STAR WARS: Episode 7 (All-Time #1 opening box office.) (1 Viewer)

The Force Awakens

What does the title mean? Does Luke come out of hiding from some long meditation spell? Does the Empire guy turned guy with blue lightsaber find out he has the Force in him? Is the Force calling out for someone to bring the Jedi back?

The guy with the blue lightsaber is fighting Ren in a snowy setting. Could this be a dream sequence of some kind since Ren has been seen on a planet, presumably, where fire is prevalent?

Is this trilogy going to be a simple trilogy or is it going to be some "commercial" where they will try to spin Star Wars into a tv show ala Marvel, Gotham, Heroes (to a point)?

The plan is to have a Star Wars based movie every year.

It will alternate 7, 8, and 9 with stand alone movies. The stand alone movies could tell stories of characters like Boba Fett and go into different time frames in the universe.

I seem to remember thinking The Phantom Menace trailer was pretty cool, so my expectations are tempered. I'm not 8 anymore. No movie is going to mean anything close to what The Empire Strikes Back meant to me then.

I am the complete opposite.

Movies mean so much more to me now than they did when I was a kid (and I loved movies as a kid).

I think the internet has a big part to do with it. Being able to follow rumors, casting, directors, etc in a non stop flow of information just builds excitement so much more for me then when I was kid and you were lucky to see a 30 second commercial on tv and maybe a rare article in your Sunday Newspaper entertainment section.

Well many of the shows are already sold out and people have tickets on E-bay and Stubhub. You can pay 500 pretty easily if you really want to.

That's, ... a lot of Natalie Portman in silly costumes. I stand corrected. Maybe I'm remembering the War of the Fates music video, which seemed to mostly just be Darth Maul fighting.

The thing with watching the trailer now, is that's its tough to forget that the images I'm seeing were parts that sucked.

Tonight?
Unfortunately no. You get to pay that to wait. Of course some sucker will pay that and the formerly sold out theater will add more shows making the tickets worthless. I mean i can envision whole theaters showing nothing else on opening night. What's the competition? I think it's Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas opening at the same time. Yeah we can put that on one screen and show SW on all the other ones.

I would think some theatres are going to just go all Star Wars. Any contractual obligations to other movies can be shown at 7 am or something.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. Especially opening day.

For me my kids were either too young or not born yet when 1-3 came out. I'm excited to see it with them. I don't think kids appreciate how groundbreaking and cool 4-6 were for us. While I don't expect much groundbreaking I do hope the new movies will at least be a success and "cool" - it will be a fun bonding opportunity with my boys.

It's official, the VIP sports episode is a repeat.

Edit: And nobody in this thread will care.

Pretty annoying that all the big screen options automatically have to be in 3D. I don't want that crap, but I would like to see it on a bigger screen. Lame.

I've only seen one 3D movie ever and that was recently with the Minions movie. That #### really messed with my eyes. Screw that.

I have seen a couple and the only one that was worth it was Avatar b/c it was shot in 3D. IMO the post conversion 3D is a pointless waste of money.

How do you buy tickets now? I never have done that before. Is there a limit? Was gonna take the kids soccer team.

I'm on the fence with it. I usually just pick the time I want to go and if it's 2D, fine. If it's 3D, fine

Gravity was pretty sweet in 3D

Wasn't Gravity shot in 3D as well? That, Avatar, and Life of Pi are the only ones I can think of off hand.

This is going to be the biggest movie of all-time and Disney has unlimited funds. They are not going to roll this out with some ####house 3D.

Hugo was shot in 3D and for me it was one of the best uses of the technology as it was a gorgeous movie to watch and the effects were well placed within the context of the film.

yup. We generation whatevers finally get the continuation of the saga done right rather than that steaming pile of goop Lucas dropped on us 15 years ago.

Disney will milk this far far into the future beyond your wildest dreams.

I don't know. I can imagine quite a bit.

Yes, Lucas himself wanted to do a live action tv show years ago but it cost too much. Now with sets being built and reused/redressed for multiple movies they are in talks with Netflix in hopes of bringing Star Wars to the small screen.

Is it odd that they haven't announced the 2016 movie? Or have they?

Tell you what. This new movie has no pressure as the previous movies were widely panned by Star Wars geeks. So comparing this to the prequel trilogy.....yeah the bar is set low.

I believe the magic, mystery and awe of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back will never again be attained.

Ever.

It's timeless and it was a one of a kind experience. Nothing was ever like Star Wars back then (77,80,83) and those original characters, wooden acting, models, suits and all, were our childhood.

I did not even compare the prequels to the original trilogy. It was pointless. I thought Episode III really stood on it's own. I find it a better film than Return of the Jedi on a total basis after repeated viewings (Jedi has some classic scenes but as a whole Sith is stronger and darker which I like).

The new trilogy (or whatever Disney plans to milk out of this cash cow they paid billions for) will be pretty awesome IMO. Having the prequel as a model of where not to do helps. And JJ at the helm is a huge plus. Lucas was way past his prime with the prequels.

I am really pumped for this. For us Gen X'ers......I agree with that. This will be a better Star Wars experience for us since the original trilogy because our original heroes are back.

It will feel like home again in a galaxy far far away.

One of the most boring movies I've ever seen. Granted I watched it at home and not in 3D but I fell asleep and didn't bother to finish it

I thought it was the Boba Fett stand alone.

IMDB has a film called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for 2016. This is supposed to be the story of how the rebels stole the plans to the Death Star.
