Wife and I finished S1 of "The Komensky Method" with Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin and Nancy Travis. My wife liked it more than me but the jokes/set-ups are pretty standard. Douglas needs better writing to be a reliable comedic actor while Arkin elevates even the most banal.

Started "Forever" on AP. Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph play a married couple in a show done by one of the writer/producers of Aziz Ansari's "Master of None". Only two episodes in and I like it. Fred's just good fun. 

Completely agree about komisky and Douglas needing just a little better/funnier stuff to work with. But to be fair, he played the role well and had more funny in him than I was expecting. And of course Arkin.

Eta... I read Fred and immediately thought Savage.

he's a capable actor with good-to-decent timing. think back to "Romancing the Stone", "Wonder Boys" and ""War of the Roses". He even did a halfway decent episode of "Will & Grace". He just needs better material. Guys like Arkin do shows like this in their sleep and manage to be funnier.

now that I think about it- of what I saw, the very short scenes with douglas and gf's son are his funniest. reactions to his acting class are decent too... really, it's his reactions to other people being funny- so like you said, his timing and ability to be the straight guy saying kinda funny things.

i wouldn't have bothered past the first few episodes but the wife did a few LOL's. it was only 8 episodes so I can cope pretty well.

i'm more interested in the conceit of "Forever", honestly,  but i'd prefer not to watch a show about the ennui of married life with my wife.

Pretty sure he was speaking to her, not through her, guy.  Totally normal.

I slogged through the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann while sick on Saturday.  They really stretched this out to cover 8 episodes but I was pretty clueless on the whole case so it was pretty good to me.  The videos of the cadaver sniffing dogs were creepy as hell.  Makes me want to think twice about ever visiting Portugal because that police force is some unholy combination of corrupt and completely incompetent.

GREAT:

Insecure - Fantastic.  A much more 'realistic' and relateable Atlanta for those of us on the west coast.

Terrace House - Not bad for what it is.  The Hawaii season was much better.  Can be boring and alot of the cast has zero personality.

I really like Atlanta. Is Insecure the same style of comedy?

I'm surprised you liked Aloha State. I've seen all the seasons, including the original 2 year first season not on Nexflix, and I almost wish Aloha State was never made. It's redeeming quality is that the panel mercilessly trashed the cast all season long.

yeah the show where people dance around to get to the next dimension and people live in multiple universes went off of the rails when it added a octopus in to the mix why not take that to the bank brohan

Sorry, but The Killing was terrible TV.  lazily meandering, corny, trope driven pablum mixed with grief porn trying to pretend its' something better than a superlong episode of a CSI show.  An absolute insult to the intelligence of its audience.

I think you may have undersold the silly noises and faces they make while octopus-handsing.

I liked the 1st season- I agree it did get lazy in there, but the writing and acting did the job. 2nd season was not good. 3rd season was beyond insulting.

Will double check- thanks.  I thought that's where I only saw 1 season of it.  Hulu has a lot of Fox and FX stuff, so I was surprised I didn't see it there.

Yeah I just finished that episode last night and while the whole concept of the show is out there, I was wondering what made them think that was a good idea?

I’ll stick with it because I loved season 1 and I love the direction of season 2 so far, and I’ll just hope that was just a WTF moment.

This season was chock full 'o lazy writing deus ex machina moments like this. I give them credit for at least coming up with an original and crazy looking one, and one that explained her cool arm "tats".

Eight-part Spanish language (with English subtitles) series about a young girl in a small town who goes missing and the ensuing investigation uncovers various secrets in this small town. Slow burn type stuff with enough twists/turns in the  last episode to make you scratch your head.

Saw Mirage. Spanish language movie (with subtitles).  Stars the professor from the Money Heist. Movie is about a child who gets killed early on and the butterfly effect it creates. Has enough interesting characters and twists and turns to make it worth a watch.

Watched Triple Frontier. Maybe I benefited from lowered expectations, but I thought it was decent. It tried to blend a couple different genres and as a result felt a little uneven, but that attempt also made it interesting, IMO.

yeah I liked it too, definitely predictable and slow...I thought a bit more development on the Bonnie and Clyde side may have made it more compelling, but clearly the objective was to provide the opposing viewpoint.  Woody's character a bit underdeveloped as well.

I see that Short Term 12 is on Amazon Prime.  Absolutely love that make, and would recommend it to people with access.  Has Brie Larsen and Remi Malick in it.
