Starting for the CHI Bears at QB in 08.... (1 Viewer)

There's a ton of questions surrounding the Bear's QB situation in 08. Angelo has already stated that the position is going to be an open competition. In my opinion that means it'll be between Orton, Griese, and Rex (if resigned). They are seriously scouting tons of college QBs (senior bowl rumors) and could draft one for the future. I still believe they'd go with a veteran for 08 though as the rookie would have to be seasoned. The lack of a solid O-line freightens me a bit as protection was bad in 07. Kyle Orton has the makings of a Drew Brees in my opinion but without the weapons. He's got a strong arm, good size, and comes from a proven college system. I think he could surprise people if they hand him the keys to the car. With a little more protection, another WR opposite Hester and a running game (Turner)...not a bad thought. In house, draft, FA, where's the next Bear's QB going to come from??????

I have felt for a while that McNabb would end up in Chitown. I would be shocked if any of the 3 QBs from last year was the starter at the beginning of the season.

Without much support Orton didn't look too bad and would be an inexpensive option. If he pans out throw a tag on him. Angelo has said it'll be a open competition no matter who's brought in. I don't see them going for D. Anderson as two picks is too rich for Angelo. I don't think Rex will be resigned as the Bears just need to go in another direction.

There's some good talk here: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=370362

The general consensus is that Rex will be offered an incentive laden deal to stay in Chicago, so it will be up to him if he wants to stay and try to win the job. The Bears will draft a QB in the upcoming draft and I beleive that they will use either their 2nd rd pick or one of their 3rd round picks (they have two) on someone like Henne, Ainge, Booty or Flacco.

I think that they will go into camp with the 3 from last year and a rookie and would not be surprised to see them cut Greise IF the rookie plays well.

This is exactly what will happen.Grossman will be back because, although nobody wants to admit it, he is the most talented QB. They will cut Griese and then draft a kid later in the draft(I would say 3rd or 4th round).

Actuall they will draft a kid then they will cut Griese at a later date.

I've been thinking all along that JP Losman has just the right balance of athletic potential and :goodposting: inconsistency to be the perfect fit for the Chicago Bears. I'm not saying that he would be the best quarterback for the Bears, just that he is the type of QB they would bring in.

I think they would have to give up a 3rd or 4th round pick for him and then sign him to a new incentive-laden deal (this is the last year of his contract). But this is pure speculation.

The whole offense needs re-constructed. This is what happens when you spend the majority of drafts focusing on defense, as the Bears have done recently. I think they should start Orton with Griese backing up, do not re-sign Grossman, and draft Henne [rd 2], Flacco [rd 2], or Josh Johnson [rd 3 or 4]. The only one of those rookies I would even consider using in 08 would be Henne and only if the season is a lost cause in the final few weeks, a la Troy Smith in BMore this season. Building the foundation (OLine) would be of greatest priority, acquiring WR talent would be next. I wouldn't plan on throwing my 08 drafted QB until at least 2010, when some decent talent is finally surrounding him. This is at least a two year project; the whole offense is a mess.

None of this will likely happen, but it's what I'd do.

Would Trent Green be a possibility or is he just going to have to retire? I could see this if they felt they had enough pieces in place to get back to the SB with a veteran QB.

Unless they can trade for McNabb or Anderson, Grossman is the man...they need to buy him some protection, because the hobbit really needs it, and when he has, he 'aint bad...

Great idea in theory, but the Bears have a defense that can win now and they need to play to that strength. Seeing the NY Giants beat the best offensive team in the league with their defense gives the Bears confidence to know they can compete if they get a few things straightened out on defense and if they can run the ball effectively.

What are you willing to give up for McNabb? From listening to Joe Banner, I would assume the asking price would be a 1st round pick to start (Banner actually said 3 firsts, but I assume he would come down from that) and a player.
