Picked up some SOFI warrants at the bottom today.  Not sure why the drop, but it's a long term hold and I don't mind the leveraged position on that one.  I'm still over double on that one.  Speaking of DM, my 31 days has passed, so loss booked.  Need to rebuy.  Hopefully still sagging on Monday.
I bought some SOFI today as well. I’m not all fancy with the warrants like all you hi-falootin’’ investors in this place.

I went straight hot-shot market order, flinging cash around like I owned the joint.

Felt good.

Depending on timing.  I may move some riot into DKNG.

Well see on timing though ...
RIOT went down as did BTC.

BTC currently at $31.8K

So, I did the opposite.  Sold my DKNG and added RIOT.

But dont worry DKNG, I'll be back after I go buy a pack of cigs.  ❤️

Maybe a dumb question, but I'll ask.

I have made $5,000 on a stock. When, or does it, make sense to re-invest that $5,000 profit (minus the capital gain taxes) into more stocks?

Is there any actual benefit to just keeping the profits on the stock investment in the account without either taking profits or re-investing?

Also, what is your general strategy for profits on stocks?

That's a tough question to answer and depends on several variables. I invested about 10k last March and my account is over 30k now.  Everything gets reinvested and I haven't sold a stock yet. However, I'm entirely new at this so I'm sure I've missed some opportunities here and there.

You need to have a plan regarding taxes. For instance, selling all 30K and claiming a 20K profit may bump you into another tax bracket. You may want to sell tranches over a period of years to avoid nightmare tax scenarios. Losses offset gains, too, so it can get complicated.

TSLA headlines: TESLA RECALLING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF CARS

 *clicks on article*

it’s a software update you can do from home
They do have a recall on lots of model S and X cars to replace the embedded Multimedia Card, which is step two after the software update. Mine is scheduled for next week. Was surprised to see it could be done by mobile, with no need to go to the service center.

CRSPR tech stocks moving on NTLA news. CRSP and EDIT up in sympathy. If this stuff starts getting proved out, could be massive future growth.

Not to mention just freaking awesome. I don’t own any of these but it’s pretty exciting.
Agreed. I knew about EDIT but never heard of NTLA. That whole space is exciting. Reminds me of mRNA vaccines, just next level stuff that could be way more frequently used. Not quite but getting closer to the SyFy stuff you see where they mix up some healing solutions during 1 episode.

Bought RSLS pre-market. Purely a gambling/momo trade. Price targets are way higher, large seller finished selling so that pressure is gone. Maker of lap-bands and other weight loss stuff. I don’t plan on being in it for very long.
Up 22% today, sold half. Selling the rest at some point today. I’m fine with singles when it’s not something I want to hold.

Would love an opinion on CFLT for someone smarter than me (meaning anyone).
I'm interested enough that I might start one of my famous small starter positions and let it go through its IPO gyrations and watch them report once or twice. Founder-led and that team is clearly passionate. It's streaming data - instead of going into databases to retrieve stagnant data, it's always moving. Smarter people than me love it.

Here's a children's book explaining the underlying open source software, Kafka, that this company created.

DNMR up 10% today.  Trimming some recently purchased shares.

Added a little bit of GOLD, DIS, and SOFI.  Still sitting 8% cash which is a high rate mark for quite some time.

Yep. I know the company very very well, but interpreting S1s is not my forte. It will be an interesting ride. Thx.

Industry Focus did a podcast with I found helpful (as I usually do.)

Link

They are adding to their watch list. I like to get a small amount when I’m interested and then see how they do (working great for $GLBE) but I understand waiting.

So how did TRCH folks do? It’s pretty damn confusing. I saw the 1 share dividend followed by a 1 for 2 reverse split which seems to literally just put you back at 1 share. So what actually happened now that the symbol changed, etc.?

I was curious too because I kept seeing that the dividend was for preferred shares but didn’t look too much beyond that. Did common share holders not even get one?

Great run this am!

I had 5 shares left.  Fidelity deducted those 5 and gave me 2 MMAT.  $23.25 on Friday is now $15.82.  I assume Fidelity will cash out the remaining TRCH/ share at $4.65.  No news on the dividend on the 5 preferred shares.

From what I read the shares got reverse split and all trch shares are converted to metamaterial shares at 1 to 1. The old meta shares converted to 3.6 to 1 to the new company.

The dividend will be payed out to all torchlight share holders that bought before June 22nd and held through June 24th. The dividend can't be payed out until the merger is complete (which happens by June 30th, but rumor is it complete at the end of today.) And torchlight sells off all their assets, which hasn't happened yet.

Dear lord that’s confusing.

Definitely, was interested but not anymore. Seems like SNOW which is basically at the IPO price back in September and most tech stocks are up nicely from September. Back in September CFLT was valued at $4.5B. It’s not triple that so based on revenue growth, the P/S ratio is a bit stretched for me. I’ll add to the watch list to see if maybe it gets back closer to the pre-open IPO price. I’m sure we’ll have some more bumps in the tech road.

I saw the writing on the wall with SNOW before their IPO. I was shocked when it jumped like it did, then vindicated when it came back down. CFLT took on less than half the funding that snowflake did, has less competition, and a more diverse client list. The 4.5B valuation was actually near the beginning of last year, but I think that stuff is hocus pocus pre-IPO. I absolutely agree with you that it will get swept in the general direction of the tech sector, though.

For those on the penny front - consider $PBYA.  Ive been stalking this non-FBG internet guy.  I already gleaned from him NWGC (sold +100%).  This is another he is thinking could pop.

Low market cap, high volume and the stock keeps fluxuating +/- 30%.

I got no idea of this is a 10-bagger or going straight to 0.  Take a look and look YMMV.  Im in 1/4 share and prepared to average down 1 time if needed.
Every once in a while a squirrel finds a nut.

Not long after that post I purchased more as I believe in what the company is trying to do.  I have a cost per share of .00153 with the stock currently at ~.008.

I am in for a small/medium share so losing it all doesnt break me.  Whats the shark move here?  Collect some profit and exit stage left?  Id really love some FU money so my heart is saying stick it out for the long run.

Can someone talk some sense into me?

I believe these guys are going to be huge.  If anyone knows a way to make $$$ from it, let me know please.  SPAC, whatever.  imo, keep your eye out
Follow them on social media. They may do a funding or Series A on their own or through a site like Startengine. We're in a couple of companies that way.

Bought some more HGEN at 17.45. This thing is still going to the moon, right? :oldunsure:
I added today as well but bought $17.50 calls expiring on 8/20 for $3.60 each.  This is either a boom or bust play anyway so may as well increase the amount of shares I have exposure too.

If they get EUA, it should shatter the premium I paid here and if they don't, well its bust.

Even some positive movement in the next week or two, should give me a chance to take some profit and get out before any decisions.

I feel like this is close to the low for now but I've been wrong before.

You know I’d take the profit and run to the next option, but I love looking at the web sites of some of these. That YouTube demo of the products for DPLS was hysterical and this web site is close. The have 3 companies and the link for the 3rd one brings you to a page with very little info. One Showcase link for 3, I assume, courses with a contact us link that goes to open an email to Juan. The Partner link is the best. It goes to the same home page (nothing past the home page besides Juan) and just simply states “We work with some pretty amazing people” and nothing more. Love this stuff, heck their main company page shows that they are working to get their filings back to current.

Thinned my FLGT holdings by 10%.  Between the 25% gain in the last month and my large Amazon holding, it's weighting in my portfolio was touching 5%.  Probably should have held, but still have plenty of exposure and looking to get my cash position to 10% in case there's a sell off soon.

eta - Which raises another question...should I consider Amazon a cash holding?
