I liked him in smaller doses when he was the douchy NYC Boss...the knowitall kid with a degree and no sales or practical experience bossing around the sales manager with all of the practical experience...and the dynamic of how Michael once considered himself Ryan’s mentor, now being pushed around by him....
I am pretty sure Ryan was a writer and/or producer of the show and that is one reason he didn’t have a more prominent on screen role, at least I think I read something like that once. Same may be true with Toby possibly?
I've enjoyed it so far. I think my favorite part about the series so far is the music, clothes, and food/beverages from the 90's that we often forget about. Spin Doctors, Surge, Jolt...It also helps the series is based on high school freshmen when in 1996, which is when I was a high school freshman. However, there are some things that belong more in the early 90's that I've noticed on the show - nobody was wearing Zubaz anymore in '96, especially not in high school. The bright colors and wacky shapes theme was definitely more early 90's than mid-late 90's. That being said, I think it's pretty well done and I actually look forward to watching the rest of it.
Yeah, BJ Novak (Ryan) was the writer, director, and executive producer. Probably had a lot to do with it.
Yep, same with Mindy Kaling (sp), at least periodically. My two least favorite characters ironically.

I have about 4 episodes left in the series. It slowed down for me sometime around mid season 3. Good show overall.
I can't speak on The Push, but he uses NLP concepts such as anchoring to elicit states. The bank robbery was all about risk and seizing the moment. He used a Jackson 5 song and the color bright green to anchor those mind states and to trigger them at the correct time. Hypnosis is a big part of it also. He debunks psychics and mentalists but knows their tricks. He can tell you what song you're singing in your head.... Because he put it there.
Chronologically, go with Jessica Jones, then Luke Cage, then Iron Fist, then Defenders. For me, the first 2/3 of Luke Cage was the best stretch of the shows, but most prefer JJ.
I notice with my kids, they love The Office and just can't tolerate Seinfeld. It's the laugh track... Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock, and Parks wrecked sitcoms with laugh tracks for me - it seems that the same is true for my kids, who never watched a show with a laugh track and can't handle it.
Right. Other than MS, those two were terrible. Other than when Ryan set up the blog for that one guy which was just a Word document.
I haven't heard many positive comments about Iron Fist. I chose to skip it and don't think I really missed much when I saw the Defenders. He's a pretty lame character IMO.
That must have been what they were all doing in the back room.
That's a show I can take in small doses. The premise is good, and there are more than a couple laugh out loud moments each episode, but the quirkiness gets a bit over the top after a few consecutive binge watching episodes. I can certainly understand how someone would come away from it and hate it completely.

Couldn't stand him at first, but he soon became my favorite part of the show. I'm pretty sure he's just playing a professionally written version of himself.
