I know the stock market is stupid and nothing means anything but is there actually a reason bad was down 10% today?
Down 2% after hours so I bought another block. Wife wants to go to Alaska next year so let’s go baby.I know the stock market is stupid and nothing means anything but is there actually a reason bad was down 10% today?
I don't have a catalyst to point towards but I mean....1st day of the month of a rocky Q3 that might have seen some managers back from vacation looking to reposition themselves for a final push to close the year? I also think so much of the volume is now algo/computers being reactionary vs human driven trades - this is conjecture on my part.
Todem likely has a better handle on it. Listen to him if he checks in. I'm not overly concerned. Yet.
A meme stock that makes billions in profits weekly in a massively growing industry? I'll beg to disagree with your assessment.NVDA might as well be a meme stock. The runup just because of AI was ridiculous. It's still overvalued in my opinion and has another 20% to go to get down where it should be.

Great points. I still think the AI boom is just starting. I'm not disagreeing with the data and that chip stocks are overvalued and need to be brought back to earth. It's needed and healthy for the long game. But both shorts and longs can win.You can both be correct.A meme stock that makes billions in profits weekly in a massively growing industry? I'm not buying, other than these companies being part of my index funds. They have us convinced AI needs special computer chips any different than the top of the line chips they churn out for literally everything ran by computer now days? The same AI google has responding to my searches unsolicited that gets things completely wrong? AI has a long way to go and maybe it's worth investing for the next decade, but, the runup we've seen the last eight months. No way.Great points. I still think the AI boom is just starting. The ChatGPT, openAI and social media & search engine AI isn't the only AI I'm investing in. It's the life changing stuff. What a calm and reasonable take. We could really use you in the Politics Foru........oh wait.
Yeah, I remember people trashing Google when it IPOd at $85 20 years ago because how on earth are they ever going to make any money?!?!?!111.
"No way is it worth $85/share. It's a zero!"
Yeah, the tech sector is frothy. Yes, it was overdue for a pullback. But I think we are in the very early innings of AI and need to all pause and catch our collective breath before making definitive conclusions on how this will play out.

Um, yes actually, it’s completely different. Microsoft is now spending 40% of their CapEX on NVDA, up from 10% a year ago. META spends close to that as well on their chips. So is your hypothesis that Nvidia has them (and everyone else) fooled?
That’s not to say NVDA isn’t overvalued, maybe it is. But saying they “convinced us” their chips are different when they aren’t is just incredibly factually incorrect.

I own 4, $20 DJT puts expiring 10/18. Bought them after reading an article a few months ago, I can't seem to finf now, how the lock up period for insiders is end of September. A week or so earlier if the stock price is over $20. Given the valuation, I don't see how there won't be a race for the exits.

Maybe it is a special sauce. Really it's NVDA's specialization and software (and their corner on the market) that distinguishes them from AMD or INTL. I mean TSMC actually foundries (makes) the chips. Like I said before, it's not the chips. It is odd that Intel can't come up with a nvdia clone. It isn't some special sauce.

MSFT or GOOG should have AI just make a better software and architecture for itself. I'm sure there are all kinds of patents and copyright wars going on.
Agree, and having your chips fabricated by a third party does not necessarily equal your chips being a commodity. TSMC can make chips without owning the design itself. It's not like you can walk in there and ask for "generic NVDA" for you to sell. There's more to a chip than just node size and pitch, so you can't a priori assume that a company doesn't have a competitive advantage just because they use a contract manufacturer.I'm not arguing valuation or anything here, but the idea that NVDA isn't simply performing better as a business than their competitors or that's all due to luck is a strange take. They are always ahead of not just the Intel dumpster fire, but everyone else.

Yeah, NVDAs growth is clearly slowing but from a very high level. Hard to know what it will settle at. At face value, it comparatively looks pretty reasonably priced with a forward PE about the same as Apple and Microsoft.I'm not arguing valuation or anything here, but the idea that NVDA isn't simply performing better as a business than their competitors or that's all due to luck is a strange take. Reminds me of AMZN and AAPL. They have been overvalued for 25+ years and you would be a sucker to buy it.
Speaking of meme stocks, how is GME still above 20?
This is from a week ago, but geez, is this the best that they can come up with after 3 years of Ryan Cohen and all the $$$ that the current shareholders poured into the company to keep it afloat?

Do they not realize that there are emulators that let you run all these old game systems on your PC? Amazing that they are back at hoping retro brick and mortar will save them.
Retail investors own a lot of these meme stocks and damn if they are going to eat it over the next decade or so. A good chunk of them really believe still and probably have most of their investments in GME/AMC. Anyone who has a lot of other investments can read through the fundamentals.
