Once Upon a Time in the West

Watched last night for the first time. I'm not sure how I've never seen this flick before but I must say it is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Amazing cinematography and acting. It is long and some scenes could have definitely been edited down- there is a lot of eyeball closeups but they are mesmerizing. 

Bronson, Fonda and Robards are all amazing.

I found another Sergio Leone that I have not seen that I will take in sometime today, My Name is Nobody. 100 on the 'mater meter.

Except there were 8 episodes in my version. :oldunsure:

It's slow and ponderous, but looks good, is well acted and does a decent job with the story and interesting ending/setup for S2 (I read it was supposed to be in production already, but who knows w C19).

Some quibbles

There are so few of those robodogs, they don't really scare me. Probably a budget thing. Like TWD, these things make a lot of noise, so a ninja stealth mode that keeps happening is a stretch (although they do have range). And speaking of their range...do they have in infinite amount of bullets? I didn't see them carrying backpacks. It's also not clear how these things find their prey...but I guess I'm ok with that.

Blind girl's observations- do you hear/feel that?- are dismissed so frequently, even the explanation by mom (previous hallucinatory episodes) doesn't hold up. She can seemingly control one of them and there's very little interest in how or why. If I'm there...that would be my only interest, and I wouldn't let her teenage girl whine out of explaining it completely.

As has been mentioned, TD season three is also really good. 
 

I’d toss in The Leftovers for drama. 
 

I’m currently enjoying Dispatches from Elsewhere on AMC.

They were on a basketball court/gym and with Gabriel Byrne his wife and the blind girl and something major happened. I’ll receheck my service.

Without reading yours the thing that drives me nuts is they just walk around in daylight in the middle of the street and the creatures are really bad shots.

I do think they build tension well and I was legit getting anxious in multiple scenes. The build up in the 1st episode was best part of the series for sure.

I think Villasenor has the stuff to be one of those "fill a big room" comedians that people actively seek out.  Not Kevin Hart / Dane Cook / Dice Clay size rooms, but enough to be the next new thing.

The team continues tp struggle. The series focuses a lot on the reactions of the working class fanbase and support staff and less so on the players which I think is unique. Highly recommend.

Season 2 on Netflix. FWIW my wife is not a soccer fan and was engrossed in this and the first season. Some great characters in this one, particularly on the ownership side.

 
I just got through watching "Operation Odessa" about the deal the Columbian drug cartel was trying to make to buy a Russian sub.  Bloody nuts.

Her main problem is that she's a workaholic and puts out on average more than one special per 12 months which is crazy turnaround on new material. I think she's naturally hilarious but her material is getting worse because it's not getting as much time and she tours constantly (and now also squeezes in multiple TV shows and movies). It's working for her though as she's a millionaire now which isn't common for a standup.

We've seen her live twice in Boston, which is a hotbed of people who like her because she went to college here so is kind of treated as a "local", the energy at the sets was crazy both times but her material was a lot better 4-5 years ago than the one we saw more recently.

We started this the other night. Decent start, but we were both tired so stopped midway through ep1. The art direction is an interesting mix of 1950s meets 2020.

Gator (the sequel to above) mater meter hated it and I can understand why. Burt's directorial debut. Some scenes drag on ridiculously. However, Jerry Reed's Bama McCall steals every scene (sorry Burt). And the huge guy driving around with his head sticking out of the sun roof is worth a bit of the price of admission.

Thanks to this post I watched Gator this morning. I think for the first time since we saw it in the theater in my high school years.

“Mr Greenfield works for a ladies hygiene spray. I believe it’s called Sprunt.” 

 
I'm really liking Amazon's Zero Zero Zero. The cinematography is great. Great action scenes and the locations are amazing. I can't imagine how much this show cost to make. If you like Narcos you might like this. 3 episodes in and the plot can go either way, but it's great to look at.

 
On Amazon, I watched a movie called “Love, Kennedy”, its not just based on a true story, but is actually a true story, very little is made up according to the director, just a few things to tie a scene together.    It’s a religious theme movie, I’m not a real religious person, but I enjoyed the movie and Kennedy’s life story.  Her parents were on the set during the making of the movie, they filmed a lot of scenes in the actual home of the family.

We're though 3.

It's like the movie Slackers (Linkletter) as twighlight zone episodes. The eps feel a little long for each story, but so far the stories are interesting- even if they each seem to end in a twighlight zone punch line. Hoping for more that ties this all together beyond following a smaller character from the previous episode.

Eta... And the music/score- it's nice. I can't place it, but really think it's stolen or heavily lifted from somewhere.

I also hope the stories come together in the final episode...I'm still mostly in for the atmosphere, but I also want to eventually wrap with a fully formed world.

The music, especially the opening theme, remind me of Ink, a tiny independence movie where the director made all of the music. Perhaps he was inspired by Philip Glass, so now I'm actually hearing the original
