Steven Jackson to ATL (1 Viewer)

Figures, since I dropped Jacquizz last week.
It's okay, Quizz would barely hold value even in PPR. IMO, he's extremely underwhelming. I'd rather have Snelling.

EDIT: But optimally, I'm leaning on neither.
I agree with this. I watched Quizz a few times last year and saw enough to see that his only value is in his hands. He can catch a ball on a screen or short pass. That seems like that is about it for him. He's slow and doesn't have much vision or ability to make much happen.

I've always been intrigued by Snelling. Seems like a talented guy from the little I've seen of him but just never gets a good workload. So I don't know if Snelling just isn't capable with a normal workload or if he's always been overlooked.
Also agree. Snelling would be the guy I'd pickup if S-Jax misses games.

He is currently being drafted 2.01 and rising. If you are not drafting him as your #1 then what exactly are you drafting him for?

And lol at your heart and drive explanation.
According to MFL, in drafts since Aug 15th his ADP is 21st. Its ~21st for both PPR and non-PPR as well.

And I said heart and drive in that original post, so not sure how much more clear I can be especially after clarifying that statement twice now. Thinking I meant SJax has more of heart than any other RB besides Peterson is pretty reasonable I think. Not sure why you would ascertain from that statement I meant I trust him more than any other RB to finish as the #2 RB, which is far less reasonable.
More heart you say? How does that help with his thigh? You were simply asking for troubled drafting this guy in the first or second. History is proven correct once again.
Well I ended up not drafting him in any leagues but cool.

Same here. I thought Jackson had a chance to be really productive this year, but he kept going for more than I wanted to pay in every auction I did.

Just curious why you think that? Looking at nothing more than the box score from yesterday, obviously Snelling was more productive but it seems to me that the team has more faith in Rodgers (11 carries to 2 carries and each with 4 catches). Just curious if there was anything that stood out to make you think Snelling would be the go to guy?

1. Rodgers was terrible2. Snelling was out there for the final drive and sealed the game with a catch.

As a Falcons fan....Snelling is just flat-out better than Rodgers.

Snelling also had a few great games in relief of Turner a couple years ago, showing something Quizz hasn't yet. He'll be the TD guy for sure if they have to go committee.

When can we expect to hear something... Was hoping in vain to see him after halftime. Is this something that may cause him to miss games? Any homers hearing anything from beat writers?

Get used to it from SJAX. He'll start the next game and take a few carries and then sit the rest of the game.

Then next year when guys are looking at his stats and someone brings up his injurys they'll say "but he started all 16 games". As a SJAX owner in the past, this is normal for the guy.

If they're smart they'll give Snelling most of the carries and use Quizz the way the Saints use Sproles. Something like 5 carries and 5 catches for Quizz.

Great post. This is exactly why he is on zero of my 9 redraft teams. Gets nicked up and the sucks every year

Sproles actually touches the ball closer to 15 times a game. IMO, neither RB will hold any real value in SJax's possible absence as I can see it being an even split. Hopefully SJax owners have better flex options.

You have an odd definition of "sucks". I bet a lot of RBs wish they could "suck" as hard as SJax and rush for 1000+ yards for 8 seasons in a row.

5 catches with 70 combined yards would make Quizz would make him a RB2 option in PPR.

12 PPG would make him a high-end RB3 (25th overall actually) according the stats after 2 weeks (discounting tonight obviously). In PPR, he could make for a serviceable flex I suppose but i feel like he has no upside to speak of.

just like in previous years, he is a wasted 2nd (and in some drafts 1rst) pick. He does this every year it seems. Starts out unbelievably slow and puts you in a hole early but rallies when he is on your bench to muster up 1000 yards. I screamed it from the mountain tops on here that he would wreck your season as a rb1 or 2. You cannot have that type of tread on your tires and not expect some insane drop off. History simply shows this ad nausea um. The RB with that type of wear and tear that have a productive year over the age of 30 you can count on 1 hand.

Most guys could have had Julio, D Thomas, J Graham, Brandon Marshall etc instead of subscribing to the archaic RB-RB philosophy

I'll take your word re the mountain tops thing but I completely agree. The guy was pulling groins, hammys, and quads long before 30 which tells me all I need to know.

why on Gods green earth (Kenny Powers) would someone draft Jackson over AJ Green, Julio, D Thomas, Welker, Dez etc. It makes no logical sense.

I took him in the second to pair with Lesean McCoy. The upshot is that I passed on David Wilson for him. And that I have McCoy of course. I grabbed Murray in the third round in what is not starting to look like an insane move because he's as fragile as they come.

I can tell you that had any of those WRs dropped some of us wouldn't have sjax now. That said. Drafting him necessitates a plan b. go heavy on RBs, take a third RB early at the expense of another position (need to get through bye weeks anyway) or something.

So now that its been pointed out that some of you were aware that he would get a thigh injury in week one...what's

He prognosis on such an injury? Is this like pulling a hamstring? Is he doubtful for Sunday? Is this a Multi-week thing?

What is a thigh bruise and strain?

A thigh bruise is a bruise (contusion) to the large group of muscles in the front of the thigh that help straighten the leg. These muscles are called the quadriceps. A strain is a stretch or tear of a muscle or tendon. People commonly call such an injury a "pulled" muscle.

How does it occur?

A thigh bruise is caused by a direct blow to the muscles of the thigh. A strain may be caused by overuse or by an abrupt movement of the thigh in activities such as sprinting or jumping.

What are the symptoms?

You have pain in the middle of your thigh and have trouble walking or running. It may be hard to bend, straighten your leg, or lift your knee. An area of your thigh may be swollen and discolored.

A thigh bruise or strain usually heals without complications. However, a large bruise may bleed a lot into the quadriceps muscle. This bleeding is called a hematoma. The hematoma may become calcified and form a hard lump in the quadriceps muscle. This lump is called osteomyositis ossificans and may cause stiffness or a bump in the muscle that may be very long lasting.

How is it diagnosed?

Your healthcare provider will ask about your symptoms and examine your thigh. If your provider suspects an area of calcification, an X-ray may be ordered.

How is it treated?

Right after your injury your healthcare provider may wrap your leg in a bent-knee position and place ice over your thigh. This will put a maximum stretch on the thigh muscles, keeping them from becoming too tight or stiff during healing.

To treat this condition:

  • Put an ice pack, gel pack, or package of frozen vegetables, wrapped in a cloth on the area every 3 to 4 hours, for up to 20 minutes at a time.
  • You could also do ice massage. To do this, first freeze water in a Styrofoam cup, then peel the top of the cup away to expose the ice. Hold the bottom of the cup and rub the ice over the area for 5 to 10 minutes. Do this several times a day while you have pain.
  • Raise the thigh on a pillow when you sit or lie down.
  • Take an anti-inflammatory medicine such as ibuprofen, or other medicine as directed by your provider. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) may cause stomach bleeding and other problems. These risks increase with age. Read the label and take as directed. Unless recommended by your healthcare provider, do not take for more than 10 days.
  • After you recover from your acute injury, use moist heat for 10 to 15 minutes at a time before you do warm-up and stretching exercises. Do not use heat if you have swelling.
  • Wear an elastic thigh wrap when you return to sports.

Why would there be news? It's a bruise. There probably aren't any MRI results to report.
big time acquisition gets hurt in the 1st qtr of a game and doesnt return. Yet not a single blurb or quote from the coach saying hes fine or anything. Every other injury has had an update

A source tells NFL Network that Steven Jackson (thigh) could be out 2-4 weeks.
Officially, Jackson is "week to week." But it's not a surprise that the Falcons expect him to be slow to recover from a soft-tissue injury. Jackson is 30 years old and struggled for a month when he pulled his quad in Week 1 of the 2011 season. This pull sounds like it's of the Grade 2 variety. Jacquizz Rodgers will fill in as the starter, but he's proven incapable when given chances before (3.55 YPC, two TDs on 164 career carries). Look for the Falcons to go with an extremely pass-heavy attack and use Jason Snelling in goal-line situations. Quizz is a far better add in PPR formats.

better to be injuried now and be healthy for your playoff run (wishful thinking)

Martin, CJ, and SJ were my 3 rbs..I was cheesed up when I got them..It can only go up from here.. I think

Officially ruled out for Week 3, in case anyone hadn't posed that yet...

@AJCFalcons 15m

#Falcons coach Mike Smith ruled out Steven Jackson this week. He said, "It's short term. Don't know if that's two or three weeks."

SJax, Lacy and Vereen. Gimme a break!ETA. Seriously. FML.
In case anyone was wondering why I'm always saying that 1 RB leagues are the way to go.

Because of an injury? Save the "bust" label for players that are healthy and suck, ala David Wilson.
okay, Jackson is officially worthless. The guy in my league who took him in the 2nd drafted Rice in the first. I laughed then and I am laughing now. Going RB-RB is so effing archaic its not even funny.

There could not have been any more warning signs on Jackson that this was going to happen. If you drafted him then you just chose to live in la la land and disregard every indicator. The first quarter of week 2 the dude is done. You can say you cannot predict injuries but with 30 year old rb's with that type of mileage you can guesstimate pretty damn close.

I'm going to have to start Wilson.
