Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (75 Viewers)

Watched Olympus Has Fallen. Fun action movie, but jeez, it couldn't have ripped off Die Hard any more if Gerard Butler had kept saying "yippie kai yay, mother####er."

Starlet

I believe that is the name. It's an Indie film and earns the NC-17 rating with a very nice porn shoot in the middle however this is a real movie and the sex is secondary. Mariel Hemmingway's daughter is in it and they use some a lot of camera tricks to film the porn shoots, obviously she is not actually banging Manuel Ferrara and yes they got a real porn star for the male stand in, you get to see him in all his glory.

Now you read that and you say OK MOP, try that when the Mrs is not around, NO NO NO, there is an excellent story here.

21 year old girl(Hemmingway) goes to a yard sale and buys a relic from the old woman who is 85 years old and she discovers a secret inside which I won't tell you but she befriends or tries to befriend the old lady. The story is about the relationship that builds between the 2 of them and I found myself welling up a couple times watching this.

It's Indie, It's raw, lot of san Fernando Valley in this so that brought back memories I had of SoCal. Encourage you to watch it and let us know what you think. Netflix streaming, starts off a bit slow but for no budget it's pretty good.

4/5 stars for me.

I watched the first tape in V/H/S 2, not as good as VHS1, do the other tapes get better?
OMG no, they're all awful.
I disagree, the 2nd episode is pretty unusual and interesting, the third is just balls-to-the-wall crazy. The third is great stuff.
I watched the 2nd episode last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Interesting perspective.
ok, I'll keep watching then. I thought VHS 1 had a few strong stories.

:blackdot: I'm sure it's been mentioned in here but Luther is a great show. Stringer Bell with a British accent can be a bit disconcerting however.
I liked Luther, but it was a bit far fetched at times. Idris is good though.
Finished the first season. Got ridiculous and sloppy by the end. Although I could stare at Ruth Wilson's mouth all day. It was decent but I don't think anyone is missing anything.

The Fall with Gillian Anderson was far superior and definitely worth checking out.

Terrible.

Blancanieves is a 2012 silent film from Spain about a female bullfighter and based on the Snow White myth.

No wait, come back! It's worth 104 minutes of your time. The black and white cinematography is beautiful, the score evocative and the acting top notch from a cast of Felliniesque grotesques. Any 21st century silent movie is a gimmick but Blancanieves seemed less gimmicky than The Artist if that's worth anything. The small screen isn't the best medium for silent movies, there were a couple of times where my attention lagged but overall I found it to be entertaining. If you don't trust me, Roger Ebert was a big champion of the film in the last year of his life.

Don't you have like 100 movies to review, Ebert?

I saw it mentioned on a few sites, will try and load it on my list.

I'm totally gonna do that.

We're talking Netflix streaming. In the real world, VHS 2 would get 2 out of 5 stars. But on the Netflix scale it gets 3 to 3 1/2.

Flight. 4/5

Really good movie and performances all around. I found myself rooting for Whip to make the right decisions, especially towards the end.

Watched a documentary about our business relationship with China called "Death By China." As you can tell by the title, it's got a certain point of view, but jebus there's some eye-opening information tucked away in there.

Europa Report and an excellent Sci-Fi flick which is was released this past summer. I'm shocked the streaming netflix picked it up so quickly, but it's an very great movie.

I am sure someone has mentioned the BBC Series Luther. Another great BBC series. I enjoyed it as much as Sherlock, which if you haven't checked out, you should. It is also available on Netflix right now.Anyway, Seasons 1 and 2 of Luther are available for instant viewing. If you are a fan of Stringer Bell from The Wire, you will love this. I had no idea Idris Elba was British. This guy is a ####### great actor. 4/5

The IT Crowd - Story about two IT workers in a British conglomerate and their inept boss. Just finished Season 1 and the first episode of season 2. Very Funny

The Expendables 2

Excellent action film, great cameos, some cheesy dialogue when they are not fighting. Opening 12 minute scene I believe they kill about 147 people and many of them have their heads blown off their shoulders, was one of the most badass opening 12 minutes in an action flick I have ever seen or can remember. I skip this type of stuff at the theater but this was good. Some great hand to hand combat mixed in as well, if you haven't seen it I would drink a couple beers and enjoy this.

Average at best.

They substituted bloody explosive dismemberments for any sense of real action or tension.

I know I am miserably late to the party but finally getting around to Friday Night Lights. Nearly done with season 1 and really like it.

Most of the story was boring and was about things that really did not matter. Also, they did not really develop the characters as well as they could have.

Alaska: The Last Frontier. About a family living in Alaska. They live off the land, essentially have 4 months to gather all their meat, fish and firewood for the whole year. Rugged folks. The show is addicting.

Blackfish-Documentary that really goes inside the Sea World tragedies and serious detail about Tilikum which is the orca who killed the trainer in Orlando. It's well worth watching, was just out earlier this year. Not any longer than 90 minutes, think most will enjoy.

Is the tragedy the way we treat Orca's or allowing a "trainer" to be in the tank with an orca with a violent history?

I thought it was sad the way we treat those Orca's but I was eating cheeseburgers and hot wings at the time. Each of which have a far worse life.
