I just rewatched the games and the announcers talked about the wind throughout the first half. They said wind gusts up to 25 mph and swirling wind on the field.

When does this become a Delhome thread, because that's what this is really about: the end of Jake. I've heard or read Carolina fans defend Jake. Ok, fine, but I can tell you I've been watching Jake play since he was a Saint and he's not the same QB. Weak throws, overwhelmed after the snap, missing throws, and - most importantly, for Jake - not taking chances and pulling them off, that's how he's looked to me.

Huge Delhomme supporter here. He is a great guy, class act, pretty clutch player over the years, and a strong leader. Yet I concur 100%. Jake is toast. Don't know if he's lost his arm, and hence has no confidence in taking shots downfield any more, or if it's a mental thing where he is scared of making mistakes and they have become a self-fulfilling prophecy....either way, it's over for Jake.
 
I can see Delhomme forcefeeding the ball to Smith to the tune of 7 for 80 yds at the maximum. The Bills cant stop the run and thats Carolinas MO.

 
I just picked up Smith of waivers this week, if for no other reason than to stash him away until things start looking better for him. I have the luxury of not needing to start him any time soon. He was just too good to let sit as a free agent.

 
The good thing is that we're going to find something out one way or another. In a way I'm glad that it got SO bad that it hit a breaking point and Smith spoke out. We will now find out if Delhomme:

1) Has just been insanely gunshy with the shaky confidence after the playoff game and game 1 this year

2) Truly has lost too much in his arm and can't get the ball where it needs to be

We have to be pulling for #1 - and in my opinion, there's reason for hope. I think Delhomme has gone into a mental shell and become a "game manager". He WILL have to realize that Carolina is not good enough to win games on running and defense this year. He has to get some balls and make some throws. If he can't, he's going to lose his job.

I'm glad Smith put him on the spot this week since the Bills *should* be a team he can build confidence against with the play action. Lets hope he uses the opportunity well.

Not to mention his next two games after Buffalo are @Ari and @NO. No way, can the Panthers rely solely on their defense and running games - they're going to have to air it out, and Smith should be heavily involved.

I just picked him up this week. I agree, he is too good to sit on the WW. His situation doesn't look good now, but if he (and Delhomme) ever get it going you're not going to find a higher upside WR off the WW. And who knows, if Delhomme gets benched at some point maybe a new QB could be the catalyst to get Smith on track. I was hoping to stash him as well, but I have Megaton on a bye and Boldin gimpy so as of now I'm starting Nicks and Cribbs this week (1 pt for 25 return yards league). With Cribbs questionable I'm debating on plugging in Smith over him. It can't get any worse for Smith than last week can it? :thumbup:

I didn't know he had put on so much weight since his injury...Thanks for that unintentional comic relief. I've had less fun this football season than any since the early 1990s. One of the major reasons why is obvious as I am reading this thread. I needed a laugh.

I just picked him up this week. I agree, he is too good to sit on the WW. His situation doesn't look good now, but if he (and Delhomme) ever get it going you're not going to find a higher upside WR off the WW. And who knows, if Delhomme gets benched at some point maybe a new QB could be the catalyst to get Smith on track. I was hoping to stash him as well, but I have Megaton on a bye and Boldin gimpy so as of now I'm starting Nicks and Cribbs this week (1 pt for 25 return yards league). As of right now, Terrence Mcgee is hurt and Leodis Mckelvin is out for the year. Donte Whitner and Bryan Scott (the starting safeties) are hurt and may or may not play. I'm not sure if Mcgee will play but if he doesn't our #1 Corner would be Drayton Florence. Reggie Corner would play as the #2. And Jairus Byrd and George Wilson would play at safety. That isn't exactly a great secondary. The bills play a Tampa 2 so the underneath stuff should be open. Also, when we are getting gashed by the run i fully expect us to attempt to bring a safety down into the box which will give Steve Smith a chance to beat us deep.

No Panthers wide receiver has caught a touchdown pass. All season. In other words, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel has caught more touchdown passes this season than all the Panthers' wide receivers combined.

Somehow, this must change, though it probably won't this week. Despite their many shortcomings, the one thing the Bills have done very well is shut down wide receivers. No team has done a better job at keeping wide receivers off the scoreboard than the Bills. This season, the Bills' defense has allowed only one touchdown pass to a wide receiver. If Buffalo succeeds again, Smith could go off again.

im in the same boat, for me its Smith, a hurt Boldin, and Caldwell from Cincy....as of right now i am still rolling with smith. but its not a easy choice. Do they not have anybody better than dehlome????why not make some sort move before the deadline if they dont

Let's hope this is the nail in the coffin for Delhomme. I don't see how they could do any worse, with whoever they put in there. Delhomme actually looked like he couldn't believe he threw that last Interception. Carolina's defense appeared to play good enough to win if their QB could make a few plays.

I watched the game today and Delhomme is just terrible. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't get benched at some point during the season. Steve Smith had a chance for a touchdown when he got deep at the end of the game but just got tripped up.I guess it is good to see him get targets and catches though...they seemed to make an effort to get him the ball.

In PPR, the result was nice for me with 6 receptions for 99 yards. I'll take that all day. He's behind Vincent Jackson and Miles Austin anyway (tied with Greg Jennings) in my 10 team league. I actually hope this is a solid barometer of the future...
 
Luckily, Miles Austin buys me the ability to sit Smith a while. I don't have much bench space and it's damn annoying to sit a guy like Steve Smith, but what can you do...

I picked up the Arizona D last week, with my eye on next week's matchup at home vs. Jake. It could get ugly..
 
Panthers coach John Fox wouldn't commit to Jake Delhomme as his starting quarterback in Monday's day-after press conference.

It's difficult to read too deeply into this because Fox is noncommittal about most things, but Delhomme is certainly on the brink of a benching. On pace to throw a mind-boggling 35 interceptions, Delhomme is also 32nd in the league in passer rating. Expect Matt Moore and A.J. Feeley's reps to increase in practice this week. The Panthers head to Arizona for Week 8.

Can it get much worse than Delhomme right now? It's time.

 
Fox is stupid stubborn but I think he realizes he has no choice but to start Moore. They are out of the division race and there is no way they can catch the wild card so it is basically rebuilding time without the draft picks. Jake has more interceptions than J Russell and he has a way better line, running game and receivers. Think about that.

I agree - I like the idea of AJ Feely better. Moore from my memory is more of a checkdown, game manager type. I don't think he would help Smith as much as Feely would, who seems (from my cobweb filled memory, mind you) to have a more live arm. Feely seemed to be more of a risk-taker for better or worse, so that may be enough reason to drive Fox to go with Moore... he doesn't want to replace Delhomme just to see more bonehead INTs...
 
Aj Feely has had his chance at multiple stops, why not see what Moore has on an extended basis? By all accounts he is smart, athletic and has a good arm. Lets be honest here by now it is obvious Fox and Co. are gone so why not see what kind of talent is on the roster to work with in a rebuilding stage. He has been a backup for a while now so he should know the playbook at least.

I'm not sure a survey of the fans is going to influence Fox's decision here. The other article makes it seem like Jake is going to start against the Cardinals. It was nice to see Steve Smith having a decent day with 6 catches for 99 yards, but he still can't find the end zone, and Delhomme is turning it over like crazy. It's obvious there isn't any accuracy on his throws and his decision making isn't sharp.

I'd like to see Moore play also. It can't get any worse.

At least we know Delhomme will keep forcing the ball to him 10-12 times. Moore might try to spread the ball around like a real QB. Yuck.I have no issues with 6 for 99 and a shot at a TD.
 
Smith owner here, honestly speaking guys, id be VERY surprised if a QB switch helped us at all...as sad as it sounds, Delhomo is our best bet, I believe, of making sure Smith gets enough targets to produce in that run first offense.

 
When healthy, Smitty has never caught less than 6 TD's in a season. Just traded Vernon Davis and Manningham for Smith, and I'm looking forward to Act II of his campaign.

I didn't see the game, but I read that Smith would have scored on the deep ball he caught if not for an "ankle tackle." It's a little sad, but it made me feel better. :unsure:
