STAR WARS: Episode 7 (All-Time #1 opening box office.) (2 Viewers)

So we need to avoid the Internet and most tv starting Monday?
Sounds like Thursday PM.Friday morning will be tough for me, geez.
With Los Angeles premiere 12/14 and London 12/15?
I imagine people at premiers have to sign a non-disclosure, but yea it could be tough then. Maybe I'll put a Star Wars/Luke/leia filter on Twitter and avoid this place next week.
It opens in Europe on Wednesday for every one I believe.

I wonder if my 4 year old would sit through this. might be worth a matinee

I enjoyed The Phantom Menace. Loved Liam's role, loved Darth Maul (although a tiny part). Did not like Anakin at all. Wooden. But hey it was a little kid. And this was a kid's movie. Episode 2 was pretty bad. I never watch it. Episode 3 was great IMO.

Episode 1 for a little kid was a tour de force. And that was exactly it's intention. Always was.

Anyway......so looking forward to next Saturday morning. 10:AM IMAX!!!! My son, nephew, niece, sister and 2 brother in-laws are all going (my wife could give 2 ***t's about Star Wars). Reserved the top middle row in the theatre

Like I said, the majority left the theater liking Ep1.
Never understood the massive hate for the prequels. I know it's already been discussed ad nausea in this thread but I thought 1 and 3 were good. 2 had it's bad moments but the battles were great. I don't put the prequels on a pedistle like IV-VI as they are the best off all the movies so far, but the prequels weren't that bad.

I liked the prequels as they were happening. Then I read the internets and learned that they were bad. Then I saw things in them that stunk. I even liked Hayden Christiansen and still do in certain ways. I think he's excellent at being angry, very average at his non-angry stuff, and horrid in his love scenes.

Then when I re-watched the first three movies, I remembered that Luke Skywalker was a pretty dreadful actor at times too. (his whining at the start of A New Hope is painful. Would he survive the twitter generation???)

Me and the kids have started on the prequels in prep for this new movie. It's the first time I've seen them in 5 or more years. We are through the first two. My initial thoughts are far more negative than I remembered.

The CGI is so bad it's painful. At times, I feel like I'm watching an Xbox one game. It's way too much and it ruins the movies.

Phantom Menace was ok, but they wasted an entire movie on Anakin as a boy. The entire movie's relevance to the other five movies was pretty small. Sure, it shows how they picked up Anakin from Tattoine, and how he already had amazing abilities, but that kind of thing could have been done in 15 minutes.

Attack of the Clones was ok, but again it felt like I was watching a video game, not a movie.

I don't know if the Blu-Ray edition makes it better or worse. But all I know is that those aren't movies I will watch again for a long time.

6-year old son loves Jar-Jar though. He is in the beginning of PM a bit too much, but overall he never really bothered me that much. A character for kids, meh.

I think the reason people are so pumped for the new movies is that the previews just look real. You feel like you could actually be there. Who in the heck watches Attack of the Clones and feels they are in a real place? It seems like a fake world.

Would/will spoilers really ruin this? Seriously
In regards to Luke .. YES!!!

I'll be seeing it Friday the 18th and will do all I can to avoid spoilers until then..

Just have to hope CNN/Yahoo/Google/Bing don't post spoilers on their front news sites like they do the day after a Walking dead episode airs..

I agree with this. He went way too heavy on it. I love the old movies because of the charm of the models and special effects pre-CGI era. I thought Episode III was really strong though and the effects were the best of the prequels.

They look amazing on blueray. But again the CGI in the first two are overwhelming at times. And then of course Lucas had to go and ruin the original trilogy with the added CGI crap. Just awful.

If there is one thing that I wasn't a fan of was the saturation at times of the CGI but some of those battles still were pretty friggin cool. J.J. did well to go back to some of the conventional ways of film making while sprinkling in some CGI for TFA. Should really boost the quality of the film for sure. It's also one of the reasons why I can't wait to see this movie.

Jar-Jar was always a comedy relief for a kid. I absolutely think he was the least interesting character (also most annoying) out of all of the films but he did serve some purpose.

I'm only going doing any fantasy football stuff and Netflix. Going to avoid the temptation of the Spoiler thread on this site and any other news sites. Also Twitter, need to stay very ####### far away from that.

It is interesting that when re-watching 4-6 the Special Editions today, the some of the original special affects from the 70's 80's, hold up much better than the ones he added in the late 90's.

that doesn't mean much, IMO. I remember hyping the hell out of The Matrix Reloaded. I walked out of the theater loving it, but a couple days later I was just like "man, that was kinda lame".

That was my point. People who were saying "I knew that movie was terrible first minute I sat down" were just internet tough guys.

People will wait to see if it is cool to trash it or not before deciding

i can already point to things in the trailer that people would be up in arms about if Lucas did, but if the general consensus is to like this film people will. People stood and applauded at the end of Phantom Menace.

I hope people like and accept this film, but if not that's their issue.

What made Phantom Menace even worse for me was reading the book first. I had visions of what I thought I would see, based mostly off of the original films, and what I seen opening night was something I thought belonged on the Cartoon Network. I just remember saying "oh man" a lot while watching it in the theater.

I will speak for myself only and say that I was very disappointed with Phantom Menace the moment I watched it for the first and only time. Jar-Jar was ridiculous but the dialogue, casting and acting were just atrocious and when I left the theater I told my wife that I was never going to the theatre for the next two. I din't, I watched them on dvd. And it was a great decision on my part. I paused those movies regularly to eat, pee, answer the phone.

This movie looks legit and I am excited and hopeful that this time "they" got it right.

You have no taste in films. Sorry to break it to you.

Welp, I just saw a massive spoiler elsewhere on the interwebs.

I tend to not really mind spoilers in general, but if you are really anal about this stuff, you might want to live in a closet for the next week.

I am glad my son loves watching Star Wars Rebels as much as he does, because that show it excellent!
:goodposting: It's a great show. Sometimes I'll watch a new episode the night it records and then watch it again later with my boys :bag:
