Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (13 Viewers)

Outstanding, smart BBC drama starring Bill Nighy and Rachel Weisz. Intelligent and adult, highly recommended for fans of British drama.

Power watching Star Trek the Next Generation, currently on season 6.

Oy Vey this Klingon kid is an audible cue to hit the fast forward button.

Dexter is pretty good so far. Looking forward to the rest of season 1.

National Lampoon's Christmas is on right now. Always awesome.
Stop at the end of season 1. Or at least shortly after that. Trust me :(
End of Season 4 should be the stopping point.
Season 5 is as good or even better than 2 and 3 but that is absolutely as far as I would push it.
I'd even go as far as saying watch Season 6 and think of that as the final episode. Season 7 was alright at first but by far had the worlds worst final episode of any show I've ever seen. It pissed me off actually.Season's 1, 2 and 4 are perfect for binge watching on Netflix.

If you enjoy the series I'd also recomend getting the books it was based off of. Really good stories and now that you know what the characters look like you can visualize it much better.
I haven't seen S7 (dreading that one) but I did like 6.
Pretend season 6 is the last one. I actually liked that season too. Had a few fun twists.
I stand by my season 1 statement. The rest were a mixed bag at best and horrible at worst.

Just joined Netflix. 30 day free trial and all.

I like it so far.

I am going back reading the thread to find some good movies to watch.

Frist movie was the old classic Clue. Oh Evette...you can clean my house any day.

I had not seen it in forever.

I thought it held up really well.

"I am going home to sleep with my wife" Mr Green in the lobby with the revolver

Is Lilyhammer any good? Thinking about giving it a shot.
I've enjoyed the first few episodes of season 1 and will continue.
Finished the second season last night. Far too short.
3 episodes in but I'm not loving it so far. I'm having trouble buying Little Steven as this badass mob guy. I'll give it another episode or two before I eject.
I know he's basically playing the same character he did on the Soprano's, but we only got him in small doses there. In Lilyhammer he's basically in ever scene and I just think he's over the top and I don't buy him as this mob tough guy. Probably just me. I'll give it some more viewings this weekend.

Carlos the Jackal

Acting is superb and this is a 3 episode event with each one of them roughly 1:45 in length so this is not just an afternoon, you might have to watch this over a week. It was made in 2010 by acclaimed French director Olivier Assayas and it's tough material because Carlos is a terrorist who murdered and killed a lot of people over about 2 decades. I think you will find it fascinating and considering there is a lot of "Meh" on Netflix I am trying to dig deep to find some title you all might not even know are on there.

I used to rip Netflix quite a bit 3-4 years ago but now there seems to be a lot more programming and also there is a strong platform here for independent movies to find their audience. I have a whole bunch of films I am sifting thru before I post 'em up in here but i am finding a lot of movies over say the last 5-8 years that I somehow missed or were never released in my area. I used to be able to catch everything in SoCal and got spoiled.

I think the first 3-5 minutes of Carlos will get your attention, it is set in early mid 70s to start and they do an excellent job with Euro cars during that time period, the clothes, the look, they did a great job on what I imagine was a limited budget.
:sehorn:I love this kind of stuff.

Netflix DVDs cancelled

Netflix streaming cancelled

:bye:
Be sure to keep us updated.
Sure. I cancelled because this site is absolutely :moneybag: Has seemingly everything, even new TV episodes that aired only a day or 2 prior, and its FREE. YWIA.

I will certainly still check out this thread for recommendations though.
You still using this site KP? Still digging it?
Yep. No problems with it whatsoever, you just have to realize there is no new programs you need to d/l to watch on there like you may be prompted, "X" out of the ads that pop up at first, and watch away. This week I watched Wreck It Ralph, The Shining, Taken 2, and Lawless like it was N'flix

New movies like WWZ and This is The End are already on there, but crappy/bootleg quality. I'll wait till around DVD release for those.
This site is awesome. Thanks for the heads up.
Scanned the thread since this post, but didn't see it mentioned again...

Is this site now for all intents and purposes dead, at least as far as movies are concerned? Unless I'm missing something, the setup for all the movies is completely different and you can't stream anything remotely new.

This has probably been mentioned, but I watched the documentary A Band Called Death and loved it. I would highly recommend to music fans (especially rock/punk), but think it's highly accessible to most.

Two episodes in and I'm liking The Fall. Does it get better or stay consistent from here on?
I thought The Fall was great. The way the stalking is portrayed gave me chills to think this is what it must be like in real life. Absolutely creepy and unnerving. Gillian Anderson is fantastic in her role. To answer your question, the tension ratchets up a bit as the series unfolds but is always kept within a reasonable level of reality. I'll try not to give anything away but will say the final episode of this season ends at an interesting place.

Cool...thx!

It has a little bit of a season one of The Killing vibe to me. That show was impossible to watch towards the end of that season. I'm glad it doesn't fall off as it goes along.

The Apartment(1961)

Near the top of my guy films is this one. If you like Mad Men then take a look at a film shot in the same period they are trying to portray now. This is probably the best film you'll ever see on Netflix. It's an era that doesn't exist any more. Fred McMurray in perhaps his best role, Jack Lemmon outstanding and Shirley McClain you just want to do bad things to her in that elevator outfit, she is gorgeous in this movie. I promise you'll love this movie, well worth your time if you by chance have never seen it.

i loved this show. it is a fantastic premise for a series. anderson is a fine actress in a plum role and knows how to make it work. i am looking forward to S2.

Meh.
Pretty solid list, and helps make up a little bit for all they dropped.

Not that I care too much about the movie selection. About 1 out of every 20 things I watch on Netflix is a movie.

Heckler

Decent documentary on heckling and critics. Worth a watch.

Doug Stanhope: Beer Hall Putsch

Fascinating and very dark. Not always funny, but as a performance piece it's well worth seeing.

just watched "Bronson" with tom hardy. directed by the same guy that did the ryan gosling trilogy, jan bran redfern or whatever. this movie is just terrific for about 80 minutes before it runs out of steam. but oh! for those 80 minutes! it is glorious, giddy and funny. tom hardy is the movie and delivers in a big way. it's "a clockwork orange" meets terry gilliam in a weird way. i lovedlovedloved this mostly for what hardy did with the part but jan nikita koloff directed the hell out of this movie.

Hardy is an incorrigible joy in this. One of the movies that makes me a big fan of his, even though he has done much better since.

I find it funny that all of these "comics" who make their money making fun of situations and people have such a hard time dealing with critics. After watching this, it's hard to come away thinking anything other than all of these comics are pretty pathetic.

I enjoyed Jack Reacher. Better than expected.
Agree. It was kind of an old fashioned action movie

I enjoyed Jack Reacher. Better than expected.
Would've been better with anyone other than Tom Cruise. Literally anyone. Andy **** would've made it better.
Cruise wasn't terrible in the role if you can get past the fact that he was physically wrong for the character of Reacher. I agree the movie was better than expected. It was an old fashioned action film that was driven more by character than effects.

I'm not familiar with the character of Reacher so it was easy for me to get past that he was wrong for it.

The blonde was freaking hot too.

Agreed on all points.

I might be exaggerating a bit, but I would have liked the movie a lot more with a different lead.

I realize this thread is about Netflix streaming movies and rating them, but I feel like I need to pass along a review of a product that has completely changed the way I watch Netflix. I have been a Netflix subscriber for about 10 years. I couldn't believe it has actually been that long, but when I thought back to where I was living when I started with Netflix.......10 years.

Anywho, when I first joined I was strictly 3 discs in the mail. As I evolved as a user, and got my first Blu-Ray player, I got more and more into streaming. I had a Samsung BD-P1600, which was fine, but I never really liked the Netflix app that came with it. At any given time, there are roughly 250-300 movies in my queue, and the Netflix interface would show my queue in a horizontal line, and to navigate to a specific movie or show, I would have to move one movie at a time in either direction. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but let me assure you, when you have a large queue, this can be quite frustrating and time consuming.

Fast forward to recently. I decided that I wanted to get a new Blu-Ray player, and when doing so, I wanted to see if there were different Netflix interfaces out there. What I landed on was the Panasonic BDT230. This thing is off the chain. First and foremost, it has a Search function. So, when I go to Netflix, all I have to do is start typing what I want to see, and it automatically populates a list where I can scroll over and quickly choose what I want. Secondly, it's set up like the Netflix homepage, where it shows different genres in rows, and you can quickly scroll between them. After being a customer for 10 years, it literally redefined my usage the first night I had it. I added around 30-40 movies that I had no idea were on streaming, but it pulled them up due to my tastes. If you're in the market for a new Blu-Ray player/Netflix streamer, this is a good one.

*Note - I am not affiliated with Panasonic or Netflix in any way. I just wanted to pass along a great product that I found.

I'm pretty sure this is just the new version of the Netflix app which is available on just about every device out there that's come out even semi-recently.

Also, across almost 10 different devices I've never used any version of Netflix that didn't include a search option.

Cool on you for passing it along, but I think this just has more to do with you previously owning a super old out of date blu-ray player than anything revolutionary to most folks.

Could be. While researching, it seemed that everything else out there was like my old Samsung exccept for this one, but I could be wrong. Anywho, it's the bees knees.
