Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (13 Viewers)

I saw that How to Train Your Dragon 2 is up.

Not sure if the first HTTYD is on but both are very good fun movies.

Went back and gave House of Cards another go. I am about 5 episodes in, and it is very good. Almost too intricate, as my dumb ### seems to be missing how a couple people/things tie in.
I was annoyed by Spacey's accent and his talking to the camera early on. But overall, the show is excellent and I am really glad I stuck with it.

I gave up about halfway through the first episode. I can't stand Spacey and am not really into political dramas.

I might go back and give it another shot some day.

The Returned (French) may or may not be on Netflix, but A&E (or maybe AMC) has been showing it lately. We watched it when it was first broadcast in the US... one of my favorite shows of the last couple years- very creepy, well shot and acted. I think the US network showing it here is remaking it verbatim (ABC did a horrible take-off of it), and I think there's a second season supposed to be released of the French version.
I saw a billboard in the subway for this. I guess that's the remake?

I see it on A&E. That's the French version? It's showing it as new.

IIRC, the original version is from France, then it was remade in the US. At least once directly, then indirectly through some similar genre shows that came out at the same time.
The French version is very good. Is there another season coming to Netflix?

Didn't like his accent? Is that because you know it is not his real accent? Personally I think he nailed it and I don't mind it at all.

ETA: The show lost some steam for me with the big event towards the end of season one*, but I recalibrated my expectations and am sticking with it and still enjoying it a good deal (S2E1 was awesome). Will probably finish season three tonight actually.

Killing senator what's his face in the car.
At that point I realized it wasn't going to be the show I really thought it was trying to be but I accepted it and moved on.

1st season might be on Netflix.

as far as I know, the 2nd season hasn't aired yet (here or France).

ABC or one of the other majors did a "version" of the returned that was god-awful.. last year?. Lasted a season... maybe two.

A&E has been showing the 1st season of the French version and appears to have completely remade the French Version. I haven't seen the new version to comment on accuracy (I think it's one or two episodes in), but I think it's the same script- down to character names and even episode names. the thing is- the french version worked because of lots of intangibles: acting, directing, lighting, editing, scenery/site, overall creepy quality that came through all aspects of the process. Seems very easy to #### that up, even if the characters are the same and even saying the same things.

I watched the A&E premiere and thought it was good enough to keep on the DVR schedule for now. Haven't watched the French version so can't compare.

Based on some list of "best movies streaming right now..." watched Short Term 12. Did not disappoint. Very solid movie. Drama with some comedy sprinkled in. Highly recommend.

:goodposting:

one of my favorites of last year. One scene was a bit out of place, but otherwise thought it was great.

I did the same thing. I never "disliked" it, but just kind of stopped watching. I recently picked back up on it and am glad that I did.

Also echo the positive sentiments of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I only watched a few episodes, but it is a lot of fun and fits that niche of something you can turn on for a shorter time commitment. I'm anxious to see more Martin Short, as I'm a big fan of his.

The French version of The Returned is on Netflix streaming. I have the other one on my dvr. Might watch both of the first episodes and see which I like more.

Thanks for the Kimmy Schmidt rec. I'll give it a shot. I was about to cancel the streaming with so much on, and coming up, on TV. Looks like I might keep it a little longer.

Might have to check out Bojack Horseman too.

I don't like it because it sounds very affected. Doesn't mean you don't get to like it.

"Tammy" with Melissa McCarthy.

This may be the worst movie I've ever seen.

Scratch that. "Museum Hours" was the worst movie I've ever seen, and that's in a stratosphere all it's own. Not likely to ever be surpassed.

But this movie "Tammy", is certainly in a race with a short list of others trying to place 2nd. It is that bad.

i watched kon tiki the new one on netflicks this weekend and it was pretty good even if it had a bunch of scandies in it bromigos

If you're in the mood for some old school: Hell is for Heroes with Steve McQueen. Interesting how much Saving Private Ryan borrowed from this film.

steve mcqueen is basically what cool looks like in a person bromigos and you can indeed take that to the bank like a bullett

Anyone else looking forward to the new Netflix series Bloodlines that gets released March 20th?

Contracted

Dude bangs a corpse in the morgue and contracts a zombie STD and gives it to a girl during a 1 night stand....what ensues is pretty gross....including maggots in the vajay :X

Anyone watch bloodlines?

Been watching The returned (French) and have been very entertained.

Love the scenery and music.

Some boons as as usual with euro stuff, some pecker.

No way. Tammy started out slow but you gotta love the scene where she donned the mcdonald's type mask. Hilarious.

"Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"

Episode 6 - Kimmy goes for her GED. Episode 6.

Richard Kind as the teacher; "My teaching may be unconventional, but..."

:lmao:

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is awesome.
It's a little inconsistent, but holy crap, the joke-per-minute ratio is off the charts. So MANY little funny things that if you aren't paying attention for the 4 seconds its on the screen you will miss. I LOVE this show and I love the rapid fire jokes that are made. I could watch this all day.
This show is hilarious. Might have to watch it a couple times to catch all the jokes.

"My floor is warped. All of my cats are piling up in one corner."

:lmao:

Glad I checked this thread and found out about this. Hadn't even heard of it before. Hilarious.
4 episodes in, hooked.
Lets Hear it for Breakfast!
Watched the first episode...hilarious! Definitely in.

Didn't realize Ellie Kemper was the star. Big fan, especially after seeing her BJ video.
Finished this last night. Really enjoyed it.

Not everything works on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. For example, Jane Krakowski can't act.

But the show makes me laugh a lot, and that's all that matters.

The characters are pretty much universally outlandish, to the point the mole-woman lead is the most sane one. It made me laugh a fair amount though.

Tina Fey's guest spot over the final too episodes was pretty terrible. John Hamm made up for it though.

I thought the pilot of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was just OK but based on the reviews here, I'll be sure to stick with it. I still am only half way through the recent season of House of Cards so it might be awhile.

Any other opinions on Bloodlines?

Two episodes in, Bloodline is pretty good.

.
Watched most of episode 1. Can't say I'm hooked but I will keep watching. I actually found it a little confusing, but I wasn't giving it my full attention.
After watching the first episode, I have no desire to watch any more. The show is boring and the "tease" for whats to come isn't interesting because I don't care about the characters.
I just completed episode 3.

50 minutes into the first episode I didn't think I would watch another one, and then in the final 5 minutes of the first episode I decided to give the second episode a shot.

By the end of episode 2 I realized I'd be semi-binge watching the rest of it. It's very good. A bit disjointed in the way it goes back and forth from past to present, but it settles in well by midway through episode 3.

Sort of like a not so intense version of True Detective.

Yeah, I'm not loving it. I've watched 3 episodes. I thought the first couple scenes of episode 1 were fantastic. I probably laughed more in those couple scenes (up through them being on The Today Show) than the rest of the first 3 episodes combined. It just has too much of an NBC/network tv feel to me. I've just become so accustomed to Netflix productions or foreign shows that most of the stuff that comes out of NBC/ABC/CBS/Fox seem like crap to me.

It does seem like a show my wife would like, though. Since there's not much we watch together, maybe I'll introduce her to it and we can watch it together. I'm not saying it sucks. I just don't love it like others have.

Agreed. The whole Marcia Clarke/Chris Darden parody was really sad.
