STAR WARS: Episode 7 (All-Time #1 opening box office.) (1 Viewer)

I kinda don't care how Vader became bad. Not sure why we ever needed that story. I just like them to be awesome bad guys who whoop ###.

I like how the batman movies never addressed this with the joker. He's just insane and he loves to be evil, so enjoy.
A joker prequel would be huuuuuge.

Anyone have a Google Cardboard viewer? The official Star Wars app is releasing some VR snippets every few days for it of full 360º environments.

you don't need the cardboard for it, but its pretty cool with it.

It's confirmed, I'm going with my son, parents and a bunch of nieces and nephews for a 6:30pm showing on Dec. 17th. SCORE!

Wow. This came up really fast. I remember when we saw the first preview I thought "man that's like ages away."
:excited:

I am probably more pumped than my 9 year old (lesson not learned from Episode 1, I guess).

Surprised him last night and let him know that we get to go immediately after school on the 18th. (Mom wouldn't let me give him the day off of school to go).

is it possible to purchase the original trilogy on DVD without the revisions (Greedo shooting first, etc).??
My guess it would be hard, and probably pricey, especially on DVD. Lucas is probably tinkering on the movies as we speak.

I was going to get any versions of the originals on DVD, and evidently they aren't making them. Most were going for $45-50 on Amazon or something crazy.

Only one DVD set has them and even then they are just an extra in non-animorphic form, so they don't look great.starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Original_unaltered_trilogy

Kind of surprised the original trilogy and the prequels haven't been on TV at all leading up to this. I assume that's intentional?

Anybody try to get tickets in the last couple days? Curious how filled up all the shows are already.
Bought mine Wednesday. There were plenty of regular (non-3D) tickets.
How big of a town and what day did you get tickets for?

I got ours about 3 weeks ago and they were already getting gutting for any decent screens and seats.
I got them for Friday night. Knoxville, TN. ~850K metro area.

Hate to give this secret away .. aka STAY OUT OF MY TOWN  but..

Find a small town/city near you that will be showing it and is not selling tickets in advance..

I'll walk up to my local theater on Friday the 18th for the "lunch" showing and get tickets without any issues..

Did this for the last 3 Star Wars movies and there were, at the most, 30 people in the theater at that showing.. :bowtie:

We see who wears the light saber in your family.

Why was Star Wars 4, 5 and 6 before Star Wars 1, 2 and 3?

Because in charge of numbering, Yoda was.

I'll show myself out.

Was shocked how many showings weren't yet sold out when I bought tickets the other night. Fenway area theater in Boston, thought it would have sold out already.

We all thought the same about Vader.
As bad as SW I was, it's still the 20th highest-grossing movie of all time and was the #2 movie of all time at it's peak.

That's huuuuge.

For guys that are counting down the days and have obvious excitement over seeing this...do you think you'll be able to be objective with your reviews? What if this is a steaming pile of turds like the Phantom Menace? Because I haven't been to a movie in years and I kind of want to take my son to this after the frothiness subsides, but I'm not going if the story sucks as bad as the last 3. I'm hopeful, but cautious.

huge fan of the originals, and I immediately knew that the 1st 3 sucked balls. No fan boy love here. I'll have no problem doing the same if this blows chunks...but i'm not expecting it to. I'm also a huge LotR fan and have no problem saying that the Hobbit trilogy was a waste.

I don't think it will have the character of the orig 3, I'm expecting more like the Star Trek remakes. I can't tell you right now if thats good bad, but i'll know when I see it.

my wife is already gearing up for disappointment. But i'm giving it an optimistic chance.

we go over this time and again but I find this statement always enticing because when you take the bias out of it, there is not a lot of difference in quality between 3 and 6 unless of course you love teddy bears destroying the empire with twigs.

Let's not do this again. I think it's safer for everyone if you guys just agree to disagree.

If you don't trust fans use rotten tomatoes.

If you don't trust either the critics or fans you won't have much else to do but see it yourself.

I am not expecting citizen cane or shawshank. I am hoping to be entertained and I have a high degree of confidence I will be.

A lot will depend on your expectations going in.

It might just be that we were kids, movies hadn't gotten as good as they are now, and nostalgia, but 6 was a lot better than 3. Although I actually don't hate 3 (just 1)

:goodposting: I saw Phantom Menace at midnight on its opening day with a group of buddies. After the movie let out, one of my friends was interviewed by a local TV station. He flat - out told them that it was terrible and didn't deserve the Star Wars name. I won't have a problem saying the same thing with this one, if it's bad.

:fingers crossed : Please don't be bad :/fingers crossed:

If this movie is just A New Hope redux with new actors, would you be ok with it?
No one could ever recapture whatever made A New Hope feel the way it did, but I'll still say yes, I'd be okay with that. A visually stunning (but not in a prequel trilogy CGI way) update on a modern classic for a new generation, with the original trilogy tie-ins via the main characters? I'd be okay with that.

Cool man, I agree with that. Just wondering if the same type of story arc would disappoint some.

Yes. As others have said, I was excited for Episode 1 and thought it was a steaming turd. I have different tastes than others around these parts, but I always try to be honest with my reviews. Like you posted, I wouldn't want people wasting their money on something I thought was crap. We probably need to post reviews in a different thread. I am sure spoilers will be leaking out very quickly.

See I left the theater after 1,2 and 3 satisfied each time. I recognized cringe worthy moments as they happened but my love for Star wars powered me through. It wasn't till I researched them multiple times that I recognized how flawed they were.

In the moment, nothing is going to make me not like this movie. Maybe later it will become bad kind of like The Dark Knight Rises.

The Dark Knight Rises was bad right away.

I am sure some where in the last six months some one in here has guessed the plot regarding Luke but that being said I am going to go into a media black out on noon on Thursday until I see the movie on Friday night in the hopes I won't get it fully spoiled.
