Leia and Jar jar love fantasies, Boba Fett jedi crossovers with Lord of the Rings and Harry potter/Luke teen girl slash wouldnt make much sense either. Best to leave the fanfiction to the non writers.

However the officially licensed Extended Universe will probably be referenced if JJ's track record with Star Trek is anything to go on.

I watched some Clone Wars episodes this weekend. I had never watched them before, but I figured maybe I should being that they are canon apparently. Thoughts on these?

Also, was this really a mistake/change by Lucas? I had always thought Clone Wars meant they were fighting against clones (pre Episode 2). Shouldn't the war have been called the Separatist War or Droid War or something? The Republic/Empire used a clone army . . . so what? Did they stop using clones at some point?

For some reason they were always called the Clone wars even back in episode 4. It would make more sense to call it the Separtist war.

However, aside from that initial batch, no more clones were used. They relied on recruits and conscripts as the years went on.

I know they were called that in Episode 4. I'm wondering if Lucas rethought exactly what the clone wars actually were between 1977 and Episode 2. I do not recall in the books (not canon now I know) them describing what the clone wars actually were, other than cloning now being banned (and the emperor having a clone of himself and cloning luke from his hand)

Why wouldn't they be called the Clone Wars? The Republic used clones to win the war.
I had thought prior to Episode 2, that the clone wars were fighting against some enemy using clones. What happened to all the clones afterwards? Were they killed systematically or just allowed to die off and not reproduce?

Not sure what happened to them afterwards but I agree that it was never clear in Ep IV what the wars were all about. At the time I thought it may have been the Jedi fighting clones, which I guess it kind of was.

As I think was said before, Lucas gave acknowledgment that the Zahn books were canon....and in the Zahn books, the clones weren't good guys.

Yeah man, this was a good move. The expanded universe was mostly really terrible writing. I also liked that they leave the door open for that writing to now be called 'legends' because it still leaves room for people to wonder and speculate about which legends are true or not and how much impact they've had. Had they decided to keep it as cannon do you have any idea how poorly written the star wars galaxy would be? The EU stuff is about 80 percent horrible with little moments here and there with some interesting ideas or good writing. Disney did the right thing to clean house.

I just read The Star Wars graphic novel. It's Lucas's original take on the story with quite a few differences and yet some similarities. Pick it up if you are a Star Wars fan.

Storm troopers 30 years later? Really?
The empire didn't die over night from one loss.
I understand that, but IMO that story ended with Jedi. The Empire was defeated and would be replaced with the Rebel's government at some point. It certainly shouldn't take three decades.

If the leaks coming out are true, they don't have any new ideas. They're just throwing everything together with little rhyme or reason.

We cant even establish order in a small country like Iraq after a crushing military defeat a dozen years ago and you're expecting a complete galactic clean sweep in 30 years?

Wait, were the stormtroopers clones or genuine people?

I assumed they were clones because of Leia's "are you a little short for a Stormtrooper?" line.

First batch was clones but they couldn't fill all the ranks with them. Only a couple 10,000 or so were ordered. So they certainly recruited. Han Solo's back story was that he was a former Imperial soldier that was run out after he rescued Chewie from Imperial Slave merchants.

Did anyone catch the latest rumor? If this is true, it is on the level of "I am your father" type spoiler so be warned before clicking. I personally don't think it is true but it was widely reported last week.

The "lost" light saber story line will cause a journey to find Luke. Along the way the journey has the group battling evil at every corner. At the end, they meet up with the evil master, who turns out to be Luke himself, who has long ago turned to the dark side

Well that would be badass. But I don't know if they go to that level right out of the gate. Disney seems like a play it safe kind of company to me.

Is anyone watching the new animated series "Rebels"? My son and I are giving it a shot. The first episode seemed fairly promising.

Setting it between E3 and E4 was a good choice. Lots of potential there.
