Finished S1 of "The Boys" and liked it well enough. It was mostly pretty fun to watch. Not sure where it goes from here but I'm along for the ride.

Wu Assassin is awful, but for some reason the Mrs. likes it.

I'm only 2 episodes in, but its entertaining enough.

Its obviously an Emmy award winner, but its got cool action, a couple of hot girls, and the arrogant dude from The Big Short.

a few more in... it is far from perfect with plenty of eye-rolling writing/story decisions... but it still somehow works.

anybody else watching Curfew on Spectrum? (only on demand).
Ends as it started. Not great. But it all somehow congeals into something kinda worth watching.

I know it's Amazon Prime, but wife and I watched latest Gaffigan special....not his best work.

After 3 eps, this is continued good stuff.
I had a dream the other night that Tench was my boss. We were driving around together and I pulled over to get my dry cleaning. Tench goes into the shop with me and the dry cleaner is telling me that my clothes won't be ready for two weeks. "It's how things are done now," he says. Tench walks back to the car, grumbling, as the owner just ignores me complaining about their new business model.

Tell me about your mother...

S2E1 of Mindhunter was great.  The first 3 minutes, as has been mentioned, were incredibly creepy and good.  Can't wait to see how they build toward that end of things.

Mindhunter season 2 is a waste of time.  Was hoping they could improve on season 1.  It's like they dont even know what makes the show good.  Season was a whole lot of nothing.
huh. I'm only 3 in, but it's been really good so far across the board. feel like they're continuing much of the same themes as S1- background on the FBI unit and their study of these types of crimes and criminals, along with getting into some of the crimes while active and being investigated. that along with the overall vibe of the show- creepy- is what made S1 good, IMO. plus, no GF so far. if the rest of the season is like these first eps, I'm all in.

interesting to hear your disapproval... are you saying it gets bad, or just didn't like it from the get-go? without spoilering anything past ep3, what do you think they lost from s1 that made the show good?

It's such a weird show.  They spend the first episode or two establishing that Kai is now the super powerful Wu Assassin, with the power of the 1000 monks, and then they go 4 straight episodes with Kai doing nothing to engage his Wu Assassin powers.

Side note: if you dig the Manhunter series, there's some good videos on YouTube of the real FBI agents (and academic) that the fictional characters are based on.

The minds behind Manhunter is over an hour, but it flies by.  I could listen to them tell stories all day.

Just finished Mindhunter S2E4 -- agree with everything that's said. The overall series is such an incredible idea, and have really enjoyed the characters despite them being caricatures -- save for Carr who is getting some interesting side-story depth, the rest are showing some Ned Flanders effect -- Holden getting way too precocious and Beautiful Mind-esque, Tench being more gruff, etc. Just starting not to believe and thus invest in the main characters as much.

It's the interviews with the killers that keep this fascinating for me.

But the sideplot that developed with Tench in this Episode 4 tipped it for me to being almost farcical. Not sure how you can go from that situation at home to literally sitting in the office the same/next day so focused and engaged on the case so cooly and detached. That's a life-shattering development that just comes out as Carr telling Tench he looks a little tired.

For a series so grounded in reality, kinda poked a big hole in the experience for me for some reason.

Still going to watch the entire way through, though -- it's a great breath of fresh air in terms of viewing enjoyment.

that's a pretty fair criticism, as far as I'm concerned. really, for me, the less time spent on their personal lives the better. i'd rather see them put that time towards what happens in the field and in the office. it's "Mindhunter" and not "The Office (US)".

Yeah.  That was an unforced error.  The wife has as much screen time as Ford this season.

My biggest complaint is that imo they didnt build off the science and the interviews this season.  They were almost comic relief compared to the ed kemper interviews last season.

Their wasnt enough of Holden doing Holden stuff this year.  He felt sidelined.  Just too much of the Tench/wife and the ATL storyline was kind of a letdown.

The season was lacking the chilling moments that season one had.

I think that is the coolest gif I’ve ever seen.
Bollywood gifs are a freakin hoot. I knew the gif I was looking for and found it pretty quick but still spent about 10 minutes looking at more of them. It's a kind of storytelling that is frankly pretty awesome.

I gave this show a lot of room for error due to the lead actor appearing in one of my favorite movies over the past decade. (The  Raid)

Overall I think it was way below average but will be in for the next season.

Mindhunter S2E2...I was not expecting that interview.  Totally enthralling.  Is that actually where the "truth" about that killer came out?  I thought it was well known from the beginning.

it's a show about serial killers and other awful people. you'll need to be more specific when you say *that* killer, please..

Sorry, was referring to the killer interviewed in episode 2 of season 2.  Not spoilering, not using spoiler tags.  Figure folks who have seen that episode will know who I'm referring to.

I finished The Boys and I echo all the good things people have said about it.  Another very solid entry in Amazon's underrated lineup.

100% agree. It would also help to bring more scenes with the killers themselves. Almost all of them - and especially the actor plying Kemper -- are phenomenal in terms of both embodying the personalities and mannerisms of the real people they are portraying, and giving those scenes truly chilling moments based on their acting skills.

I hope I don't hurt any feelings, but The Trailer Park Boys aren't funny. Even a little.
Wait, @jdoggydogg. @jdoggydogg, wait.

Trailer Park Boys are majestics. Barrel-chested. The envys of all mobile unit denizens. They are leaders. Born and bred leaders. Trailer Park Boys are van-f$#@*n'-garde. Avant-f$#@*'-garde. Guardians of the f$#@*n' galaxy!

You wanna know what? You got a problem with the Trailer Park Boys, you got a problem with me, and I suggest you let that one marinate.

Wonder if you'd like this Canadian-based series better?

I wish you weren't so f'n awkward bud.

I tried Letterkenny and made it through 2 or 3 episodes.  There were a few good laughs, but its basically the same joke over and over.
I tried Letterkenny and bailed after the first episode. Same for TPB. I'm good with Canadian comedy that makes it over the border - Kim's Convenience, KITH, Schiitt's Creek, - as well as their recent dramatic fare - Sensitive Skin, Intelligence off the top of my head - but TPB and Letterkenny went over like a turd in a punchbowl with me.

To each his own. I love them both and think they are hilarious, but I will say both pale in comparison to the gold standard that was SCTV.
