Watched the first three episodes of the new Dexter. A lot going on.
We watched the first 2. I didn’t think it was all that great but the wife liked it
I just let my paramount subscription expire so I’ll probably wait a few more weeks to renew and then catch up

Finished THE BEAR over the weekend. I liked S2 the best. S4 was ok. Didn't seem like a lot actually happened though. Some good episodes in every season.

Solid cliffhanger may make me watch S5.

I would say some excellent character development and arcs over the 4 seasons.

Binged the first season of Murderbot, was mentioned in here a few times for the first few episodes but the season finale aired about a week ago. Thought it was great, had some very funny parts even if its not LOL type comedy. Thought Skarsgard did a great job and the finale was sad but also sweet and could have served as a good overall finale if it hadn't of been renewed. Agree with some early comments that the episodes are pretty short and sure felt like they could have expanded on them more, perhaps they will do some more world-building and explore the space a little more next season. Definitely in for season 2 (renewed thankfully) and hope it's not a long wait.

Agree with all of this. Enjoyable show with decent humor and plot line. I really liked the development of the bot/leader relationship.

Did it get picked up for s2?

I was curious while watching it this weekend and yes, Apple announced it was renewed the same week the finale aired.

Looks like it was about a year between when filming wrapped last year and when the show started airing so unfortunately probably means no season 2 until sometime in 2027 though.

Finished up S1 and S2 of Tires (Netflix). Gotta love 20ish-minute shows. Basically a half hour raunchy sitcom without commercials.

Looks like Kilah has  for Cal. Love it.

I haven't reviewed any previous pages, so if it's already been mentioned, it's ok because it's worth it.

The Billy Joel Doc "And So It Goes" on HBO Max is great! It's the kind of documentary that if I didn't have HBO, I would be willing to pay for a month's subscription just to see it.
Episode 1 released on July 18.
Episode 2 releases on July 25.

For the competition reality fans. The one with the most physically intensive and unique events is back.
(and the only series where the GOAT is a literal 1-handed person born with symbrachydactyly that has actually won it all - 5 times!)

The Challenge: Vets and New Threats (Season 41)

I'm glad they will have new blood (includes former Marines, Survivor, (way too many from) Big Brother, Canada's Ultimate Challenge, Amazing Race, pro sports, some self-proclaimed fitness/physical trainers, and reality 'dating' type competitors). This isn't sitting around on a couch or laying on the beach...
Cast list

Gotta love the promo quote: 'The heaviest things some of the b's have lifted are their eyelashes.' LOL

Day 0 = 'Fast' way to choose the initial pairings of old + new: In the desert - Race up and back down a 5,479 foot mountain. Not the 'finale' event... just the beginning.
Love it when humans test their limits.

PS - an Amazing Race competitor came in first on the mountain run... not a vet. Nice target on your back - Game on!

Well, From went down the crapper pretty quick for me. Horrible season IMO.
I finished binge watching this the other night. While I generally like it, I do have some criticisms that may or may not make sense. When I went into this, my thinking was that this was going to be a 3 season story arc. so that thinking may have influenced my perception of this show. I didn't really like season 2 that much. I thought it was overly melodramatic and I had felt like it veered away from the main storyline. Of course, I don't know exactly where they are going with it, but for me, I had felt like season 1 and 3 flowed together a little more. They certainly do reference the events of season 2, so it could be more important to the story than I thought--hey, I said my thoughts may or may not make sense. Skimmed the reviews on IMDB, and it seems like most people disliked season 3, but I liked it better than season 2. They are doing a 4th season, which comes out in 2026. I think it's worth watching, but it's time to wrap this up and not drag it out.

The Bear hits a lot of targets for me. I enjoy seeing the inner workings of an upscale kitchen and love seeing the Chicago scenery. I honestly thought they wrapped up season 4 with ep 8. The last two, while powerful, didn't really add to the overall story. S4 got pretty weepy. I get emotion, but I can only take so much of that in a season.

Like you, I thought S2 was the best. Hopefully S5 will wrap everything up with some good closure on a few of the storylines that are lingering...

Loved this series. The books by Martha Wells are all short novella style stories. I think they were trying to emulate that in the episode design. Can't wait for S2.

Finished up S1 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and generally loved it. Kinda got hokie a bit, but both the original and TNG did the same. Gotta find S2 and 3 out now!

La Palma (Netflix)

Not great, but you could do worse. TONS of plot armor and unnecessary stupid actions by the characters but hey, how else could Netflix stretch 1.5 episodes worth of story into 4?

I’ll watch season 4 but it will probably be background noise when I’m doing something.

I think season 4 or 5 will be the end. One thing that gives me hope is that unlike Lost, they already know the story and how it will end.

But the story as they see it is losing me. I’ll hope for the best but much like Yellowjackets it had a lot of promise at the start and has kind of disappointed IMO.

The Lost
(Försvunna människor)
MHz Choice, Tubi

6-part drama about an event gone terribly terribly wrong for 2 everyday people. Does a real good job building tension and maintaining it, and a good job showing people responding badly to events they can no longer control. I thought it was surprisingly well done, except for the last event gone wrong in the last episode which was totally contrived and not believable. Still way more good than bad in the show, IF you like unrelenting tension.

Untamed (Netflix) - 6/10

Binged this recently with my wife. Scenery is beautiful and the story itself is interesting but otherwise it’s a run of the mill cold case type detective story where lead detective is a grizzled vet with a tragic past and therefore a drinking problem. He’s then assisted by the seemingly incompetent younger female officer who does something great eventually to help solve the case. There's even a spiritual minority (in this case the opposing of a foreigner but it's the same idea) who provides some wisdom and insight along the way. So, yeah, tropes galore.

After the end of each episode my wife and I looked at each other to see if the plan was to continued. Each time we agreed it was just interesting enough to keep going. There are a few “twists” near the end and they weren't terrible but most were predictable yet unrealistic.

Good enough to watch if you like mysteries but to me this fails when compared to shows like Dark Winds and Department Q which are just better versions of the same.

Sneaky Pete is good a few episodes in.

Watching Amy Bradley is missing…..so far my take away is don’t take your daughter on a cruise that visits places that have a lot of human trafficking.

We watched Untamed. It was decent. Worth watching imo……even though the CGI deer looked horrible, and not the correct species.

Started watching Ballard on Prime. Interesting enough. Similar to Bosch (and has Bosch cameos throughout) but not quite as good. Haven't finished the first season yet (I think I have three episodes left) but it's entertaining with a good enough story so far to keep going.

Started Untamed on Netflix.
2 episodes in.
Suspicious death in a national park. Eric Bana, deals with personal demons while leading the investigation. Familiar formula but it's done well enough with some decent scenery.
I'm sticking with it.

I made it 10 minutes into episode 2 and pulled the plug.

SPOILER ALERT: Bana telling the rookie ranger that the park is 100,000 acres (or however large it was) and “good luck searching for clues from people entering the park at the five major highway entrances” seemed warranted. He then proceeds to ride a horse around and in a matter of hours he finds, all in differing locations, the victim’s shoes, the victim’s pill bottle, markings made by the victim in a cabin, and a bullet ricochet mark on a rock? Nope. Silly. Peace out for me.
When I first read this I took it to mean Kenny Bana was the lead for the investigation and the idea of this show took a whole different approach....ha

oh boy... I've been side-eyeing this one. but I thought Bosch was really weak, so if this isn't up to that low bar it sounds like I'll skip this one.

Its a crime procedural. I really liked Bosch so to each their own. What was weak about Bosch to you? (and I am not talking about that weak Bosch Legacy crap).

Iirc, it was the Writing and acting (latter more about the writing than the actors, who are mostly good). Just found it badly written and goofy. I think i soldiered through the 1st couple seasons due to interest here, but just couldnt any more and happily pulled the plug. Im sure i wrote about it back then... I'd have to find those posts to remember more specifics.

Lol...just found my posts about Bosch. After the first season i was highly meh- the writing - but not noting that it was awful. Next few posts after trying S2 is when it went south in my reviews...especially after the fact when it turned to "terrible" for some reason.

I'm binging Legacy right now. S3 is starting to get a little repetitive and I do skip a lot of the daughter scenes, but by and large I think it's at the same level quality wise as the main series entries.

The daughter was just so unbelievable as a cop that it really took away from the story for me. I thought it would have been decent if not for her. She was just too unbelievable in that role.

Was there a mountain lion or other big game involved?

Not that I remember....must be a joke in here somewhere that I am missing.

Just the first season. Thought it was good but kind of a one trick pony. Started the 2nd season and it was just the same thing over again. Got pretty repetitive.

Repetitive until that mountain lion, you mean! (Later season, and involving the daughter)

That's fair. Like I said, I skipped a lot of her solo plotline. The Bosch-centered storyline from the first couple seasons is as good or better than most of the main series though, I think.

Better than the season of Bosch where they tried to make his daughter a main storyline, but not as great as some of the early seasons of Bosch.

But some of the acting, even by Maggie Q at times, was bad.

Wife didn't watch it with me, but one night I had an episode on and about halfway through she said "man, there is some bad acting in this, what the heck are you watching?" :lmao:
