Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (9 Viewers)

Does it stop? We're not going to watch with our 6yo, for that and it generally feels a little old for he thematically.
I'm watching it with my 13 year old so not even noticing language.  In my parenting experience, by the time they are 11/12 or so, language is no longer an issue.  He'll never swear around me, but hears it all at school and playing sports.

There's one scene in LiS where my son thought there was an f-bomb, so we turned on subtitles and rewound.  The character said "fu ..."

It's probably too intense a show for a 6 year old. My son at 6 would not have liked this show. Perfect for a 13 year old imo.

Thanks. We're definitely going in with the 10yo.

Wife and I are on Better Call Saul season 3 on Netflix Instant.  I know I'm way late to the party but that is one series I don't see mentioned in here very often.  Not Breaking Bad good, but very very good.  The backstory of Mike and the cartel stuff is fascinating to me, and Odenkirk is amazing at being a complete #### and yet somehow making me root for him.
Great show. To be fair, nothing in the world is Breaking Bad good.

Boooo. My son is 8 and has a good sense of what's too much for him. He's a bit of a shy one. I'd hate to have him miss out since that kid literally lives in my 'hood.

25%. Bojack doesn't seem bad, it just doesn't resonate with me for whatever reason.

Master of None is just straight-up garbage. And I gave it 3 episodes, and it seemed like a C+ film school project.
Wow.  I watched each season in one sitting.  Thought it was great.

Finished my second time through it last night. So good. Some of the episodes had me checking the clock thinking I had fast forwarded by mistake. They're so engrossing 45 minutes feel like 15. I started BCSaul after the first time and didn't feel it. I'm not normal. I haven't seen a full episode, but I'm going in fresh off BB the 2nd time and expecting to love it. In fact, right now.

Wrapped up Wild Wild Country at lunch today.  Highly recommended.  I did a little internet research afterwards, and it appears the documentary wasn't always accurate in the "facts" but that probably goes with the territory.

I'd love to have a sit down with the lawyer guy just so I could punch him in the throat.

Watching "What the Health" and am buying it hook, line, and sinker. Am I crazy?

I also watched "Forks over Knives" a few years ago but didn't make any dietary changes.

I missed The Bridge and Bron/Broen (the original), so The Tunnel is fresh to me. I think I have a thing for Asperger's chicks because I love this character. I enjoyed the first season until the very final scene when it copied a worn out device. I'm enjoying season 2. Bosch is just boring for me in season 4. Better Call Saul isn't bad tv.

My 9 year old really liked it and he is very shy to the point where if I'm watching any show and someone says crap or ### he will run and tell my wife I'm watching an inappropriate show. Then my wife comes running in thinking I have hardcore porn on when its only an episode of friends or something. When my son heard the cursewords in LiS he embarrassingly looked over waiting for me or my wife to say something.

Will Robinson lives in your hood?

With that said we have been having fun watching shows together as a family.

Any recommendations across any of the streaming sites?

We did

lost in space

Lemony Snickets

Just add magic (amazon)

Stranger things

Probably missing 1 or 3 more.

Any other recommendations?

my kid likes Top Gear UK even if they are a little off-color from time to time. he's also been enjoying MasterChef Junior and that's streaming on Hulu. There's also this new show on Amazon called something like The Dangerous Book for Boys (Bryan Cranston produced it) that could be a hit with kids. I'd watch BattleBots in a heartbeat again with my boy if we could find it. He also really likes American Ninja Warrior and the Netflix knockoff, Ultimate BeastMaster.

Right on my block. His folks are terrific, interesting people too (they're trained acrobats and do this circus thing across the city that donates to the city parks). Max goes my son's school. We were at dinner a few weeks back at a neighborhood favorite and the family was out. My boy sees Max playing some barroom shuffleboard game and wanders over. Max sees my boy and they team up to play some others. It was very sweet but in keeping in character for his family. We're  leaving before they did and my boy is getting his coat on with a big smile on his face. He mentions that Max was going to be on TV and we looked it up later. It was for LiS.

Ha!

That's pretty cool. The kid did a good job.

The book one seems interesting...let me look into that one

Rico's wife from six feet under!

I assume this is basically like a family sitcom?

I was looking for something with a little more....adventure?

I'll see if this one clicks though
My 11 and 9 year old love it. It touches on a lot of important subjects (immigration, homosexuality, aging, family) without clubbing the viewer over the head. The writers know when to back off and drop in a joke...really good timing.

This isn't a Full House type that we grew up on. It tackles real issues with real emotions. I watched a few episodes by myself before bringing in the family...give it a try. Its also 25 minutes,  so it's really easy to fit in an episode or two before bed.

I'll second you brohan, loved Wind River but that's why we have this thread, isn't it?

I stumbled across Our World War this weekend and thought it was pretty good. Only 3 episodes detailing the stories of 3 British WWI veterans in their own words. They tell the story and at the end of the episode they either have the verteran imself or read his letters explaining a little bit about the episode. Pretty well done by the BBC except for the hoky running scenes (watch it and you'll know what i mean). Think of it like a poor mans Band of Brothers for WWI. Wish there were more episodes but I suspect they ran out veterans and funding.
Just watched Wind River. Count me in as someone who thought it was really good.

New Chef’s Table season is meh save for one episode which might be the best of the series. It’s the one featuring Jordi Roca who makes the weirdest #### I’ve ever seen but it’s still fascinating.

If you thought Chefs Table was pretty pretentious before, this guy   has a dessert dish that is dirt, as in literally made with dirt, at a three Michelin star restaurant.

Anyone try Absentia on amazon prime yet?
Here's the thing with Amazon shows for me. They import a lot of shows that I haven't heard of or there is no buzz about. Started "Patriot", for example, and it seemed interesting enough but there's zero chatter about it. Started some UK detective show called "Vincent", because I like Ray Winstone, but who the hell knows if it's any good? Netflix is falling into that trap too.

This is wonderful news.  Looks like Netflix UK and Netflix Canada will get the entire catalog by April 15, Netflix US will have a slower rollout.

Netflix is also trying to commission new material from the Monty Python gang, either as individuals or in groups.  Netflix is having a lot of success commissioning standup comedy shows and developing comedians.
I used to have the entire series in DVD.  Lent it out and never got it back (I forgot who I lent it to).

A few of us were posting about Patriot, not sure if it was here or in the Amazon thread. Love that show.

Absentia is pretty solid.  About half way through the season.

I finally started Atlanta on Hulu, and I can't stop watching. Really funny stuff.
it's a fun, original show. i finished S1 a few weeks back with the gf.

ETA - the actor who plays Paperboy was on NPR's "Fresh Air" the other day. i only heard a few minutes with him but he seems like a good guy.

One of the most beautiful-looking shows, as well. Right down to the series logo.
It's a great show but the storytelling seems to go off the rails the later into the season they get (except for The Jacket, that was awesome)... I really like the show but I think it would be better if they did less one-off weird eps and focused on story arcs more.   I like what they're doing either way, it just feels like they lose focus some.

I hear you. Much like FX's Louie, I think the show is experimental.

So while some episodes lack a linear plot and resolution, I'm still glad I get to watch it.
