Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (9 Viewers)

I liked it. I read that it was billed as "the European Stranger Things". Despite the central characters being kids and some 80's retro references it wasn't really like Stranger Things at all. I dig time travel/alternate universe stories so it was in my wheelhouse. Dark was a heavy series, a lot of drama. It wasn't something I thought my kids would want to watch with me. It didn't have any humor mixed in like Stranger Things. There were so many characters that I kind of got lost at times on who was who, but it was a good watch. Interested to see the final season when it comes out. It was a weird coincidence that both current seasons of Dark and Stranger Things ended with a Peter Gabriel cover song. EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED!
I agree - to me it wasn't like ST at all. Not like any other show I have seen but season 1 did sort of remind me a more bleak Twin Peaks

Uh....did I just see a preview for a Dolemite movie starring Eddie Murphy that will air on Netflix this fall or did I just have a wonderful wonderful dream?

Mesmer is the kid from Sixth Sense.
The Boys is fantastic, definitely *super*seded expectations.

We caught that that was Haley Joel Osment from his eyes alone. Looks completely different, physically, but once you notice, seems like it's impossible to miss.
I saw him right away... but he's been in a couple of things I've watched lately- Silicon Valley and Future Man (which I've mentioned here recently)

Can someone change the thread title to ***OFFICIAL*** All-Encompassing TV Show Thread?

Finished Dark last week.  As someone else has said, trying to solve the puzzle of who did what and why keeps this interesting.

Zipped through Chernobyl.  Very well done.  Highly recommend.

Next to start are both Succession and The Terror, which release weekly.  So will fill the gaps with second season of Mindhunter.

Also working through season 2 of The OA with the wife.

I'm a few eps into S2 of Future Man...doesn't hit the highs of S1 so far, but still pretty out there funny
I think it's doing more meta stuff with the writing this season- and some painfully obvious current socio/political satire. the last episode I watched was set up like a law & order episode, which was goofy and great.

while wolf/torque continues to slay, tiger gets to stretch more this season playing an alter-ego and is obviously having fun- she's killing it too. even futterman and haley joel osment are doing great with their roles.

Finished 12 Monkeys on Hulu this past weekend...top 3 sci fi show if not the best ever imo, and easily the very best time travel show ever. I was floored by how well-constructed and satisfying the entire four seasons were, from the first scene to the series finale. Incredibly well written, well-acted, and I'm flabbergasted that ScyFy had this and The Expanse running at the same time. Wow.

Looking for a new show may give this a shot.

wow- high praise.

my wife watched the entire series- I caught some episodes which didn't jump out to me. looks like i'll have to revisit that.

Imo it's something that really benefits from binging because the type of detail they made sure to put into the early seasons that all fit into the puzzle in later seasons is incredible. For that reason even if you don't know it at the time, there's very little filler. It walks the line between taking itself seriously where it matters and having fun with the rest. The budget gets larger as the show goes on but it was never "bad" if you're used to most sci-fi shows not being GOT level in terms of budget.

We've been watching Curfew on Spectrum on demand. It's deathrace 2000 meets 28days later meets ... Billy Zane.

About as good/bad as it sounds...but somehow watchable.

Wife and I finished season 2 of The Sinner.  It was good, Bill Pullman really has mastered his character’s socially awkward/uncomfortableness.  The mom kept vacillating between oddly attractive and maddening because it sounded like she had marbles in her mouth

Mindhunter season 2 is a waste of time.  Was hoping they could improve on season 1.  It's like they dont even know what makes the show good.  Season was a whole lot of nothing.
Lol, the opening scene was epic.  There were parts of episode two where I stood up... just randomly standing in my living room...I expect the rest of the season will get even better.

We started S2 last night. It's only okay so far for me. The same problem I had with S1 - Holden is a terribly written & acted character - is in full effect here. Every other character seems to be more interesting than him.

Finished it off yesterday.

Really enjoyed it.

At the very least on a par with S1.

Personally I liked the main character storylines more than  S1's.

He doesnt really do anything the whole season.

I finished up watching the 1996 documentary "The West." Man was that depressing. I had also been reading about the history of indigenous peoples in the U.S. prior to that which led me into the show. Also depressing.

a few more in... it is far from perfect with plenty of eye-rolling writing/story decisions... but it still somehow works.

anybody else watching Curfew on Spectrum? (only on demand).
