Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (7 Viewers)

I think this was very much a part of the show.  They talk about the number of facebook group members declining after a while when people start losing interest, but there were always a few main ones that kept it going.  The main woman featured in the show also takes a break, but not for very long.
I'm glad other people had the same reaction.  I watched about half of this on the treadmill, so my viewing was pretty casual and I thought I might be out to lunch on that one.

We watched Serenity today..  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6476140/

Have to say, there are many  dialog moments and actions... BUT..

Stick with it as you'll understand the why when it hits the twist...

I recommend watching it and keep an open mind as the "strange behaviors" will all make sense by the end...

For those that have seen it.. Justice!

The wifey convinced me to give Avatar a second try now that we have Disney+.  It’s actually worse the 2nd time around.  How did this movie become the highest grossing movie and hold the record for so long?!

Need to start something new.  How is Watchmen?
I'm in - full disclosure, big fan of the comic and I liked Zach Snyder's film too...

This is the one I am slow playing while I quetly work my way through the other series on my list. I want to savour it!

I SERIOUSLY dont know why folks aint jumpin' in the aisles for Dolemite. The funniest man in the universe puts his whole heart & soul and still-estimable talents into bringing to life the exploits of his and his brother's childhood hero, nails it at every turn and everybody's all "the origin story was innerestin & Snipes was nice". THIS IS THE BEST TIME I'VE HAD IN FRONT OF A SMALL SCREEN AND THAT INCLUDES PRON!! It ain't mine to take really but i'll still have this black hero movie over 1000 phonyass Black Panthers. If QT had did this y'all'd still be scraping the thrillcrust off yourselves. What's WRONG with you people?!?!
DOLEMITE IS MY NAME!!!! Watched this finally last night.

Best thing Eddie Murphy has ever done...and it’s not that close.

BTW:  Netflix has had an unreal fall/end of 2019 with Dolemite, Marriage Story and Irishman.  A lot better than their Birdbox effort of 2018.

The visuals were spectacular in the theater.

Story is dumb.
I saw it in the theater... The 3d blew me away- iirc it was the first to incorporate "modern" cgi 3d and I'd never seen anything like it. Fully immersive and pretty spectacular world.

But the story...woof.

Seeing it 2d on a small screen would make it just awful.

I missed “Chernobyl” last summer.

Knocked out the 1st 3 last night. Amazing production on this. Very well done.
Best show/mini-series of the year. Well done on all fronts...an ffa is friends with the creator.

Was just reading through the show thread, saw the connection to a FBG. Of course, this place is used to rubbing elbows with excellence.

So many poignant and well constructed shots/scenes in this.

Besides the gut wrenching topic I can’t get past how realistic it looks. How did they make this, where was it filmed. Will have to read up after I finish it up.

The podcast done by show creator/writer is well worth the listen as a means of behind the scenes info both of the show and source material used to create it

Apparently a podcast others found really interesting.

Episode 3 of the crown ‘aberfan’ is one of the best episodes of tv I’ve seen in recent memory
Huh. Thought it was good...but more interesting historically than excellent tv for me. Also the point at which we stopped watching...will probably return at some point, but we lost steam with the story. Oddly though, also the episode where I stopped seeing the actress as fleabag MiL and started seeing her as Elizabeth.

And instead of the queen, we've tapped into Lost in Space s2...even though S1 rubbed me the wrong way (Parker Posey plot device). So obviously don't listen to me.

Eta. 1st ep got to an interesting place to entice me to ep2 at least.

Half way through Living with Yourself....I like the spin they put on this idea. It's been done before but like what they did with it...

Big fan of the wife

Couldn't help but cringe when they started piling on the wrong guy initially.  Sounded like he had some issues, but hard to think the social media pressure didn't have something to do with his suicide.

Also, there was a second pair of hands in the python cat video.  Did they ever find out who else was involved?  They were talking about that being "Manny" but then determined Manny was made up.
Just a quick question, which either they glossed over or never mentioned.  So the main internet detective guy gets a message of who the guy in the videos is.  But who sent that message?  Did the actual killer out himself, or did another person already know?

Good question. Not remembering that detail.  They may have alluded that the killer was sending that info as a sock fb group member.  "Catch me if you can."

I think the deceased might have given him a hand

Phenomenal. Some of the best writing and storytelling on TV in the past decade.
I'll second that.  Took a while to get into it...my wife and I almost stopped watching after the first episode, which we both found just so-so.  The show gets better and better.  The 2nd to last episode is just unbelievable - so many complicated things tied together so well.  It's everything that I hoped and expected the end of Game of Thrones to be, in the sense that it answered all of my questions and then went beyond that.

I was wrong about The Witcher. Once I understood the whole timeline crap (not sure why they did it like that so confusing) I enjoyed the hell out of it. Wish I could watch more episodes now.

Maybe that’s more to it but it hit the right beats for me - especially with the funeral and the phone call home about the devastation. Also thought Colman was just perfect in the episode with how cold she was. You’re right too about not seeing her as the MIL now. She nailed it.

They did a much better job in last half of the season then the first half in defining the timeline. It wasn't until episode 3 before I was sure.

Is it possible for the Robertson's to get through at least one minute without a catastrophe?

Season 1 should have been in my wheelhouse but I could never fully get into it.  Giving S2 a shot now.

The production quality of this show is really good.

Bolded is probably why they did it that way exactly. Leaves you wanting more, making sure you are in for S2.

Pretty smart, really

ETA: I've heard exactly the same sentiment from a bunch of others (and felt it myself), so it's not something that just 'happened'...

Watched "Dolemite Is My Name" last night. It was good, light and funny in parts. It's a perfect fit for Netflix release with the HBO movie of the month quality to it. This, like the SNL appearance, feels like a referendum on Eddie himself in a way. He's terrific even if the material isn't worthy of his talents. He holds it all together for the audience so you can just sit back and enjoy.

Don't remember seeing much about this one. We watched Between after the stress of hosting a bunch of people for Xmas. It's partly a modern day take on the Lord of the Flies. There's really nothing outstanding about it . . . the script, the acting, the production, the direction are all pretty average. And the story is a bit of a mess and at times all over the place. But it was the perfect mindless entertainment for kicking back during some bad weather while taking some time off at the end of the year. And there are only 12 episodes, so it wasn't a lifelong commitment.

Enjoyed this as well.  Didn't think it was Golden Globe caliber, but don't have a problem with the nomination.

Murphy has been underappreciated by the critics for quite some time IMHO.
