:lol: Hate to give away this but.. Go to a small town near you that has theaters.. ..

The last 3 releases were sold out well in advance in the Twin Cities, yet my Dad and I walked up opening day and purchased tickets without any issues in our "small town". :)

I have a feeling that most theaters are going to commit a few extra rooms for this as the day gets closer. No reason to have less then a 1/4 filled room for some geriatric flick when people are clawing at the doors to get in

I imagine every theatre will be 50% Star Wars for the first two weeks. I'm sure they have contractual obligations to other studios to show their crap, but they'll find a way around that.

They dont actually.The studios determine what gets shown, so when a blockbuster like this comes out theyll send extra hard drives of star wars to the multiplexes so they can show in multiple theaters. The other studios wont release much else so the deck is cleared. There will be your normal filler movies but an 8 plex will have 2-4 screens on star wars for 2-3 wks. In return the studios will take 65% of all ticket sales, which is why your $1 popcorn costs $9.

When I worked at a movie theater back in HS, I remember seeing a profit breakdown on everything sitting on the manager's desk one day. They made 450% profit on a bag of popcorn. They only made 8% on a ticket.

I don't know if it's the case, but they used to get more if the movie was second run. I actually think that percentage flipped and the theatre got most of the ticket revenue.

Thats true on all movies, first or 2nd run. The studios set the split pctg, based on their best guess to how the movie will perform. Big movies have higher rakes for the studio, say 60-70%, not so big might only be 30-40%.

 
I'm starting to wonder. A major theme of the original trilogy was science vs faith. Han didn't believe in the Force. Kenobi did. People in the Empire even debated its merits with Vader. The third trailer went back to the theme of science vs faith, only now the Finn and Rey seem to be skeptics and Han now has faith. J.J. Abrams created LOST, which also had a central theme of science vs faith.

I'm wondering if Abrams is going to borrow a ton of ideas from LOST and stuff it into the Star Wars universe. Maybe Luke will be modeled after Jacob. Luke is this powerful, mysterious, and hidden hero people are looking for, like Jacob.

If just hope we dont get a scene where Chewbacca is in some bunker pushing a button every 108 minutes. :D

Sorry, but no.Luke didn't turn to the dark side but he did exist there for a brief moment to defeat Vader but rescue Anakin.

The Balance that had to be brought to the Force is the acknowledgement that emotions are part of life...The Force included. Not the repression of emotion of the Jedi or the raw emotion of the Sith. Rather thaT our reasoning selves co-exist with our emotional selves.

That's where Yoda and, by extension, Obi Wan were wrong and Luke right.

At the end of ROTJ we see fire purging the entity known as Vader and a PEACEFUL Luke who knows that he had rescued his father and returned him to the light.

I'll be very disappointed if Luke turns Dark Side. It'll invalidate his Original Trilogy journey.

Checked on this...$75 and the only seats are at the very back (next to handicapped seat so I could have to move) or the front rows.

I'm not reading that article or any other spoilers. My thoughts :

. I thought it was clear in Jedi that he slipped into the dark side by giving into emotion (seemingly anger at one point) although I agree that the point of the prequels and Luke always choosing his friends/family was that the old Jedi ways were wrong. I think Luke was the chosen one who balanced the force by brining his father back to the light and playing a role in the emperor meeting his demise. The balance is Lukr having both the light and dark side within him. Maybe he goes into isolation for that reason.

Right to me Luke is gray. He is neither light or dark but a human mix of both.

 
My twins first ever Halloween they dressed up as Darth and Yoda

Of course that was mostly my doing, now it's princesses, vampires, and witches.

Jar Jar was barely in Ep 2. It was episode 1 he ruined.

I would argue that the majority of Episode 1 ruined episode 1. Jar Jar was just the most egregious element.

 
At first I laughed but that Jar Jar theory actually makes sense. It makes sense that Lucas had something way bigger in mind for him and got scared by the backlash the character created.

 
I rewatched Ep I with my daughter (first time I've rewatched it since it came out) and honestly Jar Jar was less bad than I remember. My daughter chuckled at him a few times, whatever. I think the general writing /flow was much worse.

Sure, I agree.

But I think if you remove Jar Jar entirely from Number 1 it is not quite as bad as 2 and is probably fairly close to 6. Of course if you remove Jar Jar, you also should remove the teddy bears and then Jedi is significantly better than 1.

I think that's giving Lucas too much credit. Everything in Episode I is pointless. You can skip it totally and miss nothing.

Yea. I believe that episodes 1 and 2 could have been combined. Episode 2 has the turn to the dark side. And 3 is hunting down the Jedi and birth of the twins.

 
Jar Jar was actually a very well placed character in II. They needed a stupid being that could be easily manipulated..... Perfect casting.
